We've been doing quests nonstop, helping to save people.
Every single time I end up going a little overboard due to how weak the opponents we're fighting are.
I even sliced up a mountain and people began calling me the God of Calamity.
"Hey, there's a missing person quest over here."
Magiya and Silen have permanently joined our party since the Demon quest.
"Hm, let's see, missing from Transylvania. Wait that's..."
Mary Sanguis. That's the name on the poster, but why is the portrait Maria.
"Let's keep looking, there has to be something more important here."
"I thought you wanted to be a hero who saves everyone with a smile on their face?"
"No your thinking of someone else. I want to be a hero who protects the weak. If I can protect everyone, I will. However, I'm not naive enough to think that's possible."
"Fair enough. Hey, what about this, there's a town that's noticed people going missing and turning up later drained of blood."
"Sure, let's do it."
We call Maria and Silen over and show them the quest we picked out.
Maria has a sour look on her face but agrees to it anyway.
We'll set off tomorrow, for now I'll have to stop by Cheren to pick up some new armour I had custom made from that demons bones and skin.
"Hey, Leon, I'll be out in a minute!"
Cheren calls from the back.
He comes out wheeling a mannequin wearing an ornate set of armour.
The piece consisted of a golden chest piece with detailed muscles and a silver bull emblazoned on the chest. The left shoulder guard had a golden rams horn engraved onto the surface while the right shoulder had a brown bear pelt which extended across the shoulder blades fitting under the left shoulders guard. The belt consisted of a golden sun with brown demon leather extending around the waist. This belt held up a pteruges which had golden inlay along its leather strips. Beneath this was a plain black linen skirt. On each arm was a golden bracer with snakes writhing across them. Each greave for the leg was adorned in a similar fashion to the bracers. The feet was made up of a pair of brow leather shoes suitable for walking in.
The entire piece was, incredible.
"I tried to keep close to a Grecian design like what the Spartans would wear, so I threw a little bit of gold and fancy engravings on for ya. Can't have the God of Calamity going around looking like a peasant now can we."
"This is...amazing."
"Heh, figure my final piece in this town should be my best one yet."
"Wait what do you mean?"
"I got an offer from the Earl of Cymru to be the blacksmith in his court, so I'll be leaving in a few days' time."
"Well, it's been a pleasure doing business with you, Cheren. I'll visit you up there one day."
"You better, someone needs to keep that piece in top shape."
We clasp hands before I leave.
I'll miss him. He's a great guy.
I arrive at the meet up spot where Magiya and Silen were waiting for me.
"New armour. Looks good, makes you look like a spartan."
"Well I did train with them a few times but I wouldn't ever go as far as calling myself a spartan."
Silen looks me up and down before giving a thumbs up to show that he liked it.
"You're wearing a skirt."
That's been Maria's only input ever since I returned while wearing it.
"This is a pteruges. It's common armour in Grecia."
"Keeps the balls nice and breezy."
Magiya came in to point out the biggest advantage. Although I do have underwear on so it's pretty limited.
We leave through the town gates and set off.
"Hey, why do you look so down?"
We're on route to our quest though Maria seems to have a forlorn expression.
"It's just that, it's probably my fault that those people died. If I never ran away they wouldn't have had to go searching for me."
Magiya heard this and slowed his pace to walk alongside Maria.
"Don't blame yourself. Even if it is your fault you had no way of knowing this would happen. All you did was look out for yourself."
"Yes but my selfishness caused the deaths of innocent people."
"So what. The only life you'll ever live is your own, so you should live it how you want to live it, and if other people get hurt because of that then so be it."
"But still..."
"Maria, you should look where your going rather than looking behind you."
"I'm looking ahead though."
"I don't think that's quite what he meant.
Maria just continues to look down.
I hate this feeling. No matter what I do she won't start feeling any better.
"Are we nearly there yet."
Maria cracks a slight smile at this.
"So childish."
She muttered something under her breath and kept walking.
