Chapter 18 - Coma

I woke up again or should I say became conscious again, but still could not open my eyes.

I thought I had been dreaming,but no.

I was not dreaming at all.

I am still at the hospital, lying in the damn bed with the head band still covering my eyes.

Did I become blind too?

I could not feel any presence in the room.

There was no one there.

Am I finally dead?

Or am I still in a coma?

And I wasn't feeling weak.

I miss home.

I miss J.J.

I miss the taste of food.

Speaking of food.

Why am I not hungry?

Why am I feeling hot?

My entire body is burning.

Ouch.

This is not right.

There is something else wrong with me.

But I can't tell what it is.

My head was spinning.

And I was nauseated too.

What the hell is happening to me?

It was as if I was thrown into a hot oil.

I am not comfortable.

My heart started beating slowly so that I could count it.

Just then I heard the patient's monitoring machine beeping beside me.

Just then the door creaked open and footsteps rushed in.

"Patient's heart beat is very low. Temperature very high." Someone said,

"Let's move this patient to the emergency ward. QR section. She needs an urgent operation." Another voice said.

Who needs a head surgery.

Just then the bed started moving.

Patient's heart beat just dropped again.

We entered a room that was very bright, I could feel some light entering my eyes.

QR.

"Give me a defibrillator." The first voice said.

Just then, my heart beat ceased.

Am I dead?

Am I going to die for real now?

"One, two, three," the voice said again.

I felt a heavy metal on my chest.

I lifted my body like a magnet would lift metals and then my body dropped.

I was very scared.

What's happening to me?

"One"

"Two"

"Three," the voice said and placed the defibrillator on my chest again, but this time it was more powerful.

It raised me to the extent that my head dropped from behind and then dropped my body again.

"One more try," the voice instructed again.

"One."

"Two."

"Three."

It was twice as strong and powerful this time. It lifted me again like a feather, that I almost sat up and then dropped me again which made the bed move slightly.

The moment my body reached the bed, I felt a powerful force one my chef as if it was going to explode.

My heart started beating again, I could hear it's rhythm as if it was in my head or in my ears.

"Heart beat restored," the voice said, just then the other people in the room cheered her and applauded.

It was the doctor that my mom talked to.

"Let us leave her to rest for an hour. Get the clipper and the surgical tools ready. Let's go attend to other patients for now."

She said and left, as the others followed.

I feel much better now.

My heart beat has been restored to normal.

But I do not want to get my head shaved.

Oh God.

I need a miraculous recovery.

My temperature became very high again.

I couldn't breathe too, as I was longing for air.

The patient's monitoring machine started beeping again.

What is happening again?

I do not want my hair to be shaved off.

I do not want an open head surgery.

I might die if it doesn't come out a success.

I do not want to die.

Am still young.

Am still a teenager.

Please God.

Spare me.

Just this once.

I wanted to cry, but for some reason unknown to me, I couldn't.

Just then everywhere went blank again.

I opened my eyes and saw myself in a garden, a beautiful one.

But I was lying on a hospital bed a second ago.

How come?

"Eunice."

I heard an unfamiliar, very deep, loud voice called out.

With thunder and lightning with every word he said.

"Yes."

"Who is it?" I asked.

"Eunice."

The voice called again.

"Am here, under an apple tree," I said, shouting at the top of my voice.

I looked around and saw other apple trees too.

Wow!

There are different varieties of fruit trees here.

"Eunice,"

the voice called out again.

"Yes."

"Where are you?" I asked.

"Am everywhere."

"Am here." The voice said.

"Why can't I see you?" I asked.

"Am invisible to the human eyes, but since you want to see me I will transform into a form." The voice said to me

"Okay," I replied.

Then, there came thunder rumbling, it was deafening and then I saw lighting that was so bright that it could get one blind instantly. It was so bright that I couldn't look. I had to look away and use my hands as shade.

The rumbling ceased and light became reduced, I looked up and saw a figure walking towards me. I wasn't sure what it was.

I was a bit scared.

Terrified.

I looked keenly and saw that it was a woman. A very beautiful lady.

She was in a very bright robe that was emitting light. It was as if she had bulbs underneath the robe.

She was wearing a golden crown that perfectly fitted her head, with her hair beautifully arranged with some visible braids.

Her skin was the whitest I had ever seen. It looked very soft. Her lips were tiny and perfectly heart shaped. It was as red as rose.

She walked graciously too.

She walked towards me and stretched out a hand, which I grabbed.

Boom!

I was in the air.

"Eunice," she said, her voice was melodious.

Her accent is one I have never heard before, so unique.

"Yes." I replied.

"Do you know why you are here and not in the hospital bed?" She asked.

"No."

I replied, shaking my head too.

"You are dead." She said,

"What?" I asked her, shocked.

I was staring at her for an answer.

"You just died." She said,

"Who are you?"

"Are you a grim reaper?" I asked her.

She shook her head and smiled at me.

"Why are you smiling?"

