Chapter 53 - Chapter Fifty-Three

  Fáelán led Cierra and the Brigantes through away from the rocks and into a thicket of trees. Around them was silence. Cierra found herself listen to the footsteps of her companions, her own heartbeat echoing in her ears. 

  "Do you not have," Cierra was going to say birds or insects, but then remembered how many realms she had been to that often only had one or two creatures, "Any animals?" 

  "We do," Aisling answered thoughtfully, "They just don't seem to be here right now."

  "Am I sensing trepidation from the great Brigantes?" Fáelán asked, walking ahead of them. Every time he took a step forward, his foot seemed to pass through the ground a moment before propelling him onward. In this way he led them, quickly fading and stepping into the distance. 

  Cierra's stomach rolled just watching him. She chose instead to focus her gaze on the ground, making sure she didn't trip over anything.
