Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 20

Elaine met me mid-way to the café. "Hi, Kyle! Long-time no see," she greeted me excitedly. I handed her the gift I bought for the café. "Wow! Thank you! You're so thoughtful, Kyle. What is it?" She asked me curiously. She tried to shake the gift to check what was inside. Good thing I wrapped it with lots of paper, in case Anna shook it, but I didn't know that they were the same.

"It's a secret but I can promise you that it's not a bomb," I said playfully. The café is not as crowded as Anna said. They only have a few staff all in all, plus some of their friends, well I think they are mostly Elaine's friends.

I looked around but I didn't see Anna or even her boyfriend. It's almost time to start the party but they are still not here. All the lights suddenly turned off and focused on the entrance. They all started to gather around the entrance to see the main stars of the event. They started to clap their hands upon seeing the couple walking in the aisle.

The girl is wearing a white high neck knee length dress with her hair braided in a bun. While the man beside her is also wearing an all-white tuxedo with his chocolate brown hair glimmering under the lights. I can't help to smile bitterly to see the couple happily walking down the aisle like it's their wedding.

I wish I'm the one who was walking beside Anna now with her hand holding my arm while sweetly smiling at each other. They seem to be a perfect couple. When they make a stop near the counter, Anna is anxiously looking around among the crowd. "Try to wave at her," I was startled by Elaine's sudden appearance beside me.

At first, I'm hesitating to do what she said but my body voluntarily moved on its own. I just noticed my hand is already up in the air like an idiot waiting to catch something. I was about to pull down my hand when Anna noticed it and waved her hand happily. I looked around to see if she was waving back to someone behind me but no one was waving at her except me, so those waves from her were for me. I waved back at her and smiled even though I'm not sure if she can see me.

After a few speeches, the guests start to regroup and chat happily while I am standing awkwardly alone at my table when someone nudges my arm. "Hey!" She greeted me. She looks so beautiful in her white dress up close. She's shining like a star with her accessories and the beads on her dress.

"Hi!" The only thing I said. "You looked handsome in your clothes today," she said to me while putting down a plate full of sweet food. "Only for today? I think I'm always handsome every day," I retorted to her playfully.

She playfully sneers at what I said like I was telling a joke, "Yeah, whatever," she rolled her eyes at me before she took a bit of her favorite ice cream cake. "Hey! Eat this with me. I can't eat this all on my own," the plate is full of different cakes, and she also has ice cream next to her. "Are you not scared to be fat with all this sweet?" I pick up the fork she gives me.

"No, I don't care about my figure. All I care about is that I can eat all the food I want," she smiled at me but when she smiled there was a food stain in between her teeth that made me laugh so hard.

"What is it?" She looked at me confusedly. She doesn't have any idea that she has a stain on her teeth. I took my phone and asked her to smile again like how she smiled at me then took a picture. Her face almost drained of its color when she saw what was on her teeth.

"Argh! Kyle Nicholas Smith, how dare you laugh at me?" She exclaimed angrily while I laughed. She stormed out to go to the restroom to clean her teeth, and after a while, she came back with a frown on her face.

"What?" I asked innocently. "Don't talk to me," she takes another bite of the cake left on her plate. While she was eating, I noticed that she has chocolate on the corner of her lips. "Anna," when she turns her face to me, I wipe the chocolate on her lips with the napkin.

"You're such a kid. Please mind your appearance or else I'll laugh again," even though I can't take care of you as your special someone, at least let me take care of you as your friend. When I looked at her face again, I saw a hint of blush on her face. She looked away to hide it from me, "Thanks," she murmurs.

She looks so cute when she blushes. I want to see more of that side of her. "Thank you, Kyle," she started to talk again after she finished all the cakes and ice cream on her plate. "For what?" I asked while sipping on the wine in my hand.

"Thanks for coming today. To be honest, I thought you were not going to attend. When I saw you waving your hands at me, I felt relieved that you came. You made this celebration more fun," I want to put my hand on her head but she's wearing a braid and I don't want to ruin it, so I just placed my hand on her and kissed it gently. "I'm happy to see you too," we just smiled like we didn't see each other for a long time. "Oh, yeah, speaking of see, can I have a look at your phone?" She breaks the silence between us.

"For what?" I confusedly asked her. "I just want to check your phone if you deleted the picture you took a while ago," so she wants to delete the picture with dirt on her teeth. "Oh, you mean this?" I wave my phone in front of her with her picture on it. Her eyes widened upon seeing the picture and trying to grab it in my hand but I managed to put it in the air.

"Hey! Give me that," she cried. I just laugh at her while trying to reach for the phone. Good thing we have a huge height difference now compared to when we were in high school. Before there was only a two- or three-inches gap in our heights but now, I think I'm five or six inches taller than her.
