Chapter 25 - Chapter VI: Level Ten! Part 2

The next morning, upon arriving at the Dungeon Exploration class, Professor Aurellius explained to us that the dungeon had been remodeled, meaning that the academy had modified it so that students could learn new things inside. Now that we had the experience of our first exploration, he explained that he could tell us more, and indicated that today's dungeon would be divided into three main rooms. The difficulty would increase as we progressed through the dungeon, and the last room would be the lair of a boss. He explained that dungeons, with few exceptions, always have a boss at the end. He finished by saying that if we manage to defeat the boss, we can reap a reward that is worth the effort. As for the inside of the dungeon, he told us to discover it for ourselves...

Without further ado, everyone lined up and we entered one by one through the portal contained within the giant door.

On the other side of the gate, I see walls made of cut stone with a smooth stone floor. The temperature is cool, and the corridor is lit by torches, spaced every ten meters, leaving a shaded area between each one. I take one, prepare my musket, and continue on my way. The corridor turns left and then again. Further down, about twenty meters away, I see a door, so I continue on. Five meters further, as I go to step on the ground, the section of the floor beneath me disappears. Falling, I activate my stealth shadow skill and manage to escape unscathed from the trap. Out of curiosity, I shine my torch into the pit and see a few sharp spikes. Surprised, I'm glad I didn't fall.

I continue on and arrive at the door at the end of the corridor. I open it, and on the other side is a large room. Upon examination, on the left is a small door, straight ahead a large double door, and to the right, a staircase that runs along the wall and must lead to a second floor. I decide to check out the second floor before pushing my exploration further, as I wouldn't want to leave any monsters behind me. As I climb the stone stairs, I see several empty bottles scattered around a small table. I wonder why there would be empty bottles in a dungeon. At the same time, a small Grimloc emerges from the shadows and attacks me with a small mace reinforced with nails. I dodge by stepping to the side and hit him in the head with my torch. The flames burn his face, and he screams in pain. He drops his mace and grabs his face with both hands. In the meantime, I take the opportunity to drop my torch and take my musket in both hands to shoot him. The sound resonates in the large room, and the echo gradually fades away. I reload while looking around, but no one else attacks me. The Grimloc's body looks like that of a teenager if you don't take into account his protruding canines, very dark skin, and square ears. He is still on the ground and not moving, so I skin him and find a small energy crystal in his head. I search a bit to see if I can find something else, but there is nothing.

I decide to go back down and continue with the small door on the left. On the other side is a circle of tall stones standing in the center of the room. Part of the floor and ceiling are connected by white filaments that look like spiderwebs. I decide to approach and try to set fire to the white threads to see what will happen. The filaments actually catch fire and so does the room. I hear small high-pitched screams and a giant spider emerges from behind the stones. The creature tries not to get trapped by the flames and climbs up the wall. I take advantage of its vulnerable position and shoot it with a bullet that looks like a small lightning bolt, hitting it squarely in the head. Caught off guard and shocked by the electricity in my bullet, it falls into the flames and catches fire completely. Unable to withstand the intense heat of the fire, I decided to leave this room and come back later if necessary. I return to the large starting room to take the center door. On the other side is a small portal. It appears as a dark indigo door and emits a supernatural groaning sound from the portal. Before crossing, I check that my musket is loaded and enter the portal. Upon exiting the portal, I feel a bit dizzy, but it quickly subsides. Back in a small corridor, there is a small metal portal five meters away. I try to lift it, but the portcullis is too heavy. After thinking about it, I decide to use the Shadow Sneak skill and pass through it. Upon reaching the other side, I see a well-lit room with trenches in the floor. As I approach slowly, I see small heads appear and start shouting in a strange language. Shortly after, five heads emerge from the trenches and point a spear at me. I believe they are Kobolds: small reptilian humanoids that commonly infest dungeons. They compensate for their physical inability with skill in trap making and small fortifications. They don't move and wait for me to arrive, but that suits me fine since I can take advantage and shoot one. BAM! One of the Kobolds fell to the ground with its head exploded. The other four hide in the trench, so I reload, approach, and lean over to look inside when a spear grazes my face.

I move back quickly, step a little further and start again. In the trench, I see Kobolds separated at equal distance. They are looking up to intercept me like the one who just did. The one closest to me turns around and looks at me. He understands that he missed his chance and tries to charge at me, but I shoot him in the meantime. I have to reload and they know it, so the last three Kobolds sprint towards me to pierce me with their spears. I wait until they are close to me and at the last moment, I activate Shadow Step. I move behind them and run further away. I see them a little dazed since they don't understand what just happened, but they recover and turn around to find me. I shoot the first one in front and the other two stumble because of his body. I run a little further while reloading and start again when they get close. While the last one is getting up, I approach him, take out my dagger and activate Shadow Step again. I end up behind him and stab him in the back. The last monster dies and collapses. I wipe my blade on his body and search their corpses to see if they have any valuable items and I dissect them to check if they have any crystals, but luck is not on my side. I explore the rest of the room, but all I find are food scraps and small shelters. They must have rested there before hearing me arrive. At the back of the room, there is a small cavity. As I approach a little closer, the passage appears to be a portal that looks like a small strange path. I slip into it and my vision blends.
