Chereads / I BECAME THE VILLAIN OF A NOVEL / Chapter 17 - Not my friend.

Chapter 17 - Not my friend.

On the 16th day, under the glow of the early dawn of the summer month of May; the next light after the twenty-four hour period of the registration; Kendra and Faye head to the Department of Information and Security.

The duo walk side by side with their arms hooked together, wearing similar uniforms with other students wandering randomly in the campus. The uniforms in Mystic Academy are all the same no matter the gender; this is in order to encourage students to treat each other equally.

A red coat and white shirt with buttons in the front, dark pants with laces, leather belt, brown boots reaching just below the knees. No matter who or what background a student has; they all need to wear the same uniforms as others inside the academy.

At the moment the duo set foot into the building, the brunette haired girl turned to Kendra with an inquiring gaze. "By the way, you haven't told me who we are looking for, you know, the name of your mysterious friend that you're searching all this time?" Faye said, brimming with curiosity.

Kendra casted a glance to her side and saw the curious light green eyes on the other party. Yesterday, Kendra didn't explain much about the situation to Faye, and the brunette girl must have misunderstood Kendra's intentions of finding Nasrin's whereabouts.

So Kendra then opened her lips to explain. "Actually, that person isn't my friend, Faye…she's just someone I met yesterday on the registration lane," Kendra replied, explaining each word slowly.

Faye furrowed her brows in confusion. "Then why are you looking for her?"

"To return the favor I received," Kendra said simply. Like there's no other meaning behind it, but the raised lips in Kendra's face tells otherwise.

On the other hand, Faye seemed to have become enlightened; she nodded her head trying to suppress her lips from forming into a knowing smile. "I see, I see," Faye mumbled.

Kendra frowned because it doesn't seem Faye understood. Faye had an enthusiastic expression on her face as if asking for gossip. "Really?" Kendra probed.

"Yes, of course I understand," Faye hurriedly said in a defensive tone.

Kendra falls into contemplation; she needs to prevent Faye from getting the wrong idea. Kendra can't allow the brunette haired girl to become involved with her affairs again. Kendra refused to let those agonising memories happen twice.

Her perfectly shaped eyebrows knitted together, squinting the lids of her eyes as she peered those solemn ocean blue at the brunette haired girl. "Faye, she isn't my friend, that person is not my friend, do you understand?" Kendra repeated in a very serious tone; in order to make the other party understand that she is not kidding.

Faye didn't seem to mind Kendra's sombre expression; her face still bloomed with springs and flowers under those winter chilling gaze of Kendra, smiling brightly regardless of Kendra's stern aura.

"Don't worry, my friend, I really do understand," Faye said with a meaningful smile, then she giggled to herself; like she just remembered something really funny.

Kendra can't comprehend her friend's expression. Faye had this appearance that seemed to understand yet not understand her meaning.

"Anyway, are you sure she told you her real name?" Faye asked suddenly; her tone is full of inquiries as if fishing for ambiguous gossip.

Kendra nodded warily, becoming even more dubious of Faye's funny intonation. "Yes, I'm sure, so don't think too much about it, and don't assume that she's my friend because she's not, do you understand me, Faye?"

Faye's mysterious smile deepened. "Of course," Faye said as she walked backwards, facing Kendra as she sauntered her legs in reverse. "I really really do understand, my friend."

Kendra squinted the lids of her eyes in suspicion, probing the other party. "Really? You're not musing any funny notions, are you?"

Faye giggled. "My friend, you wound me, what are you imagining I would muse about other than what you're implying, hmm?"

Kendra rolled her eyes exasperated, which made the brunette haired girl let out a teasing tune of laughter.

The duo were sauntering on the passageway, and when they reached the corner, a tall golden-blonde girl suddenly appeared bumping into Faye's body. The brunette haired girl tripped on her feet, stumbling and falling backwards.

Kendra didn't have the time to check the face of the person who bumped with Faye. Her only thought was to rescue her falling friend. Kendra's long legs rush to Faye's side in order to support her friend to stand, but someone else beats her to it.

