I give the receptionist the items to complete my quest and ask her if she buys monster corpses. She responds affirmatively, stating that resources can be refined into equipment by the right people. For the Arfovix corpse, she can give me ten silver pieces since it is a rank D monster. As she says this, she looks at me and asks if I am really a rank F mercenary, finding it surprising that I defeated one. I tell her that I am and she suggests that I take the test to increase my rank to E or D. The higher my rank, the more variety of requests I will have access to. I may eventually be able to negotiate reward prices and increase my reputation. It's tempting, but not for now, as it would be abnormal to become rank D just 2 days after registering. Returning to the matter at hand, she gives me my ten silver pieces and two mana potions, which are the mission's reward. After pocketing everything, I return to the dormitory to finish my day.
A man stands off to the side and seems to be listening to my conversation with the receptionist. Not seeing a problem, I don't pay him any attention.
On the way, I pass through one of the less-used paths near the dump. It's faster to get to the academy this way, but you have to put up with the scent, hence its unpopularity. Walking, I feel a breeze on my back and a man's voice says:
"Stay still if you value your life."
Without moving, I swallow and feel a blade at my throat. I ask him what he wants.
"Take off your backpack and put it on the ground, if you make a wrong move, I'll stab you, you hear me?" he says, pressing his blade a little harder.
I slowly start taking off my backpack. I remove one arm from the strap and turn around a bit to remove the second. Without him expecting it, I use my Psionic Attack. He holds his head in pain and I take the opportunity to grab my musket and shoot him in the head. He collapses lifelessly on the ground. I search him and find five silver pieces, a dagger, and a green ring. I leave his body there, as no one will find it anytime soon...
I get up, have breakfast, empty my backpack, and look at my status window. It's a little more filled out since the last time. I acquired a few more monsters in addition to the bandit I killed! It's good to know that not only does my talent work on monsters, but also on humans! Excitedly, I look at my new skills to see what they do:
