Chapter 12
"Come on, Alex. We're not quarreling, are we? I just missed you and I called to check up on you," Zora's calm voice sounds from the other end, and he sighs briefly as he rests his head on the headrest. The feelings he thought he had gotten rid of years ago came hitting at him as he feels his heart beating rapidly against his chest. How the hell her voice still makes him feel this way even after so many years is a puzzle he can't bring himself to sort out.
"Thank you," He says to calmly, trying to fight this crazy feeling. They have been apart for years, she should fucking know her boundary and stop talking to him.
"Hmm. Bye," She says from the other end, before silence reigns there, and he assumes that she already ended the call.
He sighs briefly as he drops his phone on the passenger's seat next to him, before he starts the car. The thought of Zora keep popping up in his head as he drives down the road, and every effort to get it off proves abortive.
"Come on, don't be like that. She may not even be thinking of what I'm thinking of now. It has been years, and must've moved on already. She moved on already," He mutters to himself as he drives down the road, heading to his house.
Arriving at his compound a few minutes later, he parks at the garage and hops out of the car, but he stops on his track as something catches his attention at the parking lot. The blue car parked there looks like his sister's car.
"Is Alexa here?" He asks no one while pulling a confused look. He shrugs before heading to the entrance door, but he stops on his track when he steps into the living room and find Alexa sitting there with her legs crossed on the center table, feeling relaxed.
"What the hell is she doing at my house now?" He asks himself and sighs briefly. It's not that he doesn't want her around, only if her visit here won't cause problem for his wife.
"You're here? Come on, come here," Alexa stands up to her feet and walks over to hug him as soon as she notices his presence, while he just stands there in a daze, still wondering what's happening.
"You didn't tell me you were coming here," He finally expresses his shock as he watches her throw herself on the couch like she owns the house. That's her problem anyway.
"Do I have to always inform my brother when coming for a visit?" She rolls her eyes sarcastically, and he sighs briefly.
"I'm sorry. I am just surprised that you're here. Anyway, where's my wife?" He asks, and just then, the footsteps descending the staircase lazily pulls his attention, and a wide exciting smile spreads on his lips as he watches his ever beautiful wife walking up to him.
"Welcome home, honey. How was work," She asks after she hugs him.
"It was fine. Come on, let's go inside," He says to her and takes her hand.
"I want to have a word with you, Alex," Alexa springs up to his feet and says to him, after she glares daggers at Wendy for some reason best known to herself.
"I'll be back, Alexa. I need to change my clothes upstairs in my room," He says to her before he finally walks away while holding his wife's hand.
Walking into their room a few minutes later, Wendy slumps on the bed tiredly, trying so hard to put on a smile even if she's not happy. For the past hours since Alexa came to the house, she has been through nothing, but hell. Hearing her talking on the phone with the Zora girl all day, and telling the girl how much Alex is still crazy about her, makes Wendy feels uncomfortable.
"Are you OK, babe?" His voice snaps her out of her thoughts, and she tilts his head to see him standing half-naked with just his brief on. His perfectly toned abs is everything to stare at, as they're eyes appealing.
"Hmm. I'm fine. I made your favorite," She says, trying to change the topic. This man just came back from office, and the last she wants now is to stress him, so she better just give this up already.
"Did Alexa bully you when she came around?" Noticing the pale look on her face, he needs no one to tell him that she just lied to him. Everything is not fine, and it can be traced back to his sister.
"Not at all," She quickly shakes her head in denial, even if she knows deep down that she's the reason. She has many questions going on in her mind. She wants to know who that Zora is, she's feeling threatened with every mention of her name, and she just needs to know who she is, and if her husband still have feelings for her, but at the same time, she doesn't feel like it'll be right to talk to him about it.
"Don't think about it, Wendy. Your husband loves you," She assures herself, even as a part of her still feels unsafe about this whole situation.
"Are you sure?" Alex's voice disrupts her thoughts, and she as she snaps back to reality, those beautiful brown eyes melts her heart as she stares into them. For some reason, she feels all her worries fades away in just a few seconds, seeing the assurance in his eyes, she feels like she has nothing to worry about. Her husband will always be here.
"Hmm," She finally nods her head, and he sighs briefly as he stands up to his feet.
"Come here, babe," He pulls her up to her feet and plants a soft kiss on her lips, while rubbing her stomach like his life depends on it.
"You should have your bath and come to the dining for dinner. I don't want your food to get cold," She says to him after he pulls away from the kiss, but still having his arms wraps around her waist.
"Alright. I'll be here in a jiffy," He says to her, then kisses her forehead before he finally drags his feet into the bathroom, and the sound of water splashing follows after a few minutes that he walked into the bathroom.
She sighs deeply, slumping on the edge of the bed and burying her face in between her palms, having many thoughts flooding her mind. Her mind is messed up at the moment, and she just needs to get things right...