Long blonde hair, emerald green eyes, and fair white skin. The long arms of the princess hug the brunette haired girl's waist, supporting Faye to stand. As if love struck at first sight, those emerald eyes got lost in those fresh forest of Faye's light green eyes and fell into a deep trance.

Kendra held her breath seeing this scene in front of her, because this scene also happened to her and the scumbag princess in those memories. Except the one on the princess' arms now was Faye instead of Kendra.

Suddenly, Kendra's thoughts became complicated as she watched the two stare at each other's eyes. Kendra felt a premonition that Faye will now become officially involved in the whole situation again.

"Ahem."

Someone suddenly coughs loudly, getting their attention as the three of them glance at the person who clears her throat.

A 5 feet 9 inches tall slender figure, wearing the academy's uniform and a black choker on her neck, came into sight behind the scumbag princess.

Those light brown eyes first went to meet the ocean blue eyes of Kendra, and for a while, the two only gaze at each other. Neither one spoke yet their eyes held a lot of words, speaking all kinds of emotions.

[Found you.] Kendra subconsciously thought; her lips raised into a light smile when she saw the familiar face of Nasrin. The person she had been searching for all this time.

[It turns out that Nasrin is still Nasrin.] Kendra thought to herself.

Even in those memories, Nasrin always followed the princess around like a tail. Kendra discovered that even this time, Nasrin was still obsessed with the princess.

Kendra's deep blue eyes concealed her hatred for these two in front of her. Still, on the surface, Kendra made sure that she looked friendly and polite.

Nasrin, on the other hand, had that awkward smile plastered on her face. "Is anyone hurt?"

For some reason, Kendra feels that Nasrin seems to be asking her as those light brown eyes look at her in concern, but Kendra soon erases this idea.

[There's no way that Nasrin would look at me in concern.] Kendra told herself in her head.

She retracted her deep blue eyes from Nasrin's face; Kendra needed to prioritise Faye's health status first. At these thoughts, Kendra ignored Nasrin, going to the brunette girl.

"Faye, are you alright?" Kendra said, pulling Faye to her side; her ocean blue eyes roamed to Faye's body, checking if her friend got hurt.

Faye blinked her eyes and brightly smiled. "I'm fine," then she stared at the princess' emerald eyes and asked, "how about you?"

The princess seemed to be still under the illusion of love as she didn't respond, and instead, her emerald eyes sparkled, staring at Faye's light green eyes.

Nasrin shook her head helplessly as she also pulled the princess to her side and said, "this fool is also fine, don't worry," then she glanced at Kendra and politely said, "hi Kendra."

"Hello Nasrin," Kendra replied in a friendly tone, staring at the light brown eyes of Nasrin.

Again. For some reason, Kendra feels weird seeing those light brown eyes. Like the only person that Nasrin sees is Kendra. And that thought made Kendra feel strange.

Faye, on the other hand, curved her lips in a meaningful smile; she noticed the two seem to be lost in each other's gazes. Faye then waved her palm in front of Nasrin and said, "hi, I'm Kendra's friend and roommate, Faye Truman."

Nasrin glanced at Kendra first before she took Faye's hand and shook it lightly. "Hi Faye, nice to meet you, I'm Nasrin, and…" then she retracted her hand, pointing at the golden-blonde girl beside her and said, "this one is my roommate, Cliopatra."

When Kendra heard what Nasrin said, Kendra was shocked in her heart. As far as she can remember, Cliopatra will become an alpha, so Nasrin becoming a roommate with Cliopatra would only mean one thing for her. Nasrin would also transition to an alpha. That's the only possible answer. After all, undifferentiated alpha, omega, or beta can't become roommates with other genders. So it could only mean that Nasrin is going to become an alpha in the future.

That sudden news stupefied Kendra from the depths of her calm soul.

However, Kendra's years of experience of having a poker smile face concealed the surprise she felt in her heart.

