Chapter 21 - Chapter V: The Association of Mercenaries Part 3

The receptionist asks me to place my hands on a small stone and explains that she will take my personal information and engrave it onto a plaque. She explains that it will act as identification since the status window is invisible to others besides oneself. But she reassures me that only general information will be disclosed, with no skills or stats revealed.

I agree, and after a few minutes, my plaque is finished:

Identification Plaque

Name: Heolstor Xel'Mourndor

Level: 03

Profession: Void Marchant

Mercenaries Association of Steelwall

Rank: F

I can see that it's true. The plaque is simple and small. I put it in my backpack while the receptionist warns me that if I lose my plaque, I'll have to pay for a new one.

I thank her and go to the request board or mission board as some call it. I look at the F-rank requests. I would like to find a request that would allow me to easily kill monsters so that I can acquire them while also earning some money. A two-in-one as my father would say.

I found a mission that involves collecting ten feathers from red-headed eagles. The monster is not too difficult to kill if you have a ranged weapon, and the reward is fifty copper coins. I accept the request at the receptionist's desk and head back to the forge, where I want to buy a dagger.

Upon entering the forge, a dwarf asks me what I want. I tell him that I am looking for a dagger to skin the monsters that I kill, and he advises me to take a regular one made of bronze or iron. I look at the prices and the bronze dagger is 70 copper coins, while the iron one is 1 silver coin. I have 49 silver coins left, so I can afford it. I buy the iron one since it is of better quality and immediately return to the forest.

In the distance, there is a small cliff with about fifteen red-headed eagles. I can hear them screeching in the distance. Some are circling while others are perched on the cliff, all within range of my musket. I aim at one and fire. The unlucky bird spirals down and crashes to the ground. Startled by the noise, the other eagles panic for a few moments before attempting to find the culprit.

I reload and fire again. A second eagle falls. The rest of the group flies off furiously, and one of the eagles spots me through the foliage of the trees. I feel like it is communicating my location to the others, as they all seem to want to swoop down on me. Fortunately, I am protected by the trees. I reload and fire again. Another bird falls, and I repeat this several times until one of the eagles manages to sneak through the tree branches. I use my psionic attack to make it crash to the ground, then finish it off with my dagger.

After a while, the eagles realize they can't do anything against me and retreat to their nests hidden within the cliff. I retrieve the eagle carcasses and skin them for their resources. In total, I collect about two hundred feathers and ten small energy crystals, which are the most important part. I leave the rest behind because I don't have enough space in my backpack.

According to what I learned in the Basic Knowledge course, crystals have several uses. They can be used to recharge mana, as a source of energy, some professions use them to gain experience, and they can also be used as currency. It's always useful to have them, and if not, I can sell them at a good price.

Once rested and ready to leave, I return to the Mercenaries Association to complete my mission. I give ten eagle feathers to the secretary, and she gives me fifty copper coins as a reward. Putting the coins in my bag, I decided to finish my day and come back the next day.
