At the time, Yuri believed that the girl had fallen in love with one of her stepbrothers, but the girl herself denied that any of her stepsiblings was responsible for her losing her heart, even when the man she'd fell in love with was the same boy who had stolen her brother away from her. She even claimed that he was merely a friend to her stepbrother, and that none of their relationship had ever gone beyond a friendly friendship. Although the girl had never met any of the members of her stepfamily, it seemed as though they were extremely protective of the girl. No matter what the girl had tried doing or said, her brothers and sisters would always be by her side, no matter what. If she ever ran off on her own and got hurt, they would come running to save her and bring her home safely, but otherwise, she'd end up staying with them. This was one of the main reasons why Yuri had grown quite fond of that book since the very first page, even though the author was obviously biased towards the couple (and maybe the girl). He found it rather cute, actually, because the girl had been completely obsessed with the boy. She had spent countless hours imagining herself falling in love with him, only to find out that she didn't deserve the prince that she dreamt about.
Yuri had always known that girls could be rather silly at times, but he had never really considered himself that way. He knew that he was pretty silly, especially when he started to get into trouble for something that he did unintentionally. Nevertheless, he was also smart, even though it sometimes seemed like it wasn't worth mentioning it. For example, whenever he had gotten into a little trouble, the boys who were mean to him had always taken advantage of their position as well. He wasn't as strong as them or as fast, so they had been able to easily overpower him and force him to do whatever they wanted, which, of course, resulted in him breaking some rules or getting kicked out of class or both, although neither of them would tell his father about it, nor admit it. Yuri didn't think that he deserved any of this at all, and honestly didn't think that his fathers deserved what happened to them. They were perfect in the eyes of his father, but they clearly didn't live up to the high standards he set for them.
He knew that he'd never fit in with the other children of noble families, even though the people in his village didn't think that that was possible anymore. Being born to the poorest and most humble people in the world definitely didn't help his situation. He was often bullied and mocked, especially when he would start growing out of his short stature and start becoming more noticeable. He didn't mind all that much, though. He had always enjoyed playing tag and running around. At least then he could pretend that he was part of a bigger group than just himself. But now? Now he would probably never play with other kids again. Not only that, but he wouldn't see any of the other kids in his town anymore because he wouldn't be allowed to visit any of their houses anymore. That was one of the reasons why he had avoided other towns and villages, hoping to avoid running into any of his neighbors during his journey. But unfortunately, the chances that he could have gone unnoticed were incredibly low, considering that it was his third week living here. People would recognize him sooner or later, but hopefully, not anytime soon.
Yuri's daydreaming stopped abruptly though as Victor appeared once again in his doorway.
"Come now,"
Victor take to a school court where João and André are there
Victor turns to Yuri
Victor: It's time to prove your worth
Yuri looking forward is seeing Huguel shirtless looking seriously at Yuri
Victor: you will fight to the death with Huguel today
Huguel looks to Yuri as he does so
Huguel: Do you agree?
Yuri:...Yes,
Huguel nods
Huguel: Okay, let the battle begin!
It was clear that Huguel hadn't been expecting him to agree so quickly.
