Chapter 12 - Reaching the village

AMARA

Amara was dreaming she was with her brother Adan. She was in his arms and felt safe. They were splashing in the pools of water that melted from ice at the top their mountain. Everything started to fade, and she woke up from water splashing on her arms. She opened her eyes and was terrified to see a large brown-haired man staring at her. Amara was terrified even more now of strangers and went to stand but her legs couldn't get up and her arms were weak. The scary man said something gently which shocked Amara.

"I won't hurt you female your safe" Amara didn't know what to say weren't outsiders violent? Observing her surroundings, she noticed the blood was gone off her feet and she wasn't dirty. Did this terrifying man clean her off? She looked in his eyes they weren't as piercing and sharp as that eagle. The man spoke again softly.

"My name is Borin what's yours beautiful?" His voice was deep and sultry. Should she respond? He seemed friendly and was looking at her the way single phenix males looked at her. She was confused and scared but decided to answer him.

"I'm Amara" she replied calmly but Borin didn't speak and only stared at her. His gaze was heavy. She was getting nervous and thought he seems friendly; it must just be the Eagle tribe that is harsh. Amara must know what tribe he is from

"What are you " she asked sternly to try to intimidate him. After all, even if she couldn't stand, she can always burn him if he tries to hurt her. He looked at her oddly and said, " I'm from the bear tribe." Amara relaxed it must be true then eagles were violent.

"Do you want to visit my tribe?" Borin asked with pleading eyes. Amara didn't respond for a moment and thought while filled with anxiety. This bear seemed friendly but what if he finds out her secret and then betrays her? Will the village be friendly? If Amara went she would be outnumbered and she was very weak right now. However, she didn't want to be alone, she didn't know how to hunt. She didn't know anything about anything away from her mountain. She observed the bear he was crouched in a non-threatening way. She was just unconscious if he wanted to hurt her, he could have. Why did he clean her?

She asked him timidly "Why did you clean me?"

The man's brown eyes beamed, and his ears twitched. However, he quickly became serious "you looked in pain and were dirty. Your wounds have scabbed but you better not walk to avoid opening them. What happened? Why were you here in the forest alone and why were you so injured? " Said Borin gently but in a Questioning tone. Amara panicked should she say the truth should she lie? She decided to lie.

"I'm not sure I can't remember," Amara said while looking at the ground. Her brothers could always see through her when she lied surely this bear wouldn't be able to. After a moment she looked up and the bear was looking convinced.

Borin replied to Amara looking into her eyes. "I won't let anything happen to you Amara. I like you. Please trust me and come to the village at least for winter soon it will be very cold and there will be little to eat." Amara couldn't help but be touched by Borin's sincerity. Amara felt guilty she believed she didn't deserve Affection. Although Amara knew she had to go on living, she knew she would have to find a mate sooner or later. Amara made up her mind.

"Please let me stay with you." She asked trying her best to be cute. She could see Borin blush and quietly chuckled.

"Of course …"Borin replied hazily while staring at her. He then quickly got close and picked up Amara. Amara was shocked by this sudden movement and gasped. His arms were strong, and she could feel his muscles against her.

"Are we going to the village?" asked Amara hastily.

" We are Amara" replied Borin. He spoke again looking nervous "Currently I live with my brother, Tuskar, my mother Jeba and her mates. My brother and I came of age this spring. So, I can build us a house as soon as we get there but it'll take a few days." Amara didn't understand that he looked so nervous because he was admitting he lived with his family. In the phenix tribe it was custom to live with one's family until having a partner.

"Okay are they as nice as you?" Asked Amara. She was nervous to meet so many new people she grew up with the same people all her life.

Borin replied, "Yes my mother is very gentle and her mates are all very welcoming. Don't be nervous."

Amara felt understood, this beast just met her and could read her. She was content.

Amara didn't know what to say and stayed silent until they got to the village as did Borin.

The houses were unlike the ones made of stone back at the mountain. They were made of wood and clay. Some houses had straw tightly compacted on their roofs others had moss on their roofs. Amara thought they looked very homey and cozy.

"I love these houses " said Amara her eyes gleaming with bright curiosity. She could feel Borin push out his chest. He proudly said, " I will build you a big home just like these if you pick me Amara." Amara had enough common sense to understand him but could only bring herself to reply "Hmm ". Borin spoke again " I will introduce you to the chief first then I will take you to my family's home. " Amara thought that was a good plan to make a good impression with the person in charge and agreed to this plan.
