Chapter 22 - An Attack

Elysia was puzzled at Trustin's gesture. She was still not used to his strange behavior at random times. Trustin could sense her awkwardness and slowly moved away on the couch.

"Why are you being so kind to me?" Elysia couldn't help but ask, but she soon realized how absurd the question was!

"Why? You say?" Trustin made her look at him and said, "Because in this world no one deserves kindness from me, but you are different."

Elysia looked into his eyes and tried to find out what he meant. But she was not good at reading people and her past experiences were the biggest reason.

"Do not look at me with such a dubious expression in your eyes. I have never been this sincere to anyone other than my mother," Tustin said and waited for the doubts in her eyes to fade. But before that, his cell phone rang, and the moment they were about to share were all shattered.

"Eli, this is an important call, I must take it." Trustin stood up from the couch and walked away, leaving troubled Elysia alone in the living room.

After all the things she had been through, she was not ready to trust anyone. No matter how good Trustin was to her, she was still doubtful of him. However, she wondered whether she had trust issues in herself or the people around her.

She kept contemplating for a long time and ended up falling asleep on the couch. She woke up with the sound of her phone and saw it was a message.

"You slept for more than four hours," Trustin said as he looked at his watch.

"Why did you not wake me up?" Elysia asked as she brushed her hair with her fingers.

"I could not disturb you. Since it's already late, let's stay here for the night." He suggested and then walked to the kitchen to see if they can have something. But when he opened the refrigerator, it was empty.

Elysia had still to reply when he walked out of the kitchen and stated, "There is nothing to eat here, I will go and purchase something to eat."

Before Elysia could answer him, he was already out of the house, "What? Who wants to live with him here? And all alone on top of that?" She rubbed her hands and stood up from the couch, only to notice that her legs felt numb from sitting for a long time in the same position.

"Ouch!" She exclaimed and sat back on the couch.

She kept rubbing her feet when she heard the door open. She frowned and wondered if Trustin changed his mind to stay there. However, when Trustin did not come to the living room, she spoke.

"Who's there? Trustin, are you back?" Elysia was still struggling with her numb legs when she heard another sound. Before she could grasp the situation, two men in black appeared before her and startled her.

"W-who are you?" Elysia stuttered as her body glued to the couch. Her whole body trembled in fear to find the two strange, unknown men in front of her. The clothes they had put on were strange. She had never seen such dresses before. They both had put on the round-collared black robes with golden borders. The trousers were loose and their hair was of shoulder length.

"Your question should not be who we are, instead it should be, will we kill you?" The man on the left asked. He took out a silver dagger and said, "If you want an instant death, you will be dead in just a blow. But if you want a slow death, I can slice you or just peel your skin limb by limb and cut off your body parts, and present it to your dear husband."

Elysia was shocked to hear those terrifying words. Who were those strange men?

"Let's go with the former one. Master does not believe in a blood bath to happen," the man on the right said as he took the dagger from the man on his left and pointed it at Elysia's neck.

"You see, we have no bad air between us. But the moment you married into the Hunter family, you became our prey," he affirmed with a smirk. Elysia found out his focus was not on her, so she gathered her courage and pushed the man away. She ran as fast as she could. Her heart was running wildly against her chest and she shouted for Trustin.

Elysia had no idea where she had run to and ended up landing in the kitchen. She quickly pulled out the kitchen drawer and took out the long kitchen knife to protect herself.

Both the men stood on either side of hers and asked her to put the knife down.

"I won't!" Elysia had no idea how she suddenly became this powerful to fight against two men. She told them not to step forward and kept showing them the long knife.

The man on her right took a long stride to her and attacked her with the dagger, but she succeeded in dodging it. The man on her left tried to catch her, but she jumped to the other side of the counter and ran outside. Tears had welled up in her eyes. She shouted for Trustin from top of her lungs. What was happening in her house!? She never encountered such brutal assassins.

Her toes tangled in the rug of the living room and she ended up falling with a huge force. The knife fell from her hand and moved far on the marble floor. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she turned around.

She gasped for air to see both the men in front of her. "Please don't kill me," she pleaded this time.

"We have no time to play," the first guy said and dashed in her direction. He looked at Elysia. He pulled her up by grabbing her throat and said, "It would have been fun to use the latter option, but time is limited for us," he proclaimed and was ready to slit her throat. She whined in pain and tried to get released from his grip.

"Bam!" A strong punch landed on his face and he was thrown to the wall behind him. Elysia fell to the floor. Trustin quickly got on his knees and asked Elysia if she was fine.

Luckily, Trustin was not far from the house. He heard Elysia's scream even though the distance was more than a few hundreds of meters between him and the house. Also, he had an ominous feeling developing inside him.

His hunch proved right, when he saw how a strange man was strangling his wife. That was the moment he could not control himself, and used his wolf strength to knock the man away. His eyes turned golden with sharp glare. He tilted his head and gazed at the other one, who was ready to attack him.

However, the man who had hit the wall stopped him and told him that they should run away. Trustin wanted to kill the two instantly, but Elysia's safety was his priority. He had to make sure she would remain safe.

When those men ran away, Trustin again turned to look at Elysia, who already had stood up.

"Wh-who were those people? Why did they want to hurt me?" Elysia asked. She was still trembling in fear. Her knee got a bruise because of the fall and the tears did not stop flowing.

Before Trustin could answer her, she landed in his arms and he found she had fainted.
