We drove for a couple more hours and as the burning sun started to pass the horizon Jones decided we had to find a place to sleep. By this time we reached another town and we were in the middle of an upper class neighborhood, as we we're looking around we saw a house that had it's door open but otherwise seemed in a pretty good state so he parked the bike in the driveway.
"I'll go open the garage door, stay on your toes."
It was dark outside but thankfully the lamp posts were still working so I could see a lone that was walking towards me.
"Hey, Jones! There is a zombie here!" I shouted.
"Do you think you can take care of it? This garage door is rusty so I'll have to get the bike in trough the door."
"I think I can take it on, it doesn't seem smart like the other ones."
The zombie was getting closer, it was slow and had kitchen knife lodged in it's chest. As it got within my reach I swung the bat towards it's face but it didn't connect because it had it's hands in the way, I took a step back then swung again to it's side this time. It connected but it seemed unaffected by the hit so I knew this was going nowhere.
"Jones, I can't hit it's head, what should I do?"
"Ugh... Oh, right. I saw in a show that you can hit the back of it's knee and it will fall down, then hit it's head."
"The back of the knee? Ok, I'll try..."
As it got close again I sidestepped, it barely reacted to my movements and it couldn't do anything against my attack, it fell to the ground but it's bloodlust didn't let it give up, it started crawling, trying desperately to get me.
But I wasn't going to let it do that so I closed my eyes and put all my strength in an overhead attack to it's brain.
"Argh.... Grr..." It was still alive so I hit it again. "GrrHHH..." And one last hit. "..." It died.
By this point I was gasping for air, all that fear, anger, hesitation and distress that it's presence caused me were all gone, and in their place a new emotion was standing tall... pleasure. The excitement of killing something didn't occur to me until this very moment, it felt good in a strange way, and for some reason I wanted more.
"Did you get it, kid? ... What's that smile for?"
Without even realizing it, I was smiling. I looked down at my first kill, then at my shoes, then my clothes. I was covered in blood from everything that happened today.
"I want to take a bath."
"Sure, do whatever you want." He got the bike and got it in the house as I followed. "I haven't checked the first floor yet, but I don't think there are any bathroomson this floor, I'll come with you."
We checked the first floor but there weren't any zombies so he left me alone and went to check the basement because "we don't want any surprises".
I entered a kid's room that seemed to have clothes and a bathroom. After I took a shower and dressed myself I went out to look for Jones but he was coming up the stairs.
"Hey, kid. The house is clear and a locked all the doors and windows. Go to sleep, we will be leaving early in the morning, okay?"
I nodded.
-The Next Day-
*Knock* *Knock* "Wake up kid, we're about to leave."
I slowly woke up and unconsciously walked to the wardrobe, but when a wall was taking it's place it hit me that this is not my room, that I don't live here.
I took some clothes from where this room's wardrobe was and put them in my bag then I got dressed and made sure I have everything I need.
As I descended the stairs, I saw Jones watching the news on tv, he noticed me and lifted an army knife over his shoulder.
"Take this, in case you need it. I found it in the basement, I think it seen some action in World War II actually. It would be the first time someone uses it in what, 70-80 years?"
"What is World Was II?"
"Oh, yeah, I forgot you're just a kid because of that kill last night. Seriously, it was impressive, most adults would probably at least hesitate but you went straight for it. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand it will help you survive bad situations, on the other hand it will get you in more bad situations. I guess if you're not stupid you might actually survive this shit."
"Umm... Thank you?"
#... After what happened yesterday, the president decided to drop a nuke on LA so to all survivors that are in the area, evacuate as soon as possible.#
#In other news the Pentagon released a statement about what caused the apocalypse to happen, I will put it on, since there are only two of us remaining in the studio...#
#"Hello ladies and gentlemen, after what happened two days ago our whole team, well, what remains of it, worked hard to determine what caused the apocalypse. If you remember, a comet was due to pass Earth exactly when this all started, we believe that the ice it left behind melted in the atmosphere and released a virus that is most likely the cause for the infection. You might wonder why you aren't infected then, it's because you are most likely immune to it, from the Intel we gathered so far it seems like it may have only severely affected people that have allergies, and people that didn't transform don't have any allergy. However we don't suggest using an EpiPen on the monsters. The investigations is still ongoing so take it with a grain of salt. That is all the information we have at the moment, I pray that you survive."#
#You heard it folks, that is all the information we have too, if we don't die, the next news will be tomorrow at the same hour, goodbye.#
"Damn, thank God my whole family is mostly allergy free... I just realized I just took you with me without even asking about your family. Only your mom was in the car with you, is your dad still out there?"
"I don't have a dad."
"Then any grandparents?"
"Well they are alive but both of them have multiple allergies, so... they are..."
"I'm sorry to hear that." He got on one knee. "Don't cry, you have to be strong, even if you don't have anyone right now, in the future there will be many people relying on you."
"..."
"Let's go now, we still have a long way."
