Ah that fresh virtual air, feels good as I run across the scorched plains towards my forest, well I say my forest but I mean with the state the city is in, I doubt anyone other than the heroes will be wandering around outside the walls at this point.
As my run back to familiar territory was being performed I took stock of the surrounding area, not much outside the city has changed I mean sure theirs a few more craters in the ground likely caused by bombardment magic or something.
But in the distance the forest looks just like it always did, hopefully my retreat is in one piece so I don't need to waste anytime rebuilding everything.
It is great to see however that even with the rampaging march of the twin armies that this forest is still standing, a crafter without materials can hardly do their job, and if I lose the vital resource of wood, even with all that I have help within my storage ability I'll run out in no time at all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After tens of minutes my return to my humble abode was complete, the scenery looks exactly like I left it, well it honestly looks like a bit of a disaster, like an entire adventurer party was camped here for months before departing leaving behind signs of their time staying here.
But first off is to check out the Kilns and my home, though I'd sealed the exhaust, and entrances there's always the chance monsters managed to invade the dark spaces just like a certain stalker always seemed to do.
So while doing a light bit of cleanup on the surface to erase as much of the signs this place was once inhabited, I started my investigation of the underground, and started to imagine how I would be performing the base upgrade to make my new home into an underground sanctuary.
Kiln 1 (all good)
Kiln 2 (a pair of goblins had gotten inside but with my new metal weaponry I manage to deal with them in almost no time at all)
Kilns 3/4 there were nests of spiders, but rather than killing them, I instead collected their webs, and captured them in a simple creation of mine, I mean after all spider silk is an invaluable crafting material after all.
Last final kilns weren't inhabited by any monsters or the like but they had collapsed some into themselves which was odd since the surface was not affected at all but the walls had caved in allowed soil to fill the majority of the structure.
My house being the last was found in a relatively perfect condition except for the fact that there was an abnormal amount of dust collected all over considering I had only been away for a week, and on top of that this is a game, why is there even dust to begin with!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The time passed rather quickly and the dust was cleared away, luckily I had a fan on hand from the forge that I could use exactly like a hand broom.
With this my early built facilities are back to normal once again, alrighty well first things first we should get a round of Charcoal started right away to not waste the day.
Piling my previously collected wood high in all the Kilns before setting them alite and sealing up the entrances.
From above ground the thin plumes of smoke could be seen for only a few meters before disappearing into the sky.
Next up I want to increase my facilities, first of which being a safe place whereupon I can craft without worrying about the demon lords army, or even the heroes or adventurers for that matter.
Well only one choice got to make a true underground home.
But i cannot merely make a few underground rooms, i must first construct the entranceway and methods of protecting my new home, especially for when i am not here in the game, can't go letting my personal abode falling into becoming a demon lord hideout or base camp from which to assault the city.
Kind of the dick move i could see the admin's doing after all.
Seeing as how they seem to be purposefully going in a round about method to make this game so hard it'll be unclearable, beta or no to have a setup and player freedom of this way but also to set massive limitations and not even pause gameplay between sessions.
Anything one does in the time they have here would be completely torn down the next time they arrive back in the game.
So my plan now is to create something that will withstand the week i am not around, something that truly fits with the theme of a game.
Yeah that's right I'm going to craft a dungeon! one through which can protect the humble abode of the Dungeon master aka me!
So with my path set firmly before me i raised my shovel up high in the air, bringing the blade down until it smoothly cut into the ground a fair distance away from my base camp into the virgin earth of this forest
Shovelful after shovelful was removed and the excavated earth was immediately collected thanks to my skill, once the initial staircase down had been created, i then evened out the path creating a tunnel at the base of those stairs, once i get better at it or manage to learn earth magic i should create a cover, cave, or cavern to protect these stairs from the elements, that or replace the earthen stairs with stones.
The tunnel i dug was still angled downward slightly, since running a perfectly straight path would be hard, not to mention boring, that and well since the entrance is open and everything i need to make it possible for the water to run off somewhere.
And so as time passed my monotonous digging continued.
Ugh just thinking about the absolute ton of dirt that's going to be waiting for me in my inventory already has me thinking about backpain!
