Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Samuel's Pov:

I get up at 5 am and begin preparing for the journey to Jackilson. It's only a 3-hour trip but I don't know how many days this hunt may take. I pack a bag with some food, bullets, enchanted water, a few extra knives, and some wooden stakes. I have to be prepared for anything. Especially for my brother's first hunt. I make sure I have my favorite knife in my pocket, a bow across my chest, and a hidden gun. I walk quietly into the shared room and shake Noah awake. "We gotta go."

He gets up and throws on his clothes I hand him the backpack. He puts it on and follows me out the front door. We talk about lots of stuff as we walk and it makes time fly. It's nice talking to someone while traveling.

I check my watch and it's a quarter to 8. "We are almost there," I say. I hear Noah sigh with relief. He laughs, "Thank goodness, my feet are starting to get tired." I shake my head and laugh, "You better get used to that feeling we are going to walk around all day." "Welp, this is the end of me." He makes an exaggerated dying sound. I know we should be sad about fathers death but it's normal for people to die often. You always have to be prepared for the worse.

We arrive in town. I get out the paper with the details. Sandra Miller. "Noah, you go into the convenience store and ask about a Sandra Miller. I'm going to ask in the tavern." Noah nods and heads off to the convenience store. I walk into the door of the tavern and I get strange looks from the few locals that were drinking this early in the morning. I walk up to the bar and ask the bartender, "Do you know a Sandra Miller?" The man leans on the bar, "Why're you asking?" He glares at me.

I pull out my hunter's license. "I got hired for a job." I show him the license. "Ooo you're a tough guy eh?" He's mocking me. Jeez. "Sir, I'm just trying to do my job. Please point me to Sandra Millers' residence." He looks like he's getting angry. "Don't get mouthy with me boy."

I turn and walk out of the tavern. "HEY!" I hear the man yell. He must've been drinking. He was crazy. I quickly walk to the convenience store to meet up with Noah. I get to the store as he walks out. "Sandra Miller leaves on East Lane. It's a couple of blocks down."

"Glad you could get it. The bartender was clearly drunk and wouldn't tell me anything." Noah bursts out laughing. I roll my eyes at him. "C'mon now, we still have a job to do." He stops laughing and follows me down to East Lane.

I walk up to the address and knock on the door. A curly redhead opens the door. "Sandra Miller?" She smiles, "Yes, yes. Come in come in." She welcomes us into her home. "Thank you boys for coming all the way here to help." She sits down on her couch and motions for us to sit in the chairs across the room from her. Noah and I sit down.

"How long have you been having issues with the goblins?" "Oh, it's been a few months now. I thought rabbits were stealing my food until I saw goblin footprints all over my potato patch." I stand up. "Do you mind if we take a look outside?" She shakes her head no, "No, it's alright. Go ahead."

Noah follows me outside to her garden. Man was it huge. "Stay here. Be quiet." Noah nods his head. I walk along the paths taking mental notes about the footprints. I get to a part of the garden where it was absolutely wrecked. This is the work of goblins. I know it.

I walk back to Noah. "This is 100% the work of goblins. They are very protective of their territory. We either kill 'em or run 'em out. Killing is the best option. There are only seven according to the footprints. Aim for the head and shoot a couple of shots. That should do the job." I lead him back into the house.

"Does this town have a library?" Sandra is surprised to see me back in the house. "Yes, there is a small one near the barbershop." "Thank you. We will return before night to deal with your goblin infestation. Let's go, Noah." I walk out the front door with Noah following close behind.

"Why are we going to a library?" He asks as we walk down the road. "I need to do some research on the five demon brothers. Mainly Zenian." We arrive at the door of the library a chime goes off as we walk in. "I have no idea who you are talking about Sam."

A young lady comes up to us. "Do you fellas looking for something specific?" She asks with a cheery voice. "Can you lead us to the hunter's section?" She nods her head yes, and with joy in her step leads us to the hunter section. I thank her and begin looking for the books I need.

Noah sits down and places his head on the table. "Noah, you need to study. Don't think you get a break so soon." I find a book about the demon brothers. I flip to the chapter about Zenian. 'Zenian is the youngest of the five demon brothers. He is also the weaker of the five to our knowledge. Zenian is rarely seen and keeps to himself. But the people who hunt him seldom return. He is pale white in color. He has black rings around his arms, legs, and neck. His face is covered in black freckles. His hair is long and jet-black. It is usually worn in a braid. There is no knowledge of what his eyes look like, his weaknesses, or his whereabouts.'

Mysterious. This is why he's not well known. He doesn't do much like his siblings. The other four are kinda show-offs. I read all the books that even mention him.

"Sam, it's starting to get dark." Time to begin our hunt.
