Daryl continues; "Katherine was my girlfriend but we broke up few years ago and it was all because of me."
"Really? What happened? What did you do?" Amanda asks.
"Katherine was beautiful, kind and so cheerful but at that time, I wanted her to myself and wasn't ready to share her with the world. She was a therapist and you know that therapists see a lot of patients, so I get jealous." Daryl narrates. "I convinced her to stop her job because I felt insecure. I never allowed her hang out with her friend but anytime she stubbornly did, we ended up having a huge argument. Along the line, I got abusive and locked her up in my apartment so she wouldn't go out at all."
"You did what? Oh my God!" Amanda exclaims in utter shock
"Then when I got back from work on a particular day, I met a letter on the table written by her stating that she no longer wanted to have anything to do with me." Daryl says with a sad look.
"Ohh..." Amanda sounds
"Few weeks later, I went to visit her friend, Drew Lakes, to ask after her. She said she would not tell me anything about her and that it was better if I didn't know anything so I wouldn't hurt her. After a long plea with her that I didn't intend to hurt Katherine but just to iron things out so we wouldn't hate each other for the rest of our lives, she eventually gave me access to discuss with her. So, I used her phone to call Katherine because she would not answer it if she didn't know the caller or if she knew it was me. She picked and I told her I wanted to see her, she was reluctant at first but she later invited me over and sent her address." Daryl explains further.
"The next day around 7pm, I got to her house though it was raining cat and dog and I was drenched. I knocked at her door but she refused to open up. I actually stayed outside for another 30 minutes before she let me in. I was freezing but she gave me a cup of coffee. I pleaded that I was sorry for everything I did to her but she told me her mind was made up and that she wouldn't like to see me anymore. I was heartbroken but I also knew that I deserved it. So, I later left and since then, I haven't seen or heard from her. I knew too late that I didn't deserve her. I was fortunate to have her but I never cherished her." Daryl says looking remorseful and ashamed of his actions in the past.
"What was she wearing the night you went over to her house?" Amanda asks.
"Well... She wore a white night gown and left her hair down." Daryl answers
"Was there anyone in the house with her that night?"Amanda asks.
"No, she was alone when I got there." Daryl replies
"Do you have Drew's number or address so we could ask her few questions as well?" Amanda requests.
"Drew and I aren't really in good terms but sure." Daryl says as he brings out his phone, searches for her number and gives it to Amanda as well as her address and he leaves afterwards.
"Kelvin, Katherine is the lady in the white dress! Daryl just confirmed what I saw that day in the house." Amanda reacts looking rather surprised.
"Are you sure?" Kelvin asks
"Yes, I'm positive it's her." Amanda replies
"Okay, let's go over to Drew and find out more." Kelvin adds, as he ignites the car and they driveoff.
The next day, Kelvin and Amanda set out early after the kids have gone to school, to the address given to them by Daryl. It is a cream colored old house with a garden which is very green and beautiful. They move towards the door and knock. A voice answers from inside;
"Who is it?"
"I am Kelvin Blake and we are looking for Miss. Drew Lakes." Kelvin replies.
Then, a lady with a short dark hair and pale skin opens the door chewing a gum and says;
"Well, I am Drew Lakes and what may I do for you?" Drew says
"Please, we mean no harm but we have few questions we want to ask you about Katherine White." Amanda speaks up.
"Katherine White? What about her?" Drew asks curiously.
"May we come in?" Kelvin requests
"Yeah, sure." Drew responds and as they sit, she enquires again to know what happened to her friend, Katherine.
"When was the last time you saw Katherine?" Amanda asks.
"Humm! About three (3) years ago at her boyfriend's apartment; that was after she was abused physically by Daryl, her annoying boyfriend." Drew answers.
"Abused?"Kelvin asks.
"Yes. Daryl caged Katherine when they were together and never allowed her hang out with her friends. The last pool party she came, Daryl called and was furiously talking to her on the phone to get her ass back home..." Drew says
"And she left?" Amanda asks
"Yes, she did... But a few days later, since I didn't hear from her, I decided to go over to check up on her and find out if she was okay. When I got to the place, the house was locked but she was inside. The asshole locked her up in the house and refused to allow her go out. He even seized her phone so she couldn't have access to call anyone from outside for help." Drew explains.
"That's serious!" Amanda reacts. "So what did you do?"
"I helped her to escape from there. Then, I assisted in the process to get her name changed with all other information about her so she could move out of town and start a better life with a different identity." Drew says.
"We eventually didn't change her name but she changed her phone number so that Daryl won't be able to contact her." Drew says.
"Then few weeks later, Darly showed up at my house asking after Katherine White and saying he has been searching for her, calling her line but it wasn't going through. Then he received a suddenly hunch and remembered that I would know where she is." Drew says
"Did you give him her number?"Amanda asks.
"I didn't at first but he kept pestering and begging me that he just wanted to iron out issues with her. So,after a while of intense persuasion, I gave him the contact and he used my phone to call. She picked probably thinking it was me. He asked if they could meet but she responded not ready to meet him. He kept begging her and after a while, she accepted and told him where they could meet." Drew says
"Did you know where they planned to meet?" Amanda asks curiously
"No. He didn't tell me and she also didn't disclose that information." Drew replies. "But I honestly don't know sometimes what goes on in that head of hers."
"What do you mean?" Amanda asks
"Well, Katherine has a lot of secrets that she hasn't told me even though I'm her best friend." Drew says.
