For one who was about losing a 4 billion contract, even the elevator seemed to move slowly.
James paced around impatiently inside the machine holding tightly onto his briefcase and only wished he could appear on the last floor. weird thoughts evaded his mind and he wondered what actually must have gone wrong.
"I have to meet Mr Judy and sort out this misunderstanding. He can't just back out without any formal reason." he muttered looking at himself through the elevator mirror.
Bringing out his cellphone, he called Old Luke - his employee who had phoned earlier.
"prepare the car, we're leaving for Mr Judy's house soon. we have to convince him" James ordered the old man and switched off his phone.
Exiting the elevator, he almost bumped into Claire who by the look on her face showed there was bad news.
James hated that is expression and his heart almost sank.
what worse things could happen again?
He let out a heavy breathe as he met the frightened lady. "what is it again?"
"Mr Judy left for Thailand this morning." she blurted out.
"what? he's in Thailand? how come nobody told me?" he questioned. The anger in him was high and his voice very harsh.
"Sir...I wanted to tell you but I didn't know he also cancelled the investment." she trembled knowing her job was at stake.
James flapped his jacket and placed his hands on his waist. He glared at her and sighed.
"Ask Luke to prepare the jet instead. We can't lose this deal."
She nodded.
James headed back into the elevator. Now he would be using the highest floor.
"Who's gonna take care of things here?" she asked almost shouting.
"what's the Job of a secretary?" He shrugged and eyed her as the elevator closed.
Claire let out a sigh. She has to work extra hours and prayed things work out smoothly.
She had hope. James had never lost a client.
:::::::::::
At the roof top, Old Luke examined the private jet. He was James's second hand man after Nich and rarely drove him since James preferred driving himself.
For some reasons, he was glad. This was the first time he had the opportunity to be an escort.
Old Luke was an expert in anything with tyres or steering. He could be a driver or pilot depending on the circumstances. He had actually applied for an interview as a driver but James decided to retain him as a main employee since he had no needs for drivers. So practically, he was doing something he loved by chance.
Luckily, the atmosphere was perfect for the journey.
The jet was ready and they zoomed off steadily until it maintained balance.
"we have like 17 hours and some minutes to get to Thailand. Please put on your seat belt and remain calm" Old Luke announced through the microphone smiling as he controlled the plane.
James nodded looking out the window. The view from there was refreshing and made him feel a little relaxed.
He couldn't afford losing losing a multi billionaire investor. Then a thought hit him. "Could he have found out about the 10% loss in business? But then that's not a big deal...oh my goodness! This is driving me nuts" he clinched tightly to his seatbelt.
He stood up immediately and walked towards the refrigerator. Taking out a glass of water, he head towards his seat pulling the center table In front of him.
He gently placed the empty glass on the glass table after gulping the entire content. The files from the briefcase were already arranged hierarchically in heaps. He grunted studying each file as though he was scrutinizing it.
He was feeling cold and decided to put on the warmer. His mind diverted back to the files again. He picked up the contract paper and watched it, repeating every single sentence again and again. Everything seemed correct and in place to him, so why? The contract papers were supposed to be signed that afternoon by both parties but then Judy suddenly changed his mind.
He dropped the file in anger and his cellphone rang. It was Merlin.
"Yes Hon?" He answered caressing his bears.
"You didn't tell me you were traveling?" She answered slightly provoked.
"Na-ah.. it's just an emergency. I would be back in no time."
"Really? But you should have at least called. I'm feeling lonely already." She softened her voice.
"Don't worry, I would be back soon. I promise to make it up to you." He packed the files into the briefcase.
"Promise? Anything I want?"
"Yeah.. anything for my darling. I love you" he smiled sending her a kiss.
"Love you too."
James nodded closing his eyes while stretching his legs on the soft couch. Placing his briefcase on the next seat close to him, he slowly drifted to sleep.
It was going to be a long trip.
