Chapter 14 - The Basketball went Boom!

Xana and Max were on the same field, the basketball field, while Sean was playing handball and Sam playing soccer.

The sport that first begun was handball.

Since the school was small and students were shared amongst different sports, it was not possible to have seven boys or girls in each team. Therefore, the genders were mixed.

Sean sighed as he ran his eyes over the girl who was the right-winger. She looked like a paper doll that would be blown away by the passing wind.

As he thought, he rubbed his chin and suddenly remembered his friend. ' Maybe she just looked weak but is hiding explosive power in her.' What Deanna did had made him rewrite his opinion on girls. He might not have been there, but the detailed explanations of Max and Sam made him feel like he was even present at the alley when the gangsters were beaten up.

His team got hold of the handball and tried to attack the other team. There was a small group made up of his team and the other trying to snatch the ball.

The paper doll girl was in-between the scuffle.

Sean trained his eyes on her hoping to see a Wonder girl again, but was absolutely disappointed.

The poor girl had been literally blown away by the wind. It wasn't much of a wind though, a player from the other team just zoomed past her and she fell back.

'Guess not everyone could be like Deanna. Heck! Maybe no one could even be like Deanna.'

The handball game ended with 1:2. Sean's team being the former.

Before the next game started, the principal claimed unto the podium and addressed everyone.

"While we were watching the fantastic game of handball, the teachers were done marking the scripts of our students." A teacher came up the stage and passed a piece of paper to him.

He cleared his throat and continued.

"Yes, only the top ten would be picked from the quiz and another ten from the sports competition. Finally, from the twenty, ten most qualified students would be chosen for the scholarship."

He cleared his throat once again to the dissatisfaction of the anxious parents and students. He started to name them noticing this.

"The ten students are: Evelyn Ace, Rachel Queen, Sandy Brook, Peterson Peter, Thomas Daka, Fanny Marcus, Sean Anderson, Maxwell Badger, Samantha Badger and last but never the least, Deanna Page!" he excitedly finished.

All the parents of the qualified students stood up and clapped in glee. The other parents whose children didn't make it turned to the sports field in hope.

Xana and her friends heard their names but they weren't too surprised as their normal scores always was always the top in school.

"Now, let the next game begin. Ping pong!"

The ping pong players were sixteen in total. The first round would be played by two players in each team so as the other two rounds.

Xana sat under an oak tree and watched as her friends came to join her. She observed Sean's features as he walked and sat at her right side.

He had long black hair which also covered his forehead and thin pink lips. He's complexion was tanned as he worked a lot after school for his old mother and little brother.

In general, Sean was very handsome. His green eyes were very beautiful and made him seem dreamy. He was one of the most handsome and intelligent in the school.

This was one of the reasons Tina hated her. It was no secret that Tina had a huge crush on Sean, and seeing the ugly Deanna around him pissed her off. Denis naturally hated Sean as his girlfriend liked him, but, he wasn't allowed to harm him from the orders of Tina. Therefore, he also took it out on Deanna.

Sam and Max were a no-go area as they were the children of the village chief. So they tried hard to shield their friend from bullies but they couldn't be around her all the time giving chances to the bullies.

Max noticed Deanna staring at Sean and pouted.

"Ya! Dean! I already said I liked you but here you are fawning over another guy." he expressed in dissatisfaction. Sam gasped and knocked his head while Sean gave a non-noticeable smile and shook his head at Max.

"You fool! Dean would never fall for you. You get it?!" Sam crushed his hopes all at once.

Max grimaced. "But why is that? Look at my dreamy blue eyes and soft brown hair! Why can't she like me?" he sulked.

Xana had to admit, Max was actually very handsome though he was quite foolish around his friends. He was the number one school hunk.

Xana laughed. "No Max, what about Rachel, she's pretty and she's obviously liked you for so long."

"Whatever, all the girls have always liked me."

Sam rolled her eyes. 'How narcissistic.'

"These guys are amateurish." Xana commented as they relaxed and watched the ping pong players.

Sean giggled. "You can do it better? I remember when you weren't good in something as easy as that but here you are giving comments."

Xana smiled bitterly. 'This Deanna of a girl, did she have to leave so many loopholes. She wasn't even good in one sport!'

The first round was over and the second round began.

They stood up from the tree and went to the ice cream stand. After taking their orders, the ice cream man went inside the truck and began preparing it. Xana was tall enough to see him work and liked the way he smoothly did this and that. 'So experienced.'

The ice cream man served her a chocolate and strawberry icecream with sprinkles and Sean the same.

She laughed with Sean at the coincidence and Max's eyes rolled. As she licked it, the ice cream smeared her cheeks but she didn't notice till she felt Sean's cold fingers wiping them off. He put his fingers in his mouth and licked the ice cream off them.

Xana stood there shocked.

Sam cleared her throat.

Max looked disgusted.

Sean glanced at them all and shrugged. "What, it's just ice cream."

They recovered from their shock and walked back to the field. The ping pong game was over.

"And after that amazing game of ping pong, I will call in the basketball players." the principal said.

"This basketball was donated by Hon. Ronald and it is a great honor for the students to play with it."

All the parents whose children were part of the team cheered loudly.

Sam and Sean cheered their friends as they went to the field.

A coin was tossed in the air to decide who will wield the ball first and it ended up being Xana's team. She smirked at Max on the other side.

Passes and bounces ensued. Soon, the first goal was scored against Xana's team. Her eyes narrowed at Max who scored the goal.

The game resumed with the cheers at the background. Soon, Xana wielded the ball that was passed to her. She bounced it as she dribbled past opponents and quickly made it to the enemy's net.

Max stood in front of her and tried to take the ball but Xana easily dodged him and jumped putting the ball through the net.

"Goal!!" voices shrieked in the background while Max's face was unpleasant.

After a short break, the next round began. Lucas' eyes were trained on Xana as he watched her every movement. They were a bit strange but cool, nevertheless.

One of Xana's teammates was holding the ball.

"Pass it!" another screamed at her. The girl started to panic. Xana noticed that and ran towards the girl. Ten feet away from her, the basketball started to increase in size. No one noticed this but Xana and Lucas.

"F**k! It's gonna blow!" he whispered fiercely.

Xana was three feet away from the girl now and dragged the ball from her throwing it high up into the sky.

Everyone thought why she was doing so but before they could complete their thoughts, a loud sound was heard above. Their eyes followed it to see a huge explosion.

The basketball exploded with bits and pieces falling unto the field.

They all drew sharp breaths. All eyes were trained on the village chief.

Immediately, breaking the tense atmosphere, a fleet of cars drove inside the school compound. An insignia was one of the cars which made the village chief's eyes widen.

"Sir Ronald Hopkins!" he said to the shock of everyone.
