Chapter 18 - Teasing in tunes.

The sky is bright, and the light of the sun is friendly. Wind is humming, while the birds are chirping, and the campus is bustling. Students crowding randomly on the field. Wandering as they laugh and talk to their friends.

The Mystic Academy's campus today is harmonious, and so is the duo walking together. The brunette girl had a teasing cheerful smile, and the other one had a grim face, rubbing her temples as she sighed in dread.

"Your friend is cute, isn't she?" Faye whispered in Kendra's ears, making Kendra frown as she pursed her lips.

"For the last time, Nasrin isn't my friend," Kendra muttered exasperated.

Faye covered her mouth as she gasped, "oops…"

Kendra rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I'm going to the library, how about you?"

"Of course I'm going with you," Faye replied in a matter of fact tone, smiling brightly to herself.

Kendra nodded with a light smile. "Alright, let's go."

At that, they both sauntered their legs, talking to each other as they walked slowly to the library. Other students who they pass would always peek a glance or a few more at the two oblivious duo. Mostly, the ones who would stare are those alpha students.

Yet, the duo have their own world; not paying much attention to their surroundings as they converse with each other.

"Hold on," Faye gasped as she suddenly stopped with an enlightened face.

Kendra glances at Faye with a puzzled face. "What? Did you forget something?"

Faye nodded as she stared at Kendra with a solemn face.

Seeing the seriousness of her friend's expression, Kendra becomes solemn too. "Is it something important?"

"Yes," Faye replied instantly as she nodded. "Very important."

Kendra knitted her brows. "Let's go take it back then," she said as she turned around.

But Faye stops Kendra, grabbing Kendra's shoulder. So Kendra turns her head to Faye with an inquiring gaze. "Come on, let's go and take whatever it is, where did you last see it?"

Faye shook her head as she replied, "no, it's not an object."

"A person?" Kendra asked, bewildered. "Who is it?"

"Perhaps, but no…" Faye answered as she shakes her head again. "Not a person as well."

"Then what is it? Stop playing mind games, Faye," Kendra muttered, sighing at her friend's antics. "If it's important, then let's go and take it back."

"It's about our conversation," Faye confessed with a serious look.

Seeing Faye's seriousness once more, Kendra also turns solemn. "And what about it?" Kendra inquired, then she furrowed her brows, feeling that something was weird. "Wait, why are we even talking about our conversation earlier?"

Slowly, Faye curves her lips into a teasing smile. "I didn't mention Nasrin's name, Kendra."

"What are you talking about?" Kendra replied flabbergasted and confused.

Faye's teasing smile didn't falter; instead, it only deepened more as she continued. "Earlier, I said," Faye started, then she clears her throat mimicking her teasing energetic voice earlier. "Your friend is cute, isn't she?"

Kendra hangs her mouth open in disbelief, staring blankly at Faye, watching dumbfounded as her friend reenacts their conversation earlier.

However, Faye still continued. "And you replied…"

Kendra only gazes calmly at Faye, feeling her earlobes growing hot. She already knew what Faye was going to do next. Feeling embarrassed, Kendra covered half of her eyes, peeking on her other eye.

Still, Faye continues as she clears her throat, trying to mimic Kendra's euphonious annoyed voice earlier. "For the last time, Nasrin isn't my friend," Faye muttered exasperated, then she smiled at Kendra teasingly. "That's what you said, Kendra."

"And what are you trying to say?" Kendra replied in a calm manner, but the slight high pitch tone in Kendra's voice made Faye giggle teasingly even more.

Kendra bit her bottom lip as she felt her ears turn slightly hot, feeling embarrassed.

"Nothing, my friend." Faye clasped her hand together behind her back as she continued to walk in a hopping manner, then she glanced back at Kendra. "Let's go to the library?"

Kendra rolled her eyes, sighing as she followed Faye humming tunes to herself.

"L is for the way you look at me," Faye sings, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively at Kendra.

Kendra turned a deaf ear as she continued to walk, ignoring Faye singing to her ears.

But Faye didn't mind Kendra ignoring her as she continued to hum the song. "O is for the only one I see, V is very very…" Faye glanced at Kendra as she continued with a teasing smile, "...extraordinary."

Kendra groaned as she facepalm, listening to Faye singing and teasing her all the way to the library. [Someone stopped her.]

By the time the duo arrive in the library, Faye plastered a cheerful smile as she had already sung twelve different songs, while Kendra had a sour expression on her face all those time as she listened to Faye tease her with Nasrin.

Walking to the shelves, Kendra went to the highest floor as she started reading to calm her annoyance from Faye. Meanwhile, as if sensing Kendra's irritation, Faye shuts her mouth as she remains silent, sitting beside Kendra on the floor, leaning her back on the shelf.

On the other hand, Kendra started reading in silence. But her mind is not as quiet as her surrounding environment. Kendra feels upset; her friend has greatly misunderstood her.

The world will go upside down and end first before Kendra becomes Nasrin's friend; nor anything else. No matter what, Kendra won't ever have any kind or sorts of relationship with Nasrin. Never!

First of all, Nasrin is an enemy. Someone who is not only an aristocrat, but also someone that Kendra deeply hates; Nasrin is in Kendra's list, and the only way to erase Nasrin's name in that list is through revenge. So Kendra doesn't like how Faye is teasing her with Nasrin.

However, Kendra wouldn't blame Faye. After all, Faye doesn't know the real score between her and Nasrin. It's just that Kendra is worried that Faye might get mixed with everything again, especially with how Faye already got herself acquainted with both Cliopatra and Nasrin.

"Psst, Kendra…!" Faye called quite loudly.

Kendra sighed as she took her eyes away from the book then she glanced at Faye. "What is it?"

