As we got to the next house Jones told me to sit on the couch as he looked around the house but I protested since... because... because I was a dumb 10 year old, so I searched the first floor while he checked the ground floor.
I entered a random room and as I looked around the room but found nothing interesting so I turned back and looked for another room, but before I could move to the next room I saw Jones rushing up the stairs. He looked worried and nervous and as he reached me he swooped me up and carried me to a window that led to a roof.
"Bandits..." He whispered. Even with the understanding of a ten year old, I knew that this was bad so I didn't say anything.
As we were staying on the roof, Jones made sure all the bandits were inside the house before climbing down, it was only a 2 and a half meters drop so after he got down he caught me and we ran for the road where there were 3 motorcycles that the bandits must have left.
Jones put me on the back of a cruiser that seemed fit for his size, he then went to the other ones and opened their gas tanks before pushing them over and getting on our bike.
"Here, throw this near the gas when I tell you." He gave me a lighter and then turned the engine on.
The bandits must have heard it so they rushed out of the house but they weren't fast enough, we were already moving.
"Now!" He shouted. I threw the lighter as close as I could to the gas but the flame was just out of reach to catch fire.
"Damn, we'll have to outrun them. I hope they don't have guns."
Two of the guys rushed to their bikes and as one of them was lifting it, a drop of gas fell on the lighter and produced a small explosion that managed to make the other motorcycle catch on fire. The vapors from the gas exploded and both of the bandits were burning.
The third guy that stayed behind looked at me with a face that said "This is not the end." before going to help his buddies. I couldn't see what happened next because Jones entered a road that was leading out of town but in the opposite direction to the forest nearby.
"I thought we were going to your cabin."
"Change of plans. My son texted me that he is staying at my parent's farm and that it seems pretty secure. The only problem is that it's in Texas. And a drive from New York to Texas would take at least two days in normal conditions."
"Okay..."
"We'll stop at a gas station nearby so be on the lookout for any of those zombies."
To take my mind off the things that happened I took my new job very seriously after we got there, some zombies were in the store but Jones quickly took care of them. They acted like normal zombies you would see on tv but they looked normal except for their sunken eyes with green around them.
I stayed outside and looked around the parking lot for nothing in particular but I ended up finding a car in the middle of the road covered in small holes, they weren't too deep but seeing them was enough to frighten me so I turned around to go back.
As I found myself being covered by a human sized shadow I instinctively swung my bat and ended up tearing some of the monster's flesh off, but it was still standing.
This one wasn't like the normal ones, it looked regular except for the almost metal stakes coming out of it's palms and it also had a a lot of cuts and holes that seemed to fit it's weapons.
"Jones! Help!" I wasn't going to fight this thing alone so I called out for my only hope of survival, but it was going to take him a while to get here so I had to fend for myself until he gets here.
After the hit I landed on it, the zombie retreated a little and seemed to examine it's wound. This one is also inteligent, it'll be a close fight.
The zombie didn't waste any more time and shot from it's spot with an average sprinting speed, I was quick to react and managed to swing my bat but it dodged to the side, I was now facing away from the gas station.
It seemed to think about it's next move for a second but I didn't just stay there like an idiot, instead, I started running as fast as I could towards Jones. I took it by surprise but it soon started running after me, and soon enough it caught up.
"Get down!" I listened to the command as Jones was right next to me and when the creature jumped to grab me he swung his machete and ripped the monster in half.
It was now screaming and spasming but it was still alive.
"What could have done something so horrific to a human being? I'll put it out of it's misery." He then got close to it and delivered a strong kick to the creatures head whitch made it splatter all over the floor.
"Let's clean up your wound, kid." He said while brandishing a med kit. At this point it didn't hurt that bad but it was probably because of all the adrenaline in my system.
The cleaning process hurt a lot but I endured trough it, after it was done we got what we could from the store and filled the gas tank of the motorcycle before getting back on the road.
