"Why did he stop?" Aurora kept wondering why Sage had stopped when he was just a little bit to claim her. She groaned and rolled on her bed. It was morning but she felt herself drawing closer to her bed. She felt weak and tired thinking of Sage. He wouldn't claim her. Was he having fun with her conscience? She had agreed to be his boyfriend which was an arduous decision she'd made and yet, he wouldn't show his love to her as he'd promised.
Was he lying all along? Or he remembered she wasn't his mate. His mother has appeared, does it mean, she didn't want Sage to claim her all because she wasn't his mate?
A drop of water fell from the core of her eyes. Why was her's different? She couldn't have a mate, yet, she wouldn't be mated to anyone. Was that all she had gotten from denying her mate who would kill her the minute he claimed her?
With a heavy heart, she stood up and went to her dresser, looking into the mirror at her reflector. Her eyes had protruded since she'd cried over the night after being stung by Sage.
She moved from her dresser and headed for her washroom. It was fine if Sage wouldn't claim her. She knew it would be hard to find someone who tries to love her but, Sage was an idiot. He had made a fake promise and she was being stupid to have believed him.
After doing the girl stuff, she wore a dress with the thought of staying home all day and then preparing some lectures for the academy later in the dusk. She looked through her phone to see piles of messages from Fennick telling her he'll visit in a few hours. She heaved a heavy sigh. Thank goodness she still had her best friend.
Sora wasn't home and she was happy. She didn't want her grandmother to start questioning her about what has happened to her. Her hands swept over her shoulder and she flinched as she touched the small bite of Sage.
She settled down on the couch after grabbing a sandwich prepared from the kitchen. She put on the TV and started to watch shows she felt would eliminate her thoughts from Sage.
Eventually, she slept off and woke up an hour later when Fennick knocked on her cottage door. "It's Fennick, open up," he told her. She groaned and stretched weariedly before staggering towards the door. She pulled it open and trotted away leaving Fennick to himself.
Fennick groaned seeing how wobbled she walked, after falling to the ground if he wasn't quick enough to reach her into his arms. "Rora? Are you okay?" He inquired and probed her onto the couch. "Talk to me," he mumbled and peck her forehead.
"Why can't I mate with someone else?" She asked shockingly to Fennick, "He wouldn't claim me," she mumbled to his amazement.
"What do you mean?" He implored gazing largely at her closed eyes.
Aurora slowly placed her head on her shoulder and interlock his fingers with hers. "I tried not to get him off my mind but I can't. We just met some days ago and I'm so attracted to him when he isn't my mate, What's wrong with me?"
"What are you talking about?" Fennick enquired not grasping what she meant and who she was talking about.
She sniffled her tears and cleared her eyes, raised her head from his shoulder and curved a smile on her face that came out faintly.
"You're not saying anything, Rora, tell me what's wrong?"
"I'll be fine," She mumbled and tried to stand up but Fennick pulled her back to sit down, clasped her shoulder and made her face him.
"Tell me, you aren't talking about Beta's son, I told that idiot not to hurt you!" Fennick growled at her face.
However, Aurora shook her head, "He's not at fault. I'll be fine, I promise," she assured and nudged his hands away from her, winning a groan from him.
"So you can't tell me anything that's bothering you again?"
"Fine!" She snapped, "Yesterday Sage was about to claim me then he stopped, I don't know why but I feel sick that he stopped even when he's got his mate!"
"You can't be f**king serious. You want him to claim you? I thought you just met!" Fennick snarled. How could she want him to claim her after some days of their meeting? It was absurd.
Aurora bent her head over to her lap and continued whimpering, "I know Fennick. Now I feel I am a jerk."
Fennick let his hands pat her back. She was right to feel that way. He had always wished she would find someone just as good as he wanted and he was sure Sage would be a better match but it shouldn't be too soon for him to start claiming her. Their love hasn't gotten intense. "Do you still want him?" He inquired.
Nodding her head, she replied, "Yes."
"Then it's a good thing he isn't claiming you now," he mumbled to her.
Later in the evening|
The academy was already filled with shifters from each region and it was time to have a combined class when the King's arrival was announced. Everyone cheered and excitement filled the tall building.
"Your highness!" They all bowed in respect.
"Make yourself comfortable," King Cowell uttered and waved for them to have their seat as he also settled on the crown chair provided. A few of his associates, high courts and elders also walked in with him. After they had all settled down, the King began his speech, "I'm here to inform you about what happened some days ago." He started, "A member of the neighbourhood pack, the Autumn pack was here to trade when he came across his mate," he paused to see the reactions on their faces and he was right, the news had passed on and most of them already knew what he was talking about.
He made a slight cough and continued, "However, his mate has been claimed by another mate from our pack and a fight has erupted. We then received a threat from their Alpha, so, Beta Craig suggested we go to the king and plead. I took in the suggestion which was our only option and I assigned the head of the Gamma, Rae with other brave fighters to visit the Autumn pack. Unfortunately, on their way back, they were attacked by assassins." He uttered and murmurs filled the building as they began to confide that Autumn's pack could have sent the assassins.
"Alpha Huston is still on the threat that the boy's mate should be given to him, whereas the girl refused to return to her mate. Then, I decided that the boy should come and pick out any mate from our pack who is interested in him." He revealed.
The hall became quiet, like that of a graveyard. It was a wise decision for the King to have made but who was willing to mate with the boy?
