Chapter 6 - Bullying her

Chapter 6

She freezes on the spot as soon as she pulls the door open, as the angry face of Alexa, Alex's elder sister welcomes her. Seeing the angry look on her face, Wendy's heart sinks into her stomach, and she suddenly feels cold shivers down her spine. It's her first time seeing her since she and Alex have been together. The last time that they got married, she didn't show up. They have only talked over the phone once, and it was a mistake then.

"Go... Good morning, ma'am," She smiles at her awkwardly, as she bows slightly, but she only earns a hard glare from Alexa.

"What is good about the morning? Did my brother bring you here to sleep, or he brought you to help his mom?" Alexa snaps at her, and she bites her bottom lip. For goodness sake, these people have a maid here, so why would they turn her into a maid just because she's here to spend time with them?

"No, ma'am. Alex only asked me to stay here for the main time while he's away. He didn't send me here to be your mom's maid," As much as she wants to scream to her face for this mean attitude of hers, she knows best to be calm and talk to this woman nicely. She better mind her words, since she came to their house.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I was so tired after doing the house chores yesterday, so I overslept this morning. I'll change my cloth and get to work immediately now," She apologizes to Alexa.

"It's nice to finally meet you, ma'am," She bows to her politely.

"It's not nice to meet you. You should mind your behavior here. This is not your husband's house," Alexa snaps at her before she finally turns around and walks away elegantly.

She bites her bottom lip as she walks back into her room and slams the door close angrily. They're just meeting for the first time, so she could've acted nice even if she's not, right?

"It seems like my days here are going to be troubled," She mumbles before she drags herself into the bathroom and strips out of her clothes.

Dragging her feet down the hallway minutes later, she stops on her track when she gets to the staircase, as Alexa's voice welcomes her.

"Mom, why the hell did you let that thing into this house? I thought we agreed that she's never going to step her filthy foot into this house?" Alexa's angry voice echoes in the living room, and she slowly tightens her fingers around the rail of the staircase as she gulps down nothing. What on earth has she done to this family? Why do they hate her this much?

"It's not that I wanted to. Alex insisted that I let her stay with me here until he comes back..."

"You could've said no to him, right? I came here to spend time with you after months of being away, and this is what welcomed me. Gosh! I'm losing it," Hearing Alexa's voice snaps from the living room, she finally climbs down the staircase and walks her way into the living room.

"Good morning, mom..."

"I told you to stop calling me that, didn't I?" Mrs. Thompson snaps at her angrily, as she springs up to her feet.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. Uhm... What should I make for breakfast?" She manages to ask, as she tries so hard to fight back her tears. Although she has lived the recent years of her life alone without her parents, she has been through a lot while growing up alone without her parents, but this pain is what she never experienced in her life. Being hated for no reason wasn't part of the challenges she had to face, at least.

"Make fried egg and bacon," Mrs. Thompson replies to her.

"Make pasta for me," Here she was, thinking that Alexa was not going to ask for anything since she hates her so much, but she was mistaken.

"Alright. I'll get to work now," She says before she turns and walks away into the kitchen.

Staring at the ingredients minutes ago, she sighs briefly as she runs her fingers through her hair. She has always thought that marriage was full of sweetness, she has always dreamt of a marriage where she'll be friends with her husband's family, especially his sister, but turns out that she's not so lucky to get what she has always craved for.

"Do you need help with anything?" She tilts her head back to see their maid standing there while having a sympathetic look on her face.

"No, I'll be fine," She smiles at the maid before she turns her attention away.

"Alright. I'll be available if you need anything," The maid says to her then turns to leave, but she stops and turns to her again.

"My name is Kira," The maid says to her, and she slowly nods her head.

"Wendy," She says to Kira.

"Bye-bye," Kira finally walks out of the kitchen, and she sighs briefly.

After spending almost two hours in the kitchen, she's finally done cooking, and she dishes out the food to Alexa and her mom as they have been waiting for their food for a couple of minutes.

"Where are you going to?" Mrs. Thompson asks when Wendy takes her plate of food and heads to the stairs.

"Uhm... I'm going to eat in my room," she replies to Mrs. Thompson and a scoff tears through Alexa's throat.

"Wow! So you think we're too dirty for you to eat with, huh?" Alexa snaps at her, and she quickly shakes her head. It wasn't her fault that she wanted to eat in her room instead. This is the same thing she was trying to avoid, this bully.

"No, ma'am. I didn't think that. I didn't want to disturb you, that's why," She quickly defends herself, earning a hard glare from Mrs. Thompson. Slowly, she walks over to sit with them in the dining, even if she feels uncomfortable about it.

An awkward silence assumes the air as the only sound that can be heard are the ones coming from the cutleries they're eating with. She keeps peeking glances at the two as she slowly picks on her food.

"Guess who I spoke with today, mom," Alexa suddenly breaks the awkward silence, after she takes a sip from the glass of water on the table.

"Who?" Mrs. Thompson asks.

"It was Zora, Alex's first love," Alexa says, and Mr. Thompson pulls a surprised look.

"Zora? That beautiful and talented young lady. She's smart, elegant, intelligent, and has class. I have always liked her so much. She and Alex were so into each other, and I don't doubt that the spark is still there," Mrs.  Thompson gushes.

"Yeah. It was so good to hear from her after months. I have missed her so much. She was asking about Alex. It seems she still has feelings for my brother," Alexa chuckles softly, and Wendy stops her cutleries abruptly as she stares down at the table. Her heart tightens in pain as tears well up in her eyes, but she fights them back and bites her bottom lip. It's not that she doesn't know that Alexa is just trying to bully and make her feel sad, but she still can't help it.

"That's not bad. Besides, they're perfect for each other. I've always wanted my son to get married to her, but he chose to be with a dumb street urchin instead," Mrs. Thompson spits angrily.

"I'm still here, can you two just stop, huh?" Wendy finally springs up to her feet and slams her hands on the desk angrily...
