Chapter 10
Huguel and Victor are planning to betray Yuri.
That's all Yuri managed to think about while he stared blankly at the ravenet. He wasn't entirely surprised by what he had just overheard, but he did find it strange. He was sure that they wouldn't have dared do something like that.
It's obvious that they're going to do something.
What are they up to?, Yuri asked himself.
He heard his stomach growl and realized that he hadn't eaten anything since yesterday morning, when he had last eaten breakfast. At that point, he had spent the entire day either eating or sleeping. He frowned worriedly and ran a hand through his hair, thinking of a possible solution that could solve this issue. He couldn't go anywhere until nightfall since he was currently residing at home, and he had to spend at least half of today doing chores. He couldn't possibly leave the house to search for food right now. Besides, if he left the house, there was a chance that he might run into his father and Victor. He didn't want to put himself in that kind of danger if he could avoid it.
With a deep sigh, Yuri closed his eyes briefly and took a step backwards before walking away. However, halfway through, he froze mid-step, suddenly realizing that he had left his coat in the room upstairs. He glanced nervously towards the door and wondered if he should just call a maid and ask her to bring his coat. However, he decided against it, figuring that if he waited until after dinner then he may not have a chance to escape before his father caught him leaving. So, he decided to simply take off his jacket and wear it for a little while before returning to the main hall.
when Yuri returned to the hall there was Huguel and Victor and Yuri's Father sitting waiting for him. Huguel gave Yuri a quick smile and stood up from the table, waving him over to join him and Victor at the table. However, Yuri ignored Huguel and went straight to sit next to Victor, who smiled warmly upon seeing him approaching. The blonde noticed, however, that Victor didn't say anything at all regarding what he had overheard earlier. Instead, he leaned back into his seat a little before continuing to eat his dinner in silence. When Huguel finished his food, he walked into the kitchen for a while afterwards to wash up before coming back into the dining hall and sitting next to Victor once more. Victor said nothing about it, which was a relief to Yuri because he really wasn't sure what he would've said anyways.
After dinner was over, everyone retired to their beds to start preparations for bedtime. Yuri remained seated by himself on the ground while
Huguel and Victor went to Yuri
Huguel: Yuri we need to talk outside for a minute
Huguel: You can come with us
Huguel: And please make your mind up
Yuri got up and quickly followed his friends outside. As soon as they arrived outside.
Huguel: well, without further ado, you know we intend to betray you, right?
yuri: yes
Huguel: me and Victor we intended to get rid of you but Victor thought better of it and we decided to take you along with us to command the favela
Huguel: we're gonna teach you our ways
Victor: Yes, we are gonna make you our new leader
Yuri: why do I feel like you're being completely honest and sincere right now
Huguel: because I was always honest
Victor: anyway you will be the third leader of the favela me the second is Huguel the first i.e. he tells us to do something and we do it
Huguel: yes Yuri, you're going to have to leave your home and your family to come with us, that means you're going to come with us, for better or for worse, you choose
Huguel: don't make me repeat myself, son
Yuri nodded in understanding. If he said no, his father and brother would force him to stay home. They weren't too fond of him leaving the manor in general, unless he was accompanying them somewhere or fighting, but even that was rare. The only time they would send Yuri away from home was in order to do something dangerous, which would usually mean training or fighting against an enemy. Usually, these were tasks that they had set themselves. However, Yuri never had the option to choose. They would always decide when it was time to return Yuri to the manor to train.
"Well", he started cautiously. "I'll have to discuss my thoughts first."
Huguel looked slightly disappointed, but Yuri knew that he was relieved to have the decision made for him so that he could move on quickly and leave.
"Alright. What do you think, Victor?" he asked quietly. The older boy shrugged lightly before speaking.
"Honestly, I'm not exactly sure." he replied.
"We'll need to find a way out of here first", Yuri continued. "Then we'll see if it's worth staying here. If it isn't, we should just move on."
"Yeah, that seems reasonable", Victor agreed, nodding slightly. "But what do we tell Yuri' s parents?", he questioned curiously.
Huguel's gaze grew stern again as he looked down at Yuri. His voice sounded almost menacing when he spoke. "They're not going to accept any answer other than that you're getting ready to fight". Yuri gulped as he remembered how angry his parents were with him the first time he had told them that. He was certain that they hadn't spoken to each other since he came back. His father was probably furious at him for sneaking away from the house, whereas his mother was most likely furious at the fact that she hadn't even been allowed to see her precious child. It seemed that they were both upset that their sons hadn' t been able to live peacefully in the city anymore.
And then there was Victor who was obviously concerned by the idea of his parents finding out about what the two of them had planned, even though Yuri had assured him multiple times that it wouldn't happen. But, nonetheless, he had to remain calm in front of his father. There was no reason for Yuri to worry about his father, and he knew it was stupid to fear his wrath. He would definitely try and talk some sense into his father if the man came to bother him, but for now, he just hoped that it would work. He just wanted to get out of there so bad, but knowing his parents...
