The door to the infirmary opens and three students are dragged in and quickly placed under intensive care.
I wondered how long it would take for them to get here. Assuming they're not dead.
I turned my gaze to the young woman lying on the bed in front of me, I was able to stabilise her breathing, now its just a case of waiting for her to wake up.
I wonder why she didn't fight back when those nobles attacked her. If she summoned that dragon, she would have destroyed them.
Well it doesn't matter anymore. I've taken care of those small fries. But still, she has powerful summons, well, a powerful summon, but she herself is still so weak.
I'll have to train her. She'd die very quickly if she were to enter the battlefield and fight another summoner on her level.
It might be a rare skill, but nothing ever occurs just once. Somebody somewhere will have the same skill.
Maya's eyes snapped open and met mine.
"So you're finally awake."
She stared at me silently for a few seconds, most likely her eyes were still adjusting to the light.
"Highness, I mean no disrespect but why are you here? I'm just a lowly commoner. I'm worthless."
What the hell is she saying?
"No, you're not worthless. You might be weak yourself but that can easily change, and Draig's insanely powerful. You have power, real power. Not like those noble bastards who are too obsessed with their ancestors to gain real power instead relying on their families authority to get by in life."
"But you said it yourself, I'm weak."
"And I'm here to change that."
I extend a hand towards the girl in front of me.
"Come with me and I'll make you stronger than you could ever imagine."
Maya just looked on in shock, my offer barely even sinking in.
"B-b-but I can't, your royal, training me is beneath you!"
Is she seriously going to turn down an opportunity like this just because of an inferiority complex.
"So what. To hell with royalty and nobility! Most of the royals I've had to meet when they visit my father have been self-centred and arrogant pricks! And nobles, they're even worse, they throw their name around like some badge of honour because their great granddad was able to split a mountain, and then have the balls to kiss the ass of anyone with a higher rank than them! I can't stand them!"
Maya just stared in shock at my outburst.
"Uhm, Highness…"
"Cut it out with the formalities it's getting annoying. My name's Amon."
I extended my hand once more.
"Now what do you say, want me to help make you stronger?"
She pondered for a minute before grasping my hand.
"Yes, make me strong enough to be a knight worthy of standing by the side of the future king."
Behind me one of the cockroaches stirs causing the bed it's laying in to creak.
"Um, Hig- Amon, what was that?"
"Just a cockroach, you don't need to worry about that."
I look across the chess board to my opponent, Anubis a man with the head of a jackal in traditional Egyptian clothing, as he pushes his queen to attack my pawn.
I instantly move a bishop to block the attack and prevent this.
"You've sacrificed another bishop to save a pawn, Zagreus, that self-destructive play isn't going to help you win you know."
"That's the thing, a bishop is just a bishop, it will never be anything more or anything less, but the pawn, the pawn has potential to evolve, if it makes it to the other end of the board it can be promoted to a knight or even a queen. Don't underestimate the potential of a pawn."
I raise my hands in the air for dramatic effect.
"Speaking of pawns how's that boy, Amon was it, doing?"
"He's gaining power rapidly, it will be time to make my move soon."
"Are you sure this gamble will work against him."
"No. But it's fun to watch the pawn grow and get stronger."
"You mean to say you've bet both our lives on an impossible bet?"
"No, my plan would involve my death anyway. I've lived for millions of years, Anubis, I feel as though my final act should be to take him out. We both know if I don't, he'll wipe out everything in the omniverse and start over."
"You mean your doing this for everyone else's survival?"
"Yes, that's why I'm going with something entertaining for my final gamble."
"Out of the millions of possible plans you could've come up with, you came up with this one just because it's fun. I really don't understand you sometimes."
I crack a smile.
My plans starting to come together, and thanks to movement from Satan other demons are likely to encroach upon that world as their lord deemed it fit.
This should help Amon get stronger, assuming he doesn't die. At least not for real.
