Chapter 39 - THE TRUTH

Crow listened patiently as Ceaser told the tail of how his grandfather died but he could not piece together something; how was Solemn born if the two of them died on that day. Ceaser new exactly what Crow was thinking and continued saying,

"When she opened her eyes, she told him she felt something inside her and it was moving."

"So you're telling me that Solemn was born from a dead woman?"

"No that is not what I am saying."

"And how exactly was Julius born?"

"Patience. I'm getting to that part."

"I am listening. A witch was called for to the room where thehe dying Sarah lay next to her husband who was also dying but more slowly. The witch saw that Sarah was pregnant, so she called a young maid and somehow transferred the baby to her. Solemn and Julius where born from that woman in the same birth but for some reason it seems that Solemn was months older than Julius."

"Is it possible that Sarah was pregnant with Solemn then got pregnant with Julius?" Crow asked confused. Ceaser shrugged his shoulders and this made Crow frown in disappointment.

"It's all a lie. Clause lied to you just go and ask him properly I'm sure he will confess that he does not know what happened." Ceaser laughed and got up from where he was sitting.

"Let's leave this place it feels dense in here."

"I still have something to ask you."Crow said and Ceaser turned to look at him.

"If it is about the war, yes I'm still going through with it. Let her come with all she has and I'll give her what I have. If you want to turn back I'm sorry to inform you but that's not possible. You are on my side no matter what." Crow was left speechless but he did not try to even mentally disagree with Caesar.

He followed his master out of the tombs and together the headed back to the palace. When they got there, Evirelda was sitting outside with the boy she had been with when she had given out flower crowns.

"You are back."she said to them with a bright smile on her face,"Where are the others. If I am not mistaken the princess and her friend came along with you."

"They decided to go back home."

"Why didn't you come in a carriage?"

"We left it in town."

"Then why didn't you come on horses like you did the first time?"

"Why are you asking me foolish questions?" Caeser said and it made the little girl laugh.

"It was just a harmless question, there is no need for you to get angry with me." Caeser walked into the palace leaving the little girl a little stunned and the boy looking confused.

Crow went in afterwards as his mind was quickly filled with images of a bloody battlefield. It wasn't the first time he was going to be killing innocent people but knowing that he was fighting against his niece it put a heavy load on his chest that he could not get rid of. He followed Caeser to his room and while Caeser took a bath Crow lay down on the bed lost in thought. Suddenly, his mind went back to the tail that Caesar had told him. He still did not understand how the two were born. He now doubted if they were royals at all. When Caeser came out he looked at Crow who lay as if he was a corpse on the bed.

"If you are upset with me you should go and sleep elsewhere." he said. Crow opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling,

"I am not upset, I am just thinking about the odd birth of Solemn and Julius. Why have you not tried to ask Julius about it. He must know where he came from." Ceaser did not respond because he wasn't too fond of Julius.

"I will ask later on but first we have a war on our hands, don't we?"

"It is not like you will need an army." Crow commented sarcastically and Caeser chuckled,

"Of course. All I need is you and if you betray me I'll kill you myself." Crow chuckled in a deep voice that was sure to send shivers down everyone's spine but the person he was with was not a normal person.

"I think your grandfather knew that we would get along very well." As soon as he uttered those words he thought wondered to how the old man had known about his grandson if he had not even seen his son get married.

"Maybe Clause lied." Ceaser said thoughtfully.

"Of course he lied. None of the things he told you make sense."

"Who do you think we should ask?"

"I do not know. Genevia is also a cunning woman and I feel like she would lie to us even worse than Clause did.

"I still do not understand why Clause would lie."

"I have a question for you Caeser. How could you believe such nonsense. Didn't you try to peice anything together to make sense of what you're telling."

"I did not. That was in the first year after I had been taken to Genesis and I was still young"

"Or maybe he told you the truth and your mind has jumbled everything." Crow suggested

"No. I remember things perfectly well."

"Hasn't your mother ever told you anything about what Ceaser did after he had come back?"

"She has never told me anything."

"Then let's go and ask her, she looks like a truthful woman."

The two of them left after Caeser had dressed up. Terra was in the garden picking up some roses.

"Mother." Caeser called from behind her making her prick finger on the thorns of the Rose.

"How are you doing?" she asked turning to look at him as she sucked on her finger.

"I'm fine I need to ask you something important."

"What is it?"

"How did grandfather die?"

"He died of old age." she said quickly but Crow could tell that she was lying,

"Tell us the truth woman. Or else I'll have to take extreme measures." Crow threatened.

"Extreme measures on whose mother?" Caeser asked and Crow silently glared at his master

"Please, we want to know the truth." Ceaser pleaded.

"Why the curiosity all of the sudden?"

"Clause had told me a different story while I was living on Genesis."

"I see and what did he tell you?"

"Something about him having another uncle except Julius who killed his mother and father."

Caeser told his mother the story as well and she laughed.

"Did you believe that?" she asked him.

"I asked him the same thing when he told me." Crow said.

"I was a child mother. Tell us the truth."

"You said Clause told you that you uncle's name was Bethaven. That is not the truth. His name was Tybalt. He killed his mother and father because Caeser did not want him to be king. He had grown up to be a cruel man. That was around the time I was brought here to meet my fiance, Solemn. He had wanted to marry me as well and so did Julius."

"You were a very troublesome woman." Crow commented and she glared at him.

"Shut up. We're here to hear the story. Continue." "Back then there was a law that's stated that the first son to marry was the one to be made King so Tybalt knew that the throne was not his anymore. He had tried to persuade his mother into speaking to Ceaser but she refused saying that he was not suitable and he killed her out of anger. When your grandfatherfather found out, they had a dual and your grandfather was heavily wounded as he was trying to hold back because no matter Tybalt was still his son. But in the end he killed his son and he used that little bit of life that was left in him to carry Sarah to the tombs and they laid together until he died from blood loss. That's it."

"Then why did clause lie to him?" Crow said and Terra replied,"I do not know." Caeser did not say anything and left the two alone in the garden "What is wrong with him now?"

"I do not know. I thought the two of you share some kind of connection. Shouldn't you be able to know."

"Not if he blocks me. I cannot know what he is thinking."

"I see. When was the last time the two of you connected."

"I do not know." Crow answered. tuerra just walked away mumbling to herself,

"I guess you do not know anything at all." Crow rolled his eyes at her retreating figure then he left the garden himself.

That evening the lycan brothers arrived at the palace exhausted from thehe journey. Lucan went to speak to Crow who was sitting in the garden with princess Evirelda who was picking flowers to make a flower crown for her brother. "Why didn't you inform us that he was here?"

"I had no way of communicating with you. What did you expect?" Crow asked,"Where did you go looking?

"We went everywhere and Benjamin was almost killed."

"I will try and communicate the next time."

"So there's the next time."
