Chapter 30 - The Lake

"Honey, what do you plan to do about the boys?" The woman asked her husband as soon as Nat dragged Allen out of the throne room.

The man narrowed his eyes and then a smirk appeared at the corner of his lips. "I won't let them leave here alive. Those two can't be alive or all our efforts these years will be wasted," he replied.

"Honey, when should we tell him the truth?" The woman asked him again.

"Let's see how it goes," he replied and let out a muffled chuckle.

Meanwhile, as the boys left the throne room, Allen suddenly halted a bit which spiked Nat's curiosity.

"Hey, what is it? Why did you suddenly stop?" He asked him.

Allen gazed at him for a while, he didn't know what he should tell him but whatever it was going to be, he knew very well that the truth would hurt him.

"Nothing. I'm just curious," he lied. Though he didn't know how to control his expressions, he knew quite well how to hide it a bit.

"Curious about what?" Nat asked him.

"Why did you suddenly want to make me your friend? And I am yet to agree to it too," Allen replied, staring at him in the eyes to know if his reply would be the truth or some excuse.

"If you ask me, I honestly don't know why either. I just felt it would be great having someone with the same personality as a friend, I can't figure out another reason," Nat replied.

Seeing that he was serious about what he said, Allen gazed at the door that led to the throne room for a while before returning his gaze to Nat. "Let's go," he said to him.

"Is that all you are curious about?" Nat asked him.

' In as much as I want to say no, I won't say it ' "Yes, that is all I wanna know for now," Allen replied and Nat had no choice but to agree.

"Then let's go," he said and continued leading the way.

Nat showed Allen some of the places in the demon realm — the markets, schools, hospitals, and most of the houses belonging to the elders and chiefs. It took him half of the entire day to take Allen around and when they were done, he decided to take him to the most important place in the entire demon realm.

"Are you really going to take me inside?" Allen asked him as they stood before the large gate that leads to the citadel.

Nat smirked and held his hand. "I don't talk much," he said and dragged him along as he walked to the gate. As they were about to go in, two demon guards appeared and blocked their path.

"No one is allowed inside the citadel," one of them said.

"Hey, I'm the heir to the throne so get out of the way!" Nat ordered them but the guards won't budge.

"My lord, we can let you pass but not him. He is a vampire and vampires are forbidden to be seen around us," the other guard said and bowed.

"How is that my business? If you don't let us pass right at this moment, I'll be forced to use my blood on you. And you know what that means, don't you?" Nat said to them.

The guards seeming terrified by the threats looked at themselves and then abruptly disappeared from the gate to let them pass.

"What was that you just did?" Allen asked him.

"My blood can destroy demons, and they can't be reborn afterward," Nat replied with a proud smile.

"Is it just you or —?"

"I'm the only one. Only my blood can make any demon vanish forever," Nat replied and led Allen inside the gate.

Inside the citadel, stood a mass body of water, and from the center emitted the purple light that stretched far into the sky.

"What is that? I can feel the strong energy that is surrounding the whole place," Allen asked Nat.

"That's our life lake," Nat replied and made his way toward the lake. "Our ancestors emerged from this lake and we get our energies from it," he explained further.

"That is awesome," Allen said and went to stand next to Nat who smiled.

"Isn't it? Anyway, can you guess what my reward for you is?" He asked him.

"I'm not good at guessing, thought I told you?" Allen replied.

"That's boring," Nat said with a mumble.

"Can you just tell me what the reward is? I hate to guess," Allen muttered with a tired expression.

"Go in," Nat said to him.

"I should go in? Is that allowed?" Allen asked him, he looked worried and confused at the same time.

"What do you think?" Nat asked and smirked. "This is my reward for you so you have no choice but to accept it, don't worry about the rules, I don't give a damn about them," he said.

"So... how should I do it?" Allen sighed and asked him.

"Take off your clothes and go in," Nat replied and began to take off his clothes. Allen did as he was told and pulled off his clothes. He watched as Nat went into the water and also did the same.

The moment his legs touched the water, he felt warm and then went further to dip the remaining parts of his body inside. Just as he had relaxed himself, a cold sensation began to surge through his veins. He touched the water and it was hot but his body was freezing, it was as if he had been dipped into a pool of ice.

"Wh-what is this?" He asked Nat who seemed to be calm.

"What is what?" Nat asked him, pretending to not know what Allen was talking about.

"How can you be so calm? I'm freezing up already!" Allen replied with a deep frown.

Nat burst out laughing, the look on Allen's face was something he had never seen before — the latter was angry and worried at the same time.

"What is funny? I'm leaving here," Allen got upset and was about to leave but Nat stopped him immediately.

"Sorry about the laugh, it's funny watching you being scared," Nat apologized, still laughing a bit.

"I'm not scared, you got it all wrong," Allen corrected him. "Tell me, why am I feeling so much cold?" He asked him.

"It is the nature of the lake to be warm and cold at the same time. It may seem like a normal lake to you but try concentrating on your body, close your eyes, and try to focus your mind on the energy around you and you'll see the changes," Nat explained.

"What will happen if I do so?" Allen asked him.

"Just try it, you'll love the outcome," Nat replied. He didn't want to tell him anything, letting him find out by himself was what he wanted.

Allen reluctantly did as he was told and closed his eyes. He began to focus his mind on the energy surrounding him and soon, it was difficult at first but he didn't stop until he was able to see the faint traces of what looked like long streaks of purple light moving towards him from the center of the lake.

[Your body is consuming the demon energy in the lake, should I allow it?]

Hearing the system's message, Allen now had a clear understanding of what was happening.

' Is it a good thing? I'm a vampire, how is it possible that I can consume demon energy?'

[I don't know, it's never been heard of. I would have suggested that you shouldn't try it but I'm also curious as to what the outcome will be]

' I'm equally as curious as you are but I don't want anything bad to happen '

[If anything goes wrong, I'm here to stop it ]

' Then go ahead and let's give it a try '

As soon as Allen gave the system permission to continue, the purple lights surrounding him all began to flow into his body. ' So much energy ' He thought in excitement as he felt the rushing energies that filled his entire body.
