Ceaser had no words to tell Crow because even he knew that what he had done was despicable. He had given Eve hope but then had shattered her immediately afterwards. Crow's gaze on his master did not change or soften at all which made Ceaser more aware of the anger that was boiling inside Crow. He got up from where he was sitting the stand in front of Crow who was already standing and looked him in the eyes.
"I'm sorry but it's not my fault. You have always known that I never wanted to get married and you are trying to force me. Isn't it only right that she gets broken right now other than later?"
"Why didn't you tell me? I would have talked to her but instead you went on to do such a thing to her. That poor child is now grieving because of you."
Ceaser lowered his gaze and then looked away from Crow completely. Crow did not stay any longer and left Mount Genesis to look for his niece and Elizabeth, whom he was sure she would have confided in first. The sun was quick to set but Crow did not stop his search until he even reached the kingdom of Zeth. He finally relaxed because he could finally sense her presence. He did not go in, however, because he knew that he would not be able to face her. It had been his fault for having believed that Caesar would be the one to keep his niece away from harm and heartache.
He transformed himself into a sparrow and flew over to Eve's window where he sat on the windowsill. The curtains were not drawn so he could clearly see her lying down on the bed while Elizabeth patted her back to calm her down. His own heart was in a spiral and was raging like a tornado. No matter how much he wanted to, he could not hurt Ceaser nor hate him. He couldn't hurt him because he was his master and he couldn't hate him because it was not his fault. Crow understood that love could not be implemented of forced onto someone. Even if Ceaser had gone through with a wedding Eve would never be happy in the arms of a man who did not love her back. What hurt Crow the was that it was because of him that his innocent niece had now found out that her feelings would never be reciprocated by the one she loved. Crow left the window soon afterwards and Elizabeth turned to look in that direction.
"Is he gone?" Eve asked in a whimper as she tried to stop herself from crying again.
"Yes. He just left." Elizabeth replied.
Eve sat up on the bed looking paler than her usual self. Her eyes were swollen from all the crying that she had done that day and her cheeks were lined where the tears had been rolling down her cheeks. Even her hair that had always been kept neatly was ruffled up and tangled up.
"He does not deserve your tears." Elizabeth said to Eve.
"I know." Eve replied solemnly,"You do not have to worry. I will not cry about him anymore."
She brought her hand up to her face and wiped the tear that fell from her right eye and then she said,
"This is the last tear I shed because of him."
She blew the tear away and it fell on the surface of her dress where it was easily absorbed by the material. Elizabeth clapped for her friend to cheer her up and to cheer her on.
"This is the beginning of a new life for you." Elizabeth said to her friend.
Eve went to take a shower while Elizabeth remained in the room looking in the direction where Crow had disappeared.
"I guess I cannot see you either." Elizabeth said to herself as she thought about Crow.
She knew that Eve would only be reminded of Ceaser every time she saw Crow so she had decided that she would not meet Crow again so as not to hurt her friends feelings.
"That darn little prince." she said in distaste at the end when she thought about Ceaser,"Now I will have to give up my love."
When Crow reached mount Genesis again he was not surprised when he found that Ceaser had gone back home but he was truly surprised when he could not sense an ounce of guilt from his master or at least empathy. He did not want to go back to Dreg so soon because he wanted to show his master just how upset you was by his actions. He would go back only on the day that he and the lycans were expected to be back in Dreg as planned. Early the next morning Crow traveled back to Zeth to check on Eve and Elizabeth. He hoped that she was better and that what he had heard before going to far from her room was not true.
It was good that she had decided that she would not cry because of Ceaser again but something in the tone of her voice told him otherwise. He feared that she would become the person that he had become because of grief. He was a bad person to begin with but he did not want Eve to turn out the same way he did. When he landed by the window seal Eve was having her hair combed by one of the servants who told her that her parents had sent a message saying that they would come back in three days time.
When the servant was done combing her hair, Eve dismissed her. She was alone in the room but even then Crow could not bring himself to come face to face with her. He decided it was best to just check on her every morning so that he would be sure that she is okay.
The look of sadness had not disappeared from her eyes but it was masked by something else; something more dangerous than sadness. The intent to kill and to destroy. Crow was too familiar with that look because he had held that look in his own eyes his whole life and even in the rock where he had been frozen in time by Ceaser he still had that look and the determination to push through but after he had received his enemy's grandson as his master, that look and desire to kill had been replaced by the feeling of belonging and wanting to belong.
"War to Ceaser." he heard Eve say out loud as if she knew he was there,"War to Ceaser.
Crow said nothing and soon flew away from the window seal to go and talk to Ceaser. He stopped himself, however, remembering that he wanted Caesar to go through some pain on his own.
"Should I support my niece or my master?" he asked himself.
The former would not work out because either way his body was now wired to defend Ceaser at all costs. He returned to Mount Genesis after thinking about what he was going to do. He had not come to a conclusion but he decided that he would let the two of them sort out their differences on their own. He would remain neutral in whatever battle was about to take place. He did know that winner of the battle would automatically take over the other kingdom which he was sure was something that both of them wanted. He also knew that the loser would have to be the slave of the other.
"What are you thinking about?" he heard Genevia ask him from behind,"I smell bloodshed." she continued to say.
"What are you talking about?" Crow asked her.
"I smell war." she continued looking at the sky.
Crow looked away from her to look up at the sky as well. They sat there for a while before Crow was left alone by Genevia who went to check on her husband. Crow got up soon afterwards and decided to go warn his master about the impending danger and the crisis that would follow. By the time he reached Dreg it was already night fall. It was a moonless night so everything was darker than usual. Crow made his way to Ceaser's room but when he got there the room was empty. Not knowing where Ceaser might have gone, Crow immediately made his way to Evirelda's room to see if Ceaser had gone there.
The girl was fast asleep when Crow entered her room. He shook her to wake her up and she woke up drowzily.
"Where is Ceaser?"
"What do you mean? You are not supposed to be here for another three days." she said looking confused.
"Where could he have gone if he's not here?" Crow asked no one in particular.
He left the room in a hurry wondering what may have happened to Ceaser for him not to be here. None of the lycans had heard about him since he had left mount Genesis.
