Chapter 7
"What have I ever done to you, huh? I've had enough of this. I've had enough of you treating me like a piece of trash, even when I do my best to please you. I have just been here for barely twenty-four hours, and my stay here has been hell. What have I ever done to you?" She snaps angrily as tears stream down her cheeks. Even if she wanted to keep this with her and act like everything is fine, she just couldn't bring herself to do it. For someone bad at hiding how she feels, especially when she's hurt, she couldn't have been able to hide it, right?
"How dare you talk back at my mom. Where're your manners?" Alexa snaps at her, as she springs up to her feet.
"We are just meeting for the first time, and you hate me already. Did I do anything wrong to you? You're a woman like me, how will you feel if someone is treating you in this manner?" She scoffs as more tears stream down her cheeks.
"You have a maid, but since yesterday that I got here, you literally turned me into your maid, and I never complained, because I know that it's what I should do. I'll take anything from you, but not insulting me, and calling me a street urchin. I have a home, your son didn't fucking pick me up from the street," She slams her hands on the table as she sneers at them. She shouldn't be doing this, and she knows that, but does it look like she has an option?
Alexa and her mom stare at her in shock, while having their mouths agape. They weren't expecting the reaction from her.
She wipes the tears from her eyes before she walks out of the dining room.
Her shoes make loud smashing sound on the stairs as she climbs them as fast as her legs can carry her. Walking briskly down the hallway, she pushes her door open and storms in, slamming it behind her afterward. She crashes her back against the door as she bursts into tears. 'Am I the first person to get married? Why am I so unlucky? Why do I have to suffer this fate?' She asks herself as she grabs her hair and pulls it painfully. All she ever wanted was a happy home, but it seems like she's never going to get that.
Her phone suddenly starts ringing on the bed, but she ignores it. Answering a call now is the last thing on her mind.
A few seconds later, the phone starts ringing again, and she finally drags herself from the door and reaches out for the phone. Seeing her husband's name displayed on the screen, she quickly wipes her tears and clears her throat, before she slides the answer button.
"Hey baby," Alex's voice sounds from the other end as soon as she answers the call.
"Hi, honey. How're you doing?" She speaks sweetly as she sits on the edge of the bed.
"I'm fine. Did you sleep well? How's your stay with mom? Is she treating you nice?" He asks her with concern responding in his voice, and she purses her lips.
"Yes, I slept well. My stay here is nice. Your mom is treating me super nice like never before. And guess what? Alexa is here also, and I'm getting along pretty well with her," She lies to him with tears in her eyes. He was just gone for barely forty-eight hours, she couldn't have told him the truth, knowing well that he'll get distracted from his work, right?
"Wow! Alexa didn't tell me she's back in New York," He utters.
"Yeah, I guess she wanted to surprise everyone, but unfortunately, you weren't around," She replies to him.
"It's sad that I wasn't around. I'm missing you here. I can't wait to come back to you, honey," He whines over the phone, and her lips curve into a beautiful smile.
"I'm missing you too. When are you coming back?" She asks, praying silently that he comes back soon and takes her out of the hell she has been in.
"That's going to be a surprise," He replies to her, and she smiles painfully. If only he knows what she's going through here, then he won't spend another day there and come here to get her.
"Alright, I'll be expecting you then," She utters.
"I need to go now. I'll call you later. I love you, babe,"
"I love you too," She replies to him before the call finally drops dead.
All through the day, Wendy has locked herself indoors and refuses to leave her room. Not that either Alexa or her mom cares about her anyway.
Forcing her eyes open after a long sleep, her stomach grumbles as she sits up on the bed. She yawns tiredly as she drags herself from the bed and walks sluggishly into the bathroom.
She collects some water from the tap and washes her face before she walks back into her room to find the screen of her phone on.
She reaches out for the phone and slides the unlock button, as a message from her best friend pops on the screen. 'Hey, darling friend. How're you doing over there? I guess you must be enjoying your husband so well now. Hoping to see you soon. Love you' she smiles and drops her phone on the bed after she reads the message. She wishes she's enjoying her marriage the way her friend thought she would. Because what the heck is this hell she's living in?
The sound of the knock on the door pulls her attention, and she reaches for the door. She pulls it open, and Kira's smile welcomes her.
"Good evening, ma'am Wendy," Kira greets her, and she slowly nods her head.
"Ma'am Alexa and her mom are in the pool, so I brought you something to eat. You haven't had something all day," Kira says to her, and that is when she realizes that she has been with a tray in her hand.
"Thank you," She smiles at Kira as she takes the tray of food from her, and walks back into her room...
