Inferno rested his son's head on his lap wiping his dirty face with a piece of fabric that he had torn out from his clothing. His son was the last to fall and he wasn't expecting him to wake anytime soon. The only thing going on in his head right now was prayer. He was sincerely praying to God that his son forgave him. Watching the other people share moments with their loved ones brought back feelings that he had suppressed in the quest for power. His fatherly and human feelings.
Edmund blinked his eyes first making sure he was alive before slowly pulling his upper body. Everybody was fine and Sian was alive. He took a quick look around and just like everyone else who had noticed, the entire forest behind them was gone including the massive building he once lived in. Everything was just gone and so was the mad Tyrant. He finally looked behind him recognizing a face he didn't know if he wanted dead or alive.
Different emotions welled up inside him, hate, love and the urge to forgive his father. He didn't know what to do. He was utterly confused. Inferno had never been there when he needed him, he had been a tool for his father to achieve his selfish goals alongside the mad Tyrant whom he didn't even know if he was alive or dead, he honestly didn't care.
Another feeling in him reminded him that this man was still his father regardless and had helped them to win. Harold's words came ringing back in his head and he just realized that the two of them had similar genes. There was this darkness inside them and it only needed the slightest trigger to fully show itself and he had witnessed it. He didn't blame his father, he was also a pawn after all whose head had been clouded with an obscure sense of justice and didn't know he was being used.
He had gone with his second and third feeling and thrown himself into his father's arms. He could already see the regret and his mental pleading for forgiveness. He didn't need words to tell him that the man was truly sorry for his actions.
Inferno sat completely shocked by his son's actions and wavered for a bit before he wrapped his arms around his son. Tears began rolling again as he thanked the heavens inwardly for answering his prayers. He couldn't be more grateful for anything else. This was his second chance and he was going to do his absolute best to see he didn't mess it up. The world was definitely going to change for them and his only wish had come true. To savour a changed world his son till he drew his last breathe. He leaned in closer to his boy's ear and with his eyes clouded with tears and his voice cracking he said to him, "I love you son, I love you Edmund"