Nasrin, who was oblivious of Kendra's thoughts, taps Cliopatra on the shoulder, which snaps the princess out of the trance.

Cliopatra then stared at the brunette haired girl, lifting the fingers of the stun girl, planting her royal lips at the back of Faye's hand. "I'm Princess Cliopatra Kingsley, it's my pleasure to meet you, Lady Faye of the Truman Knights," Cliopatra said in a chivalrous manner.

Faye gazes at Cliopatra in a daze. "Oh, it's my pleasure to meet you too, Princess," Faye said, taking back her hand to her side with an awkward smile.

Cliopatra nodded, satisfied with Faye's reaction to her stinky tricks. She then turned to Kendra, and with an inquiring emerald eyes, the princess said, "and you are?"

"Kendra Salamanca," Kendra answered simply with a smile on her face.

The moment she saw Cliopatra's face again, Kendra felt nothing but endless resentment, but on the surface, she plastered a friendly facade.

Cliopatra squinted her eyes and said, "hmm, I don't seem to have heard of your family name, oh well, meeting a beautiful lady would always be my pleasure."

After that, Cliopatra approached Kendra, attempting to take Kendra's hand to kiss it too, but Kendra took a step back.

This made the princess raise her eyebrow at Kendra, scrutinising Kendra up and down. Regardless, Kendra kept her calm smile.

[No one would be able to know which is which in the academy; everyone wears the same uniform.] Kendra thought jeeringly. So no matter how much Cliopatra scrutinised Kendra with those prideful emerald eyes, Cliopatra would discover…nothing.

However, if this scumbag dares to lay a hand on her, Kendra swears that she would definitely teach this bastard a lesson.

Clenching her jaw, feeling that royal ego got hurt; the princess moved her legs again, approaching Kendra once more with much arrogance than earlier. But, before the princess was able to step one foot forward, Nasrin already pulled Cliopatra away.

"Sorry about this brat," Nasrin said, staring at Kendra with an embarrassed smile.

Cliopatra sneered, looking at Nasrin. "Who are you calling a brat, you moron?"

Nasrin ignored Cliopatra as she kept her gaze on Kendra. "Well, the brat and I still have somewhere we need to go, so we'll be on our way now," Nasrin said, grabbing Cliopatra on her red coat's collar, pulling the princess away.

"Stop pulling my collar, you're embarrassing me, you stupid Oaf…!" Cliopatra sneered in a whispering tone; her face getting red looking ashamed as she averted her eyes from Faye's amused face.

"Stop struggling then," Nasrin replied, looking annoyed, still dragging Cliopatra's coat as they disappeared on the corner.

Kendra watched with cold eyes as the two faded in her sight. After seeing Nasrin again, Kendra was sure that Nasrin had indeed returned to the past, but despite knowing this, Kendra still felt that she was missing something. Especially after she discovered that Nasrin will also become an alpha.

There is something about Nasrin that always made Kendra feel like…

Like she was talking to a different person.

Those warm sunny eyes until now seem to appear clear with no hostility and malice. Every time Kendra would look into those eyes, she would always feel like she wasn't talking to Nasrin but to a different person.

Kendra frowned as her thoughts became more complicated.

Faye glanced ambiguously at Kendra. "So, Is she that person…" Faye inquired, curving her lips with a knowing smile. "I mean, Nasrin, Is she…" Faye uttered, prolonging each syllable.

"She's not my friend, Faye," Kendra interrupted as she rolled her eyes.

Faye shrugs with teasing curvy lips. "If you say so…"

However, the meaningful smile on her friend's face made Kendra feel that Faye doesn't believe what she said.

Kendra released a sigh, choosing to ignore the brunette haired girl instead. "Let's go back," Kendra muttered.

Faye followed and walked beside Kendra. Only in front of Faye would Kendra let her guard down and show her true self, because Kendra knows that Faye wouldn't mind it.

The two head back to their dorm discussing to each other about their conversation with Nasrin. Mostly, the conversation is just about Faye trying to sell Nasrin's strong aesthetic points to Kendra.
