Huguel appeared before them
Huguel: hi friend. What's up?
Victor: I'm Victor and this is my son Yuri. We were wondering if you have any advice for us on how to solve a case."
Huguel: Okay! So we've been trying for months to find a lead that led us to an illegal trafficking operation. I don't think anything can be done because no one knows what happened. But since your son is interested in magic, perhaps you could help him with his case?"
Yuuri glared at his grandfather. He couldn't believe what was happening right now. First the cops arrest him for magic and then they ask for help from the most ruthless mob boss in the favela. How does Victor know this guy anyway?
Victor looked at him confused by his hostile attitude but decided not to comment it. Hugo was always mysterious. Maybe he knew someone like that.
"So... how do we begin solving the case? What is the evidence? Where did it happen?" asked Victor curiously.
Huguel gave Victor a big smile. Victor noticed he didn't show much teeth due to his scar. His eyes seemed brighter than usual too. Something definitely changed about him since he last saw him.
"You know there has been rumors going around that there have been new magical artifacts and items that can change the environment and make people disappear."
Victor gasped. Could it be possible? "Is that true?"
Huguel chuckled. "Yes but don't let that scare you. You need to be careful or others will get involved. It's best to follow the rules so no one would be hurt or killed."
"What do you suggest we do exactly?" asked Yuuri who was more eager now. This was finally something to work on.
Huguel pointed at two things with his claw. "First you should get a piece of parchment with the map of Faça Nova drawn on it." He handed Victor a piece of paper with a map. "Secondly you need to collect as many clues as possible as well as samples of the magic users' blood."
Victor nodded. They both left to go buy those.
They walked into town hand in hand, looking for clues. They had already gotten some money for their research project but this was the first time they were really looking for evidence.
"I wish I had a camera!" said Yuuri excitedly after they had walked for some hours without finding even a single clue.
"Me too!" replied Victor enthusiastically. "It was such an amazing day! Do you want to go for ice cream after this?"
He had already forgotten his anger and was just happy to have Victor back with him.
Yuuri blushed slightly. "Yeah I'd love to..." he mumbled.
Victor squeezed his hand reassuringly. "We'll catch a train to Santa Teresa tomorrow. It's going to be fun! We can meet Phichit and Guang Hong and maybe see Yurio again. You're still coming along right?"
"Of course, I wouldn't miss this opportunity for the world."
Victor smiled and took his hand off of his. "Let's go eat, we don't want to spoil our appetite tonight."
"Okay, just give me a second to put my stuff back in my bag."
Both stopped walking and looked at each other for a few moments. "Wait a minute, why don't you come with us? We can go pick up food for you."
Yuuri felt his face warming up.
"Oh, I'd love that!" He exclaimed excitedly and went to retrieve his backpack.
When they arrived at the ice cream parlor, Victor immediately started eating while staring at Yuuri over the top of the bowl. Yuuri laughed and looked away bashfully.
After finishing dinner Victor offered to pay for it. They sat in the park nearby, enjoying each other's company and eating some cookies.
"You know," began Victor between bites, "If we met during normal days we wouldn' be here now, wouldn't you say? I mean, we live together, you study for law, I work at the radio station, you're getting ready for college, you're living with your family and I'm living with mine. But instead of going to classes, I'm studying magic at the university where I work. So it seems like fate brought us to where we are right now."
Yuuri thought for a moment. "You know what, it does seem like destiny. Even though I know it's probably just a coincidence. If anything I think it's a sign from heaven saying, 'Go ahead and fall in love with the man.' "
Victor chuckled. "I'm sure it's not. But if destiny wants you to meet me I guess this must be what it's trying to tell you to do."
He smiled when he realized they were holding hands again. He didn't mind if they were holding hands.
They finished their cookie and Victor paid the bill. Then they walked down the street towards home. The sun was setting and they stopped to watch it. The whole world seemed calm for once. Yuuri couldn't remember the last time he was like this. He didn't want it to end and soon he realized that they were already in front of the apartment building.
