Chapter 6 - TEOT 6

She broke the silence, "We need to talk. And yeah, it's about us. I admit, I'm a jealous person. When I'm with you, the thought of someone else pulling your attention away from me kills me a little from inside each time. I just can't tolerate someone getting close to you. I can't share you with anyone else. Then this happened… Maybe it's better if we go our separate ways. I can't be your second option. Our relationship is toxic for my heart and now, we have to drift apart. It hurts me to say goodbye. I didn't intend to end it this way. I was once here for our love to stay. I appreciate your efforts in trying to protect our love. There was never a happy ending for us, and I'm leaving for the best. I'm ready to move on. I want to let you go. But I don't want to stop thinking about you. I'm afraid I won't miss you anymore. I hope you find someone better and stronger," she poured out her heart.

He stared blankly at her, not knowing if she really meant those words.

Pausing to catch her breathe, she threw an invitation card across the table. "Be our special guest," she wiped her tears. "Happy tears," she giggled.

He reached out for the card, and glanced at her before unfolding it.

"Zoey–"

"Don't say it. I won't change my mind. You promised to be there for me at my happiest moments, right? You said you'd kiss away my sad tears. You always wanted to see me smile. You wished the best for me. You promised to always respect my decisions. Why now?"

"Don't you see it? You're just doing this to get over me. You want me to be a part of your past by moving on with someone else–"

"He's not someone else."

"Okay. Then who is he?"

"Who is she? Someone from you past, right?"

"There's a difference. Besides, I don't love her–"

"And I fucking love him," she slammed the table with her hands, making people turn around to their direction.

"Stop creating a scene, Zoey. Let's sort things out maturely."

"There's nothing to sort out. I'm done having this conversation, okay?"

"Tonight, I couldn't convince you enough. But sure, I will honor your invitation. And I bet, you'd regret losing me," he threatened, taking the last gulp of his drink.

She rolled her eyes. "Don't start."

"Don't start what?" he smirked.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You always do this."

"Why are you frightened now? Don't you wish to take back your words? You know, it's never too late."

"I started it, and I will end it. I won't back out. Remember, what really connects us is our unborn child–"

"And when did you realize this all of a sudden? When runaway blondie came back with my child?"

She hated that name.

"I thought we were over this discussion?"

"Trust me, you're making a huge mistake."

"Stop getting it wrong, Adrian. You lost me, not the other way round. Now, the least you should do is to be happy for me."

"Of course, I shouldn't be jealous. You were never mine," he shrugged, refilling his glass.

"And I was never yours. We only imagined a future we never saw," she said, hiding the pain in her voice.

They sat back in their initial silence, drinking away their sorrows.
