Covering her nose with a piece of clothing, Lipton squatted down in front of the bodies. For a moment, her eyes scrutinized them without taking any action.
Her gloves stretched forward to check one of the victim's eyes. She pulled the eyelid apart to come face-to-face with a dead eye.
When she did the same to its other eye, her brows furrowed the slightest, as a thoughtful look crossed her face.
"Did these two die on the same spot?" Lipton's eyes rose to the head of the town.
Briggs looked at the dead bodies as if to confirm for himself before saying, "No. This one," he said, pointing at the first body she examined. "was found some distance away from here."
"How far away?" Lipton stared pensively at the bodies.
"A mile."
"That's far enough." She muttered to herself.
Despite not being questioned further, Briggs chimed, "It would have been a hassle to work down there. Ralph insisted, we moved the body here so you wouldn't have to walk that far."
