Chapter 37 - A Parting Gift

Alexander pulled his blade out of the man's body and pushed him away to die just before he countered an attack from Harold

Sian rushed forward ignoring the tyrant and everyone else. She reached the dying man and help his head up in her arm while her tears flowed down without stop

"Sian" Nathaniel pronounced weakly raising his hand to cup her chin. "You've grown so much since I met you" he continued speaking slowly but as fast as he could. "You're a good child with a kind heart and I will tell your father all about you. How his little daughter has become a woman"

"Stop please!" She begged, her voice was cracking and her tears now overflowing. "Just stop"

"You and your friends are the future of our race, I've lived my life and I'm happy to die knowing that the younger generation will do better than we have" Nathaniel continued before finally bringing down his hand and enclosing her palm in his.

"You will do better, you must do better" Nathaniel urged

She didn't know what but she could feel this warmth growing inside of her. 'what is he doing?' she questioned herself, "What are you doing? You're killing yourself!" She shouted at him trying to pull away but his grip was firmer than she had thought.

"My death was inevitable, I might as well leave you with something to remember me. Consider this my farewell gift" He said as he hastened the process. Her eyes turned white, the power inside her was overflowing and she felt like she would burst at any minute. He was giving off his power to her. She was afraid yet comforted by his power flowing in her. It was pure and devoid of evil. Her fear was that she might not be able to handle it. She had seen him fight and his power was well above her. Her dying with him here will definitely reduce the chances of them even winning. But she chose to believe in herself and in Nathaniel. He would never do anything that would hurt her and she trusted him.

She felt the flow dwindling every passing minute. She knew it was happening. Life was drifting slowly out Nathaniel but she tried her best not to accept that fact. Finally the flow stopped and her eyes had returned to their normal state. He felt his hand go cold in hers and slowly it slipped off and fell to the hard floor.

His lips was curved up in a smile and his eyes remained motionless staring into the sky as he drew his final breath. Her tears started flowing again and slowly, she covered his eyes with their lids giving him a final kiss before turning only the see Alexander charging her way.

He had ignored her when she zoomed past him even after giving him the perfect opportunity to capture her. He wasn't heartless, and had left her to say her final goodbyes even though he knew well enough that she would be joining him soon. Her death will be for the greater good he had convinced himself.

He fought off the others who did their best to keep up with him even though they didn't stand a chance. He had been enjoying the beat down he gave to the resilient pests who simply didn't know how to give up until he felt a surge in energy. Her energy was growing and with her increase, the little remaining life force in Nathaniel dwindled. He had immediately recognized what was going on and had rushed towards her to stop their connection or kill the Nathaniel once and for all. But with every distance he covered, one of the pests appeared constantly slowing him down and obstructing his movement.

He had finally had enough and had managed to push them all away but it was too late. He could feel the sudden stop in Nathaniel's energy and her energy also had stabilized.

"No!" He screamed still surging forward towards her but she had become faster and had reacted to him even at top speed

Without even thinking twice, Sian raised a wall of ice in front of herself and Nathaniel's corpse. She lifted the man's dead body and leapt out of harm's way just before Alexander broke past the ice wall.

She laid Nathaniel's body down in a battle free area before releasing water balls and ice spikes at the constantly attacking Alexander. Her water ball countered a flame ball that came her way while the spikes went on the offensive.

Creating a dome of fire around himself, Alexander protected himself from the giant ice spikes that she had sent forward. Edmund had intervened and had disabled the flames that encircled him, once again leaving him open to a water wave that Sian had also sent forward. He took the hit and was swept backwards from the girl. But she wasn't done yet. Caught in between the waves now, she suddenly froze the liquid while Warren and Harold descended down on him with punches that broke him through the ice and sent him down into the earth.

Caleb rushed forward with his scythe aiming to deal the finishing blow but Alexander had had enough. A tornado had immediately encircled him blowing the approaching man away alongside everyone around him. The rocks beneath him rose into the air and had gracefully carved themselves into spikes launching forward with speed towards every direction of the place.

Sian rushed forward grabbing Caleb just in time and shielding herself and him with an earth wall. This power was still new to her and she had miscalculated the energy she poured into the wall. The way she had created was a weak one which was already crumbling down from the impact of the spikes.

She had only done the first barrier as a test but she had to stick to things she was good at. Acting immediately, she reinforced the falling wall with ice stabilizing it once more before the spikes could get through.

Thw spikes had stopped coming forth but the tornado hadn't stopped building. Once the attack had gained more momentum and it's destructive potency had gotten to its peak. Alexander sent it forward. Gliding down from the top of the attack while he watched the others simultaneously raise their most powerful defenses against feral wind.

They had all transported to one spot to create one powerful defense instead of doing so individually. It was a good idea and he cursed their quick thinking. Harold and Warren had joined forces to create a gigantic air bubble around them, Edmund raised a firewall with Inferno who had regained very little strength while Sian poured her energy to create an ice dome and an earth wall.

They felt the impact of the attack hit. The earth wall she had constructed had given in and was shattered seconded by her ice dome. Even though the power of the tornado had reduced considerably, the chances of their barrier standing after the attack was not guaranteed. Slowly, the firewall gave in leaving them only at the mercy of the combined effort of warren and Harold who cried out as they poured more energy into the air bubble finally overcoming the tornado but not without taking damage.

The bubble had held off the larger attack and had shattered afterwards but they were all hit by a second strike. A shockwave had sent them all flying backwards and crashing down into the nearest rubble. Alexander had seconded the tornado with another attack and they had been taken unawares.

Caleb was the first to regain himself. He hadn't wasted any energy into the defense and hadn't taken much damage as the others. He rushed forward defending his weakly arising friends from the incoming tyrant.

He dodged a power based attack while doing his best to keep the tyrant from throwing out any more attacks but he was easily outmatched. Alexander was enraged and he did well to take out his anger on Caleb beating the man to a fine pulp before throwing him aside.

Hayley was up. She had been unconscious most of the time and she had to be constantly covered by Warren or Harold everytime the dome they enclosed her in shattered. She picked up her blade and marched forward towards the approaching tyrant. She had only one arm in use and warding him off was even more difficult than it had been before. She did no better than Caleb and she was tossed aside also.

He had totally ignored them not killing them as he had promised. He seemed more focused on one thing and that was getting to Sian.

Edmund was up, and secondly after him Sian also rose from the floor. A smile appeared on Alexander's face once more as he launched forward this time going all out to reach his target.
