"Uh... n-no. Why would I do that?" she said but her face was so guilty.
Quinn folded her arms across her chest as she said, "Didn't you want me to be with him before now you want to weasel your way into his apartment."
Amalie, "..."
Was this still the child she gave birth to? How disrespectful. "Uh yes yes your mother is a weasel now come let's get ready," she said pulling her daughter who was still wearing cute onesies to bed. She wanted to criticize her but when she recalled how her father in law drained the colour out of her little girl she kept her mouth shut.
"Ready for what?" she asked while slumping down on the couch heavily.
"For your bachelorette of course," replied Amalie while walking into the kitchen.
Quinn who was messing with the remote turned her gaze sharply towards her and her eyes widened.
"What did you say?" she asked and Amalie peered her head through the door before saying, "Don't act dumb. I already spoke to Leif. He came over yesterday to apologise for being hasty."
Quinn, "WTF"
She jumped up from the couch and asked what she meant by hasty. If her mother found out that she had a contract marriage with Leif, forget getting married, this woman will skin her alive.
Her mother was very sensitive to these things, especially after her experience. There was one thing she wanted for Quinn that is to have a happy love life, a happy marriage and a happy family. She didn't want her child to go through what she went through.
Quinn was afraid that bastard would tell her mother what sort of relationship they had but it turns out Amalie wouldn't be here talking about bachelorette parties if she knew the truth.
Thinking her daughter was unhappy about the bachelorette party Amalie held her shoulder and said, "I know it's like a shotgun wedding because of his family pressure but we still have to send you off well. You don't have many friends but we have to do something special for you. Now get ready for a day of fun."
"Mum it's not nerce-," she said but Amalie interrupted her.
"I promise it won't be big. We will go to the spa with your aunties and have a lovely dinner that's all," she explained and Quinn narrowed her eyes as though saying 'really'.
"No strippers?" asked Quinn knowingly. She knew her aunties too well. They had been friends with her mother for a long time and she called them aunties. Though not related by blood she knew them better than her actual aunt.
Amalie stumbled upon hearing her words before hurriedly saying, "No no strippers," her voice a pitch higher.
Quinn almost rolled her eyes hearing this. The words 'I am lying' were clearly written on her mother's face but she didn't want to expose her.
"Now go take a shower. Mum will prepare something nice for you," she said and left.
Quinn hurriedly grabbed her cell phone and entered the bathroom. She turned on the shower and called Leif.
With water gushing down like a waterfall she pulled up his number and dialled it. Leif didn't answer immediately.
In fact, she called him two times and only got an answer on the third try. Leif was walking out of a meeting when Lars handed him the cell phone.
"She called twice," he said and Leif nodded his head. He was about to call her back when he entered his office but she called again. Leif waved off Lars and stood by the floor to ceiling window looking down at the busy streets.
"Hello," he said but his brows suddenly furrowed when he heard the sound of water. What was she doing? Snorkelling?
"You... What did you tell my mother?" she asked changing the scolding at the tip of her tongue realising who she was talking to.
"Nothing. I just asked her for your hand in marriage and apologised for being hasty," he replied his face expressionless but his voice sounded like he was enjoying this greatly.
"I would much appreciate it if we discuss these things first. If my mother finds out about this deal she will kill us both," she explained in a loud whisper while pressing her ear on the door just in case.
"Why?" he asked playing dumb. Oh, how good that felt. He had suffered under Quinn's tyranny for so long that he didn't think he would have this day.
"Why? Why? It's because we are going to be married so we should discuss these things," she said wishing she could directly enter through the phone and operate on his head to see if there was a brain in there or a puddle of water.
"Aren't you getting into the role too seriously? I am the boss and you are the subordinate so what I say goes," he said unable to resist the urge to put his hand in his pocket.
Quinn gritted her teeth seeing no flaw in that. As long as Leif stuck to the parameters of the contract he was the boss and she was the subordinate.
Quinn quickly calm down and just as Leif thought he had won the counterattack she said,
"Fine. Have a lovely day president Carnall. I am going to enjoy myself with strippers tonight," and directly cut the call.
"Don't you dare," he said but his words didn't reach the person they were meant to. She had actually hung up on him. Was there a problem with Quinn going to have some fun with strippers? Yes, there definitely was more especially for a person who liked the people around him to be squeaky clean. What if those family members of his dug up pictures of his supposed wife putting money into a muscular man dressed like Tarzan's pants? Just imagining it made him feel uncomfortable in his stomach.
"Lars, find out where Amalie is taking Quinn tonight," he said and Lars could feel the suppressed anger in that voice thus he didn't ask unnecessary questions.
"I will get it done," he said before scurrying away.
Quinn opened the bathroom door and found as expected her mother standing outside. "Uh... no strippers?" she asked a little hesitant.
"Yes... lots of them," said Quinn while heading to her bedroom.
