Chereads / Ghost of Britannia / Chapter 36 - Leon's arrival

Chapter 36 - Leon's arrival

We're all sat around the table having a meal.

Maya is to my right and Alice is to my left.

The last time I was at this table was less than pleasant. Everyone was badgering me about getting nobles to like me.

At that time I thought it would be the last time I'd sit here.

"So Amon, you'll be competing in the tournament next week right."

"Yes, Father."

"Do you think you can win?"

"Brother will win!"

"He will definitely win. If Amon decided to, he could destroy this world at any given moment."

I can't help but smile at the confidence these two have in me. Not that its misplaced.

"Brother, you're smiling."

"I smile a lot."

"No, this is the first time you've ever smiled in front of me. I can tell the others were you trying to force yourself to smile."

She noticed.

"Brother, there's nothing you can hide from me. You're way stronger than you let on aren't you."

"Yeah, though I've given up trying to hide it. After all what's the point when nothing short of a god could even touch me."

Maya leans on my shoulder.

"That's a lie. We both know I could touch you."

I'm going to have to visit her room later tonight aren't I.

Father's called me into the meeting room. Something about wanting me to meet someone.

I enter the room and see two people beside father.

They're vampires. I can tell that much just by looking.

"Amon, allow me to introduce you to Alucard and Mary Sanguis. I'll skip right to the chase since you've already stopped paying attention. We want-"

"You want me to marry that girl, don't you?"

She's not happy. Matter of fact it looks like she's been crying.

Alucard spoke up.

"That is right. Arthur over here isn't as young as he used to be. The same can be said of Merlin and Lancelot. Truth is if Transylvania was to attack Britannia-"

"You'd be destroyed."

"Did you not here me? Your three strongest warriors are past their prime. If it came to it me and my old man, Dracula, could destroy this kingdom by ourselves."

"If that's so, then I welcome you to try."

Father cut in.

"Amon, he's right. Back in our prime we could have won, but as it is now, they'd probably win six or seven times out of ten. We need to strengthen our relations with the vampire clan. I'm sorry but this is the only way."

I look at my father and can see wrinkles on his face and greying hairs all across his head.

When did he get so old?

Father and Alucard stand up to leave.

"We'll leave you two alone for a while."

I take a seat opposite Mary.

"You don't want this either."

She looks up at me.

"No. That's one of the reasons I fled south."

"South? I've heard of a few adventurers from around there that have only started recently. Let me guess, you're Maria Cruenta."

She looked shocked that I figured it out. Not that it was hard.

"How did you know?"

"Maria means Mary in an ancient language, however it also means sea. In the same language Sanguis means blood and Cruenta means bloody. In other words you effectively changed your name from Mary Blood to Mary Bloody. You didn't really think it through, did you?"

Mary looked down.

"You know where I come from there was a queen called Bloody Mary."

"Britannia as a nation is only about twenty years old. King Arthur is it's first king, what do you mean when you say where I come from?"

"Doesn't matter. I left a long time ago. Now tell me, what is your name, is it Mary Sanguis or is it Maria Cruenta."

She looks at me confused.

"It's Mary."

"No. It's not. Your thoughts betray you. What you want is to live a happy life with that Leon. Isn't that right Maria."

(POV Change)

This man has no presence. Yet despite of all that why does he seem so intimidating.

Not only did he openly challenge my Father but it's like he also knows everything about me.

"He's on his way here you know."

What. Leon's on his way.

"He can't! If he fights my Father he'll die!"

"Well he's breaking through that window in about two minutes, so try to talk him down."

That idiot, he's going to get himself killed.

"Can you stop him?"

"Why should I stop him?"

This arrogant bastard won't even help.

Right at that moment father and king Arthur re-entered the room.

"So, how are you two getting along?"

"I'd watch yourself Alucard. He's about to arrive."

"Who is?"

At that moment the wall shattered, and a huge gust of wind burst throughout the room.

Everyone went to cover their face while Amon just sat there as if he was expecting it.

"ALUCARD!"

"Right on cue."

(POV Change)

That bastard Alucard, what the hell is he trying to do?

Is he forcing Maria to marry that prince over there.

I swing Maken towards Alucard who caught the blade in his hand.

He slams his free hand into my face launching me out the room and into a nearby spire.

I push myself off the air and return towards him.

He backhands me away as soon as I get close.

I crash into a courtyard where soldiers are busy training.

I look up to see a huge ball of blood floating in the sky.

The bloody sun is launched towards me.

I leap into the air and slice the blood apart only to be caught by the throat.

"It seems you are not a complete insect. No, you're more like a kitten next to a tiger than a cockroach next to a dragon."

He's wide open now's my chance.

I buried my blade deep into his stomach.

Blood spurts from his mouth and into my face.

He pulled his fist back to punch my face.

"You little-"

"That's enough."

A sharp voice cuts through the air distracting Alucard.

"Oho, I can sense three insane magic powers targeting me. One from the academy, Merlin no doubt. Another from Scandinavia, that must be Lancelot. And at last, there's you, Arthur."

"I'm not going to let you continue your little squabble at the expense of my kingdom."

King Arthur stood in the hole I created in the castle wall.

He looks so regal, like a lion.

Alucard drops me and I go falling to the ground only to be caught by a boy my age with white hair.

He places me gently on the ground.

He's so passive and yet why do I feel as if he could crush me at any moment.

I'm too scared to even move, is this the power of a god?