"This is not funny," I confronted her.

"No, it's not." She said to me,

"So, who are you?" I asked her, curiously.

"Your guardian angel." She said to me,

"My guardian angel?" I asked her.

She just nodded and smiled.

"So, why are you here since I am dead?"

"What about the grim reapers?"

She smiled, faced me and said,

"There are no such persons as grim reapers."

"Really?" I asked her.

She nodded again and said,

"Those are myths. Grim reapers are nothing but, just the product of man's emotion and imagination, acted upon by his surroundings."

"How do you know that?" I asked her.

"Because I have been around before the formation and creation of mankind and its container." She said,

"What container?" I asked her.

"The universe," she said.

Oh!

"So for how long have you been a guardian angel?" I asked her.

"Ever since you were first created," she replied.

I kissed my teeth, laughed softly and then said,

"For just nineteen years?" I asked her.

"No. Your total lifespan is one thousand and sixty nine years. This is your twenty lifetimes. You have been reincarnated nineteen times in your total lifetime." She explained to me.

"What the f…" She cut me off before I completed the sentence.

"No curses here." She said to me,

"Oh sorry." I apologized.

"In your last life, your lover committed suicide to protect you and that closed between you two. He has been your lover all your life." She said,

"What about this life?" I asked.

"He is not your lover in this life. You share the same blood in this life." She said,

"The same blood?"

"Like a sibling?"

"I can't tell you. You will know when the time comes."

"I don't have a sibling. Am an only child." I said to her,

"Hallelujah."

"God is merciful. He pitied you, because in your last life, you begged him to allow you to see your lover in your next life. The only condition that will make you too see again is if you share the same blood and not lovers." She explained to me.

"Who is he in this life?" I asked

"A very close relative," she said.

"No."

"I mean, who do I know him as?" I asked her.

"That I can't tell you. You will find out when the time comes." She replied to me.

"When the time comes?"

"What do you mean by that?"

"But I'm already dead." I said to her, as I became a bit confused.

Before she could say anything, I asked her another question.

"Am I getting reincarnated again?"

She smiled, shook her head and said,

"No."

"You are not getting reincarnated for now, until you die in your default time in this life."

"What do you mean by that?" I asked her.

"You are going back.". She said,

"Going back?"

"Going back to where?" I asked.

"To your mother," she replied.

"Oh!"

"Yes."

"Before you go, is there anything else you want to say or ask me?"

"Yes," I said.

Did she just read my mind or saw through me?

Am I that transparent?

"Were you the owner of that other voice?" I asked.

"No." She replied.

"So, who owns it?" I asked her.

"God." She replied.

"God?"

"Jehovah."

"I that I am," she added.

I just nodded, because I was out of words.

"Do you know the reason you are here?" She asked me.

I shook my head and said,

"No."

"I don't."

"Why?" I asked her.

"Because God wants to fulfill the promise he made to you in your previous life." She explained to me.

"Oh!" Was all I could say.

I was speechless.

It's an honor.

Am being honored by the almighty.

"You would have been judged, maybe punished and then reincarnated, if not for your last good deed." She said,

"Last good deed?"

"Which last good deed?" I asked.

Once again, I am a bit confused.

"The last good deed you did that led to your death."

"Don't you remember?" She asked.

"No, I don't," I replied, shaking my head at the same time.

"You helped a total stranger." She said,

"A total stranger?"

"Who?" I asked.

"Genevieve," she said.

Genevieve?

Oh that's true.

She is a total, no half stranger.

I got used to her in just a day.

"So?"

"Your heavenly father is very pleased with that. You did not just give her a place to sleep. You clothed her. You would have still died that night if you did not do that."

"What?"

"You are kidding, right?"

I couldn't believe my ears.

"What would have happened?" I asked.

"You would have died by hypoxic-anoxic injury that night." She said and smiled.

"Lack of oxygen?" I asked, guessing.

"Yes." She replied.

Yes!

Am not a medical student for nothing.

"Lack of oxygen by your entire body," she added.

"What?"

"Like suffocation?" I asked.

"Yes." She said,

"You are pretty smart," I said to her and smiled.

"I learnt that from you. From your previous life." She said to me and laughed softly.

"What?" I asked.

"You have been a doctor all your lives. Surgeon, physiotherapist, medical laboratory scientist, optician and so much more." She said to me and grinned.

"Wow," I said to her.

"You are pretty smart yourself." She said to me,

"So will I become a doctor this time?" I asked her.

"I don't know. I don't know the future. God does." She explained to me.

"Oh!" I said.

"Yes." She said,

"Wow." Was all I could say.

She faced me again and said,

"One more thing."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Genevieve will play a good role in your life."

" Don't be good only to her, but to others too."

"Always remember that." She said to me,

She brought out a wand and started circling it in the air.

"Wait." I said.

"What's that?" I asked.

"What are you doing?" I asked again.

"I want to send you home," she said to me.

"Okay," I said.

"One more thing," she said to me.
