Chereads / Ghost of Britannia / Chapter 28 - Circe vs Amon

Chapter 28 - Circe vs Amon

"Zagreus, why did you double down on a twenty? Now you just lost twice as many souls and gone bust."

Anubis complained even though he won.

I guess he just finds my gambling habits annoying.

"You got to take risks if you want to win."

"I had seventeen, you would have won anyway."

"Don't question my methods."

Anubis looks at me with an annoyed look on his face.

"So, what exactly is your plan?"

"Tell me, what happens when a human is reincarnated in another world?"

Anubis's brow furrowed.

"They're born human, but upon losing there heart, they become ghosts."

"And what is the greatest ability of a ghost?"

At these words it all clicked in Anubis's brain.

"So that's your plan."

"Yes, not long now before he has gained enough power. Though that interloper keeps driving him towards a path of emotions rather than a path of power, I may need to move sooner than I anticipated to give him a little extra push."

He's already far beyond the rest of that world. Only a full grown arcane dragon could withstand his presence.

Yes, for my plan to succeed, Amon Britannia must lose his heart.

I came to the mountains to clear my head. I can see the entire academy from up here, has it always been this beautiful or have I just never looked at it before.

I see it so clearly now, pictured against the sun rise.

It consists of multiple towers with large spires and courtyards. Full of plants and flowers. It kind of looks like that little palace that appeared at the beginning of Disney movies.

Thanks to my incredible vision despite the hundreds of miles between us I can clearly see students roaming the yards, wearing white blazers over black shirts and trousers.

When did I start noticing so much of the world around me?

Oh right, it was when I began training Maya.

What is my reason for living?

I thought that I had to gain power to serve Zagreus and that nothing else mattered, but right now, I don't even care about that.

Why am I alive?

Well, I'll figure that out later.

For now I should get back to lessons, if I miss any more days Circe may tell my Father.

I'm worried for Amon.

He used to seem like a happy go lucky kinda guy who loved to get stronger, but now it feels like he's changing. As if all that before was just a mask.

He's like a child experiencing emotions for the first time.

I was scared when he got angry with me, it was at that moment I realised the overwhelming difference in power between him and the rest of the world.

Since I started training he's been right there alongside me, I've watched his power explode to the point where even Draig couldn't touch him.

I still feel my spine shiver from the one time he showed me his status.

I feel at this point only a god could stop him.

"Maya, get your head out of the clouds."

Ah right we were in combat training.

It just isn't the same without Amon and Draig going at it.

Just as I thought that Amon entered the courtyard.

Wait, somethings not right, he entered the courtyard and yet, I can't feel his presence at all.

Before while I couldn't sense his power, I could still feel that he was there, but now he's like a leaf blown in the wind. Almost like a ghost.

"Amon, where have you been for the past few days!?"

"Training."

"That's not good enough! You should be here training with us!"

"Ok, Circe, we'll go have a bout. See who wins."

"Fine. Clear the area!"

Circe cleared the students out of the courtyard.

She doesn't actually think she has a chance, does she? Quite frankly I feel as if this world could be destroyed in days if he decided to so.

"Um, Miss Circe, are you sure this is such a good idea?"

Circe looked at me with a grim face.

"No, but I can't exactly back down after being challenged in front of everyone."

I approach Amon tentatively.

"Amon what's going on with you, why are you so different from how you usually are?"

He looked down at me.

"I don't know. I've got these weird feelings that I can't describe. I've never felt anything before, Maya. Everything up until a few weeks ago has just been a mask."

So he's had a sudden influx of unfamiliar emotions and he doesn't know how to deal with it, which has caused stress to build up.

There has to be something else there as well, something he's not telling me for some reason.

Well I'll spoil him later so for now I'll just have to hope Circe doesn't die.

I look at my stats that I spent the past week training.

I mastered Space manipulation and quickly learned time manipulation to work in conjunction with this.

I created my own separate universe where I can train to get stronger. I stayed there for about a year before leaving, though my body didn't undergo any changes during this time.

I glance across at Circe who stood waiting for the fight to start, sweat dripping out of every pore.

I put my hands in my pockets.

No point taking this seriously.

"BEGIN!"

Circe throws a bolt of black lightning towards me, only for it to stop before reaching me.

"What."

"Allow me to explain, I stretched out space to an infinite length in that one specific spot. Nothing can break through this infinity."

I reach out and grip the dark bolt in my hand and shatter it.

"Except me that is."

Circe's eye sets ablaze in dark purple flames as she activates some sort of eye power.

"Why isn't this working? I can still see you so it should work."

Is she trying to apply a curse or something?

Well, it doesn't matter, I have one thing I've been wanting to try.

The world falls away, leaving me and Circe in a pitch black void with a single entity of infinite mass and density in the centre.

Circe looks around in confusion.

"What's going on? What the hell are you?"

Just as she said that the entity exploded creating a new universe.

Circe screamed as we returned to the real world.

She collapsed onto her hands and knees, her eyes wide and sweat dripping down her face.

"What did you do?"

"I showed you the birth of a universe."

Naturally I didn't take her somewhere like that, I could probably survive in the void but she definitely can't. No, what I showed her was all just an illusion created through mind manipulation.

"I give up. You win."

The people around us looked on in shock, unable to believe that Circe lost.
