The air around Selena felt light as she floated in the air preventing her from falling. The continuous spinning in the air made her dizzy and nauseasous but she did not know how to get down. Suddenly the air felt heavy, making her land on the floor on her butt.
She rubbed that area with a sore look on her face. She was about to curse when she remembered the Duke's concerned look after she bumped into him in the garden. "Why am I remembering this all of a sudden?" she questioned as her face reddened . With a sigh, she left the library and went to the garden where she stared reading about Tewkresch and observing its map.
After Selena left the manor, everything became quite and dull. The baron stood gazing at the rose garden that Selena made with blank eyes. He was not focused on the scenery the sun created when its rays touched the rose petals, inviting butterflies to the roses. The air around the baron started to become melancholic when he remembered the first time he met his niece and the last time he saw his little sister. As he stood rooted to the spot, his memories became clearer:
It was a rainy night and the storm was unforgiving to anyone or anything in its way. After completing the day's work ,the baron, Jacob, began to arrange the his things orderly before retiring for the night. As soon he entered, he heard a bang and glass shattering all over the office inviting the rage of the storm in. He took his sword and prepared himself for a battle in case the intruder was a foe.
But before he could charge he heard the sweet voice of his sister who had eloped with another man ten years ago." Jacob, is me, Emily." she stated as she hugged the shocked brother. He wanted to ask her a lot of questions about her whereabouts, her life and the bastard that she eloped with. Staring at her made him disappointed because of her malnourished weight and sick face. His questions turned into a frown when Emily took a little girl of eight from her back and laid her on the couch in the room. " Brother, I know you have a lot of questions but I can't answer them at least not now. I am pleading with you take care of my Selena for me. They want her but I won't give her to them so please hide her." she said as she kissed Selena on the head and hugged a brother. " Hide her for me please. I love you." she said as tears started to flow from eyes. But the baron could not utter a word and could only watch his sister leave with a forlorn face. A wrenched smile formed on his lips when he realized that he watched his sister leave again, unable to stop her.
He carried the girl into a room and removed her hood to see her red flames that surprised him. Such hair was a curse and from then on, he forced her to wear a bonnet in order to hide her from the world.
A sigh escaped Jacob's lips as he turned to enter the house unable to bear those memories.
Selena sat on the swing in the garden reading the books she picked from the library. She suddenly remembered what happened in the library making her close her eyes to breath nature's air and focus on the sounds of the birds humming on the tree. She began to humm a tune along with the birds. She opened her eyes again determined to perform the spell she saw in the book she was reading. She knelt on the ground and placed her hands on the soft grass mixed with mud. She took a deep breath as she chanted a spell to make a flower grow. She chanted again when she felt nothing. She opened one of her eye, observing the ground but nothing appeared. She pouted as she sat on the grass with her hand on her head groaning in frustration.
" Mistress!" she heard a distant voice call making her raise her head to see Maria running her way with full speed. Maria's face looked flushed and out of breath. " Take your time and breath,Maria. Why were you running?" Selena asked caressing her hair. Maria just blushed and stummed, " The.. Duke.... ordered for your wedding dress today .... ummm..so the tailors are here waiting for ....you." she ended with her blush deeping. "Is that so? Go back and order tea for them. I shall be there soon." Selena said as she sat on the swing. Maria bowed her head and left. A scheming smirk formed on her lips as she started to put her plan into action.'I guess my stay here will come to an end in a week.' she thought as she swung herself on the swing.
The tailors began to complain after sitting there for more than thirty minutes. " Where is the mistress." one asked with visible anger on his face. " Please bear with it. She would be here soon." Maria said as she bowed her head. " We have been hearing this crappy excuse for more than thirty minutes." another said as he stood up. "Well as we wait maybe we can enjoy some meal. This tea is making me lose my taste buds." another said as she stood up and neared Maria who started walking backwards in fear. " Please ...be..be patient." she repeated again annoying the vampire. " Yes we will so how about a meal or don't tell me a maid such as yourself is refusing to give me what I want." she said as he cornered Maria. Maria looked at the other vampires who didn't even mind what their comrade was doing. She closed her eyes shut when she saw her bear her teeth about to bite her. Suddenly the door opened and a cold voice said, " You'd better leave her alone if you know what is best for you." everyone turned to see a petite woman with alluring sea blue eyes an flaming red hair with gold lining that shone in the sun. Their eyes widened in astonishment. She walked to Maria and pushed the vampire off her. " I like this one so stay away." she said making the vampire angry. " Who the hell do you think you are?" the vampire replied as she bared her fangs. A chuckle was heard as she neared her, " The Duchess of Tewkresch." she said as her blue eyes seemed to glow.
