Chapter 19 - The Lingering Regret

As we ran we continued to run towards the entrance I kept on hearing the words demon duo. I figured that everyone wanted to keep away from me to avoid provoking me at any cost. The same went for Nicola. While it felt pretty good, I also understood that my days in the squad would be rather lonely because I wouldn't have any friends. This brought back some memories. I tried to forget them. Soon we reached the entrance. There was a building in the middle of the stadium. Did they set it up in a mere 2 hours? It was very spacious for us 256 future annihilators. The seats were named. I searched for mine but I couldn't spot it. I kept on going forward. Ah! There it was! It was at the frontmost spot. Well, I guess that made sense. Nicola's table was right next to mine but a few inches behind.

I sneered at her for this.

"Just wait! We'll see who's really better after this trial is over"

"Yes, we will. And everyone will know who the real demon is"

She smiled at me sarcastically. It was extremely annoying. I was determined to score the highest. As usual, Miss Carsalina came forward and distributed the papers. They were faced towards the table. After a few minutes, Miss Carsalina finished distributing them to everyone and went to the rear side of the hall and said,

"You can start the test now. Any sort of cheating would disqualify you and you will lose your rights to become an annihilator!"

I immediately turned the page. It had several questions about different races. Thankfully my dad preached them to me every day during practice. I easily answered most of them. But then I saw this question.

In case your annihilator team met a crisis, what would you do?

This brought up several bad memories. Not that I was an annihilator before, it's just that I had to face a similar situation with my friends on Earth. Well, let's not talk about that right now. As for the answer, I wrote:

I would fight with them till the end!

After a while, the test was over. It was much easier than I expected it to be. The results came out. I and Nicola obviously passed. The ninja dude also passed. However, the giant had failed. I guess that's what you call a muscle head. So he was now a D rank. But I daresay that he was the strongest D rank in this batch.

Then Miss Carsalina announced the top three highest candidates in this trial.

"Nicola Brownwitch scored 93 taking third place"

I and Nicola looked at each other and mouthed third? We continued to listen.

"Tony Schleider scored 95 taking 2nd place"

"Christina Geoginston scored…"

She looked at the examiners doubtfully. They nodded at her. She nodded back at them. I didn't get what was going on. I looked for Christina and spotting her was quite easy because she was the center of attention right now. She was blond and had a very fair complexion. She was about half a foot shorter than me. Miss Carsalina cleared her throat and continued.

"Christina Geoginston scored full marks taking…first place"