Faye didn't answer, and instead, she beckoned for Kendra to look at a certain someone sitting on the corner. Kendra furrowed her brows as she followed where Faye was staring at.

There she was; the person who has been invading Kendra's mind lately; sitting alone in the corner with a pile of books surrounding her; her light brown eyes were concentrated on a grade 1 elementary book.

[Wait, grade 1 book?] Kendra asked herself in disbelief, squinting the lids of her eyes on the book.

"It's Nasrin," Faye whispered.

"I know," Kendra muttered.

"Look, she's alone, should we approach her?" Faye asked suggestively.

Kendra shakes her head. "No, she probably went here alone, so she could read alone, Faye. So we shouldn't disturb her."

Faye shrugs. "If you say so."

Kendra sighed. Ever since Faye met Nasrin, her friend has been growing weird around her lately. It's not good; if Faye becomes friends with Nasrin, then things might repeat the way they did similar to what happened in Kendra's original timeline. Kendra can't let that happen.

At that, Kendra stood up. "Let's go."

"Where are we going?" Faye questioned, following after Kendra.

"Let's go back to our dorm," Kendra said as she walked to the shelf, where she took the book in her hand.

"What? But there's nothing to do in our dorm," Faye whined, then her lips curved to a smile. "Anyway, forget about the dorm, tell me why do you want to leave so suddenly?"

Kendra's face turned grim as she stood in front of the shelf; Kendra moved her lips open and was about to answer, but the book on the other side of the shelf was suddenly picked, revealing Nasrin's panicked expression as she hurriedly put the book back.

Kendra's heart thumped as she felt worried. [Did she see my face?]

Kendra frowns, pursing her lips. She can't let her true self be exposed to Nasrin yet. At least not until Kendra finally probes all the secrets that Nasrin is hiding.

Seeing the book on the other side being picked again, Kendra hurriedly fixed her face, plastering a friendly smile.

Waving at the flustered face of the other party on the other side of the shelf, Kendra concluded that Nasrin must not have seen her true self.

At that, Kendra's smile became more amiable.

"Hi, what are you doing here?" Kendra asked; like she was just having a conversation to a long time friend that she just saw for the first time.

Nasrin stretches her lips into an awkward smile. "Uhm, uh, ahem," Nasrin cleared her throat then she continued. "I'm reading, what about you?"

"I'm reading too," Kendra replied, smiling as she probed every inch of Nasrin's face; studying and learning Nasrin's reaction and expression.

"Oh," Nasrin mouthed as her light brown eyes became fixed on staring at Kendra's deep blue one.

Seeing that Nasrin became silent, Kendra lightly elbowed her good friend standing beside her. It seems Faye got the message as she hurriedly peeked her eyes between the hole on the shelf, coughing to get Nasrin's attention.

"Ahem, hi Nasrin, I'm here as well," Faye said with a smile.

Nasrin chuckled awkwardly. "Hi Faye, sorry didn't notice you were there," Nasrin replied with a stretch smile.

Faye still smiled and said, "oh, it's fine, don't worry about it, anyway, do you have anyone with you?"

Nasrin shook her head at her. "No, I didn't bring Cliopatra with me, so I'm alone right now," she answered back, as friendly as Faye.

"Really? You could join us if you want, right Kendra?" Said Faye, glancing at Kendra expectantly.

Kendra's mouth twitches hearing what Faye said, but she still nodded her head with a pleasant smile.

Faye smiled brightly as she turned to look at Nasrin expectantly; Kendra also waited for Nasrin to reject her and Faye.

Nasrin smiled wryly as she grabbed the back of her neck in a somewhat awkward manner, staring at the duo for a while.

"Well?" Faye urged.

"Alright," Nasrin replied finally as she lowered her head slightly, looking embarrassed as she asked, "then…I'll just…go over there?"

"No, we'll just go over there," Faye said assuringly. "Wait for us."

Afterwards, Faye pulled Kendra with her to a distance from where Nasrin is.

"Listen Kendra," Faye started with a serious face.

Kendra narrowed her eyes in suspicion, feeling that her friend was up to something again. "What…?"

"I seem to have really forgotten something," Faye mumbled.

"All of a sudden?" Kendra replied, dubious.

Faye nodded solemnly. "Yes, all of a sudden."

Kendra knitted her brows. "What about Nasrin? You invited her then you…"

"We invited her," Faye corrected with a smile. "So while I'm away, and It will probably take me a long time, I'll probably not even make it back by then, so what I'm trying to say is…"

Kendra's face turns grim. "You mean, you're leaving me…" Kendra pointed to herself then to the other side of the shelf, "...with her?"

Faye nodded slowly. "Well?"

Kendra sighed. "No," she said, shaking her head. "I'm going back to the dorm."

"No, you can't," Faye replied, stopping Kendra from leaving.

"Why not?" Kendra raises her brow.

Faye sighed as she took a step back slowly. "You just can't, alright? Come on, Kendra, you can't let her wait too long…I'll see you later," Faye said, waving goodbye as she hurriedly escaped.

"Faye…!" Kendra called, but the brunette girl seemed to have become deaf.

At that, Kendra groaned as she rubbed the side of her temple, then she glanced at the shelf; on the other side is her nemesis waiting for her patiently.

[Can't imagine how ridiculous that sounds.] Kendra thought as she walked slowly to the other side of the shelf, looking at the thin frail back of the black haired girl, standing tall as she fidgets with her long slender legs, reading the book upside down.

Seeing the awkward person waiting for her to arrive, Kendra thought it was funny. Without her knowing it, the edge of her lips raised, staring amusely at Nasrin.

Kendra raised her hand absentmindedly, poking Nasrin's waist out of curiosity.
