Chereads / GEED; LEGEND OF THE MAGI / Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 1: TEN MILLENIA LATER

Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 1: TEN MILLENIA LATER

Time passed and though the power of the Crystal had maintained, the powerful, destructive force known as magic had totally diminished.

Somewhere in Phoenicia, a young boy called Geed lived under the care of a man called Romanus. Geed was twelve years of age but in a way, he could not understand why the people of Phoenicia all tried to stay away from him. He knew the story of the Magi and cherished it but even the Royal Family showed some spite towards him.

Ten millennia had already passed since the sealing of Lord Darkmanner and the day of the Five Point Star Constellation had arrived. A millennial fair was to be held that night and this excited Geed very much. That morning, Geed headed to town with Romanus to hear the Royal Proclamation. It was Geed's thirteenth birthday and according to the King's Chancellor, Lord Kane, it was the Princess' twelfth birthday. Lord Kane reminded the people about the significance of that night. Geed noticed the people staring and whispering around him. He noticed Lord Kane giving him a cold stare. He didn't understand why but that stare sent chills running up and down his spine.

As they walked home, Romanus noticed that Geed was very silent.

"What's wrong Geed? Aren't you excited about the fair?" he asked.

"Romanus, why do the people stare at me with cold eyes? I feel they know something about me that I don't" Geed said curiously.

"Nonsense Geed, I've always told you that you are very special" Romanus responded.

"In what way?" Geed asked.

"You are a child of the Five Point Star. You've seen the mark of the star on your right shoulder. That makes you a potential vessel of the spirits. It makes you a magician" Romanus responded.

"That's impossible. According to the Ancient Chronicles of the Magi, magic ceased to exist long ago" Geed said in doubt.

"Magic never ceases Geed. Good magic lives on. The Magic Of The Gems in the Four Sacred Temples sustain this world. They are the most powerful magic. This power lives on in you and in a few chosen. That is why you are feared. The people believe that you are a potential calamity" Romanus lectured.

"And you, what do you believe?" Geed asked.

"I believe that you are destined to restore balance to the world and vanquish the real calamity but enough questions for today young man" Romanus said with a laugh.

"I'll be meeting Canine today. He sent me a message, it sounded urgent" Geed told Romanus as they entered the house.

"I have great respect for your Fire Hound friend. He has great wisdom. He can teach you a lot but be careful, if you are caught associating yourself with such a deep magical creature, you could be killed…or worse" Romanus warned.

At Sunset, Geed hurried towards the Gates Of Phoenicia. He hid under the shadow of the Gates to avoid being spotted by the sentries. As the sun set, Geed caught sight of a fiery wolf-like creature running with lightning speed towards the Gates. The Fire-Hound, Canine stopped when he arrived where Geed was hidden.

"How has your elemental training been going?" Canine asked.

"Romanus teaches me everything I need to know but he still keeps the Five-Point Star a secret. I'm still strong with fire" Geed answered.

"That's good to hear. You will be needing your powers this night. The wind brings disturbing news from the North. As we speak, there is a plan to assassinate the Royal Family, danger approaches Phoenicia…and you too Geed" Canine warned.

"Who is responsible for such a terrible plan?!" Geed exclaimed.

Canine paused momentarily before answering.

"I fear it is the King's own Chancellor, Lord Kane. Like you, the Princess possesses a pure elemental spirit which Kane seeks to destroy" Canine answered. "What do you think we should do Geed?" Canine asked.

"We'll save the Royal Family, then save Phoenicia!" Geed responded.
