"Café au lait," Mateo replied, putting away the menu card, and dismissed the server. He heard Kendall was in Ontario city, and moved his entire family and business over there in search of her. He had lived there for eight months, yet he hadn't found her.
"Here you go, Mr Luca. Enjoy your cup of coffee." The server took a bow and left. He was a regular and one of the respected customers. Their services were the best compared to others in the city. There was a special reservation for him.
He lived a luxurious lifestyle. Women turning him down because of his infertility made him accept his fate, so he lost interest in chasing after women, which made him invest his time and money to grow his business.
His business had grown wide, which made him filthy rich and famous. The Luca family's heir was the question. Because there was no way he was letting another blood run his business.
He took the last sip of his cup of coffee. The server was on her way to deliver when he bumped into her. A hot cup of black coffee slipped out of her hand and spilled on his shirt, which ruined it.
"Have you lost your sight?" his strong palm landed on her face, leaving a burning sensation.
She couldn't hold back the tears in her eyes. "I- I'm sorry, sir."
"Will your apology pay for my shirt? Do you even know the worth?"
"It was a mistake, sir. Please, I'm so–"
He cut in. "Where is the CEO?"
"Her office is on the last floor," she whimpered.
"Y'all should better be sorry, because I'm closing this shop," he threatened, falling deaf ears on their pleas as he left for her office, his bodyguards following behind him.
…
"Come in." A feminine voice responded to his knock. He twisted the knob and pushed the door while his bodyguards stayed out.
"I'm filing a complaint against this place if you guys don't pay for the damage you've cost me today."
"You never changed in these past years, Mateo," she smiled, taking off her glasses. For the first time, their eyes met.
His jaw dropped, "Oh my- Kendall? Wait, you run this coffee shop?"
"The one you want to stop. Well, go ahead."
"No, I'm sorry for everything. I know I fucked up big time then. I don't know where to begin."
"Stop beating around the bush, Matt. Let's say we met by coincidence today. I don't want you back in my life."
"We should keep our past life away from this and start a new one," Mateo begged.
"You say it like it's so easy. Did you consider yourself in my shoes? Please, do me a favour by staying away from me."
"Uh, what about our child?" he asked.
"Our? I only remember when you said 'terminate that pregnancy.' I guess you remember too," she said in a mocking tone.
"We are talking about my blood here!"
"Well, he's in school currently and he's doing fine without his father. Now, leave my office."
"You can't just throw me out. We have a lot to talk about, please," he begged.
"I guess you won't like to be treated like an animal if I call the security on you. So, just leave."
"Alright, I would leave. But I won't give up easily."
"Get out, coward!" she yelled.
He clenched his fists, fuming as he left.
