The bandages are wrapped tight around my eye, It's already gone after he punched it out.
I'm lucky he's letting me use clean bandages to keep it from getting infected.
My little sister sat on the couch with an empty stare, devoid of all life as she sat waiting for him to come home. That was her purpose as far as she knew.
She didn't live for anything other than that old man's pleasure.
As for me, I was just his punching bag. Something to take his stress out on.
The door burst open, and the old man came in. Clearly in a mood as he grabbed my sister and undressed her right there.
"Prince Amon, Wake up."
I awoke to Circe shouting at me in class.
I looked at Maya next to me.
I thought I told her to wake me up if I fall asleep.
"Sorry, you haven't been sleeping for the past few days, so I thought maybe I should leave you be."
Maya whispered to me.
"Well, would you like to share with the class what has just been said."
I've discovered a new ability with mind manipulation, it's the ability to read, remove and alter memories from a person's head. I use this ability on Circe before answering.
"You were talking about the tournament that takes place in a months' time. It's open to everyone in Britannia and will be held in the capital of Camelot."
"T-that is correct. That wasn't supposed to happen but ok. Well leading off from that I'd like everyone in here to participate. Sign up is available until three days prior to the event, so there's no need to rush. Oh and I'll be fighting too, so try to reach my level before then. Oh right, and tamed monsters aren't allowed to participate with their masters."
Reach her level? But she's kinda weak, shouldn't she be aiming to reach my level. Anyway I'm more worried that Maya will have to fight unaided.
"Miss Circe, how do we sign up?"
A girl called...A... A something put her hand up and asked Circe how to sign up.
"You can sign up by writing your name on any of the sign-up sheets posted In the capital of every country that makes up Britannia."
I feel a loose tug on my trouser leg from next to me. I glance across at Maya.
"I, uh, I can't read, or write. Amon, could you teach me?"
"Sure. The term's gonna be over in a week anyway. I'll need to go back through your village to get home anyway, so I'll teach you then. That is assuming you intend to stay in this academy."
"Well of course I'd be staying, why wouldn't I?"
I probably shouldn't tell her that until about a week ago I was gonna bail on this shit hole.
"no reason."
"Hey, Amon, do you think maybe I could go with you. To your home I mean."
"I've already sent a letter saying I'll return home in my own time and that I may bring company, so it should be fine."
"Would you two like to share what your talking about with the whole class?"
Circe forced her way into our conversation form the front.
"Calm your tits, I was just telling Maya about how gay your mum is."
A few kids stifled their laughs at my response while a few girls looked at Maya, envious of the fact that I was speaking to her.
"Huh, you'll never be a great king if you keep this attitude up, Prince Amon."
Circe responded to me, failing miserably to hide her annoyance.
Who said I want to be king? Who said someone like me could be king even if I wanted to?
Maya slung onto my arm and hugged my body closely, running a single finger down my chest and along my abdominal muscle.
We had finished our training and just finished our 'training' in the bath.
"Hey, why were you so mean to Circe today? She's just doing her job."
"I know, but no teachers have ever done me any good. They're all the same, preaching about how they're doors are always open for problems but when they actually find out about them, they just cover it up to make sure their own reputation doesn't get damaged."
I know Circe's the only teacher I've ever had in this world and that I shouldn't judge her by the ones in my previous life, but I can't help it.
"I think it's unfair to judge Circe based off people just because of their jobs."
"I don't care what you think!"
I push Maya away from me, clearly scaring her.
"Amon..."
I grip my head in my hands.
"I'm sorry."
Rather than being upset, Maya just hugs me, concern evident in her eyes.
"You know you can tell me anything."
"No... not this."
That's right, she can never know about my past. About who I was.
