Rain followed Allen to his hostel, while they were going, she kept wondering why she was following him with any questions. She clearly remembered being angry with him because of how he humiliated her but why she was mindlessly following him was something she couldn't find the reasons for.
When they got to the male hostels, she still followed him up to his room, forgetting that many students had already seen her and that her image was at stake. As they entered his room, Allen cleared his throat and turned to face her.
"Do you know why I asked you to follow me?" He asked her.
"Whatever it is, I hope it's a better reason or you'll regret it," she replied with a frown.
"Your marriage with Nat isn't working, right? I want you to call it off," he said to her. She was left speechless because she believed that no one else apart from the two families involved knows about the marriage. Her friends in school all believe that she and Nat are just in a relationship out of love — No one knew that the relationship was as a result of the business binding their two families. "Are you surprised that I'm aware of this?" He asked her, studying the expressions on her face.
"How did you know about it? You are not spying on me, are you?" She asked him with creased brows.
"I don't have the leisure time to waste on anyone, especially you," Allen replied to her, causing her to frown more.
"Then what do you want?" She snapped.
"It's very simple. Since you are also not interested in the marriage, why don't you call it off?" He asked her.
"You think it's that easy, right?" She asked him. A deep frown appeared on her face as she was staring at him. "The marriage contract is something we can't just break, it was created by our late grandparents and we can't just break it," she said with a sad look on her face. She was clearly not happy about the marriage between her and Nat and there was nothing they could do about it. It was not in their power to break the contract.
Allen was disturbed, he had thought it was something he could do without having to trouble himself. He didn't know that it was this complicated and troublesome.
"Is there a way for both parents to cancel the contract? Any means at all?" He asked her.
"Yes, the only way to cancel the contract is by one of us dying. With one of the parties gone forever, the contract will automatically be broken —"
"Then, you die," Allen said, not allowing her to complete her sentence.
Hearing what he said, Rain was shocked beyond words. She gazed at him for a while, wondering what kind of person he was.
"What is it?" He asked her, seeing the way she was staring at him. "Is it that difficult to die?" He asked her again.
"Are you joking?" She asked him.
"Joking? Do I look like a joke?" Allen asked her with a scoff. "Tsk... I promised to make you cancel this marriage and I must do anything to make sure the promise is fulfilled. If I kill you right here, no one would know about it, what do you say?" He added and began to approach her with slow strides.
Rain looked at him in the eyes, seeing the expression on his face, she got scared and began to move backward until her back touched the wall. Having no place to run to, she knew or thought that she was done for already. At this point, she began to regret following him like a mindless fool — If only she had not taken pity on him for the loss of his parents, she wouldn't have ended up in his room, in a situation like this.
Allen smirked inwardly, seeing how scared she was already. ' I don't smell any strange aura from her meaning that she's just a human, I can easily control her mind but it won't be enough to cancel the marriage. To succeed, I'll need to go the extra mile, that is, controlling one of the parents. Nat is a demon so his parents are obviously demons, they may be strong and difficult to deal with so the only option is going to her parent instead ' He thought as he approached her. When he got close enough, he raised his hand in an attempt to hurt her and so she retaliated by raising her arms to block the attack. "Hey, I need you to take me to your parents if you want the marriage canceled," he said to her and walked away from her.
She was expecting him to hit her or at least do something to hurt her like he did before but all that she was expecting didn't happen, letting her be stunned for a moment until he spoke again.
"Or don't you want to be free from the chains of this marriage?" He asked her, snapping her out of her thoughts.
There was nothing else she wanted except for her freedom. She never liked Nat to begin with, despite how handsome and rich he was. She couldn't develop any feelings for him, no matter how much she tried — Everything they were doing was all but a pretense.
"I don't know if they'll be happy to meet you," she said sadly.
"Oh, don't worry about that. I have my ways, just take me there and you can leave the rest for me," he replied to her.
"When are we going?" She asked him after thinking about what he said for a while. She would have refused him but she didn't know why she suddenly have this feeling of trust in him. It was like, she believes he is the only person who can help her get the freedom she has always yearned for.
"Tomorrow. We'll go tomorrow after class, I need to see him first," he replied. He was talking about Nat, he would have to see him first and inform him about the latest update before anything else.
"Okay, tomorrow after class it is," she said.
"You can leave now," he said to her and turned to go to his bed.
"Just like that?" She asked him, still standing in the same spot.
"Or what? Do you need something else?" He asked her as he turned to face her. He gazed at her face, she was somewhat surprised about something, and unfortunately, he couldn't fathom what it was. ' I wish I could read minds, damn ' he groaned inwardly at his misfortune.
"I thought we could... " She replied and paused. She was biting her lower lips while playing with her fingers.
"We could do what? What's wrong with you? You are acting weird," he replied, not quite sure of what was going on with her.
Seeming already embarrassed at herself, Rain sighed and left the room immediately. After she left, Allen scoffed.
"Really? Girls..." He sighed.
