I knew that it was urgent that I get home as soon as possible. So, after my call ended, I headed over to my CO's tent, to apply for leave.
I don't think he was to happy about it.
"So, you want to use your leave immediately, for a family emergency." He said with a cold crass voice.
An old man dressed in his combat uniform, smoking a cigar in deep long puffs.
"Yes Sir. I have a lot of leave saved up that I never used." I said trying to persuade him to let me leave.
The old man just smiled and pulled out a manilla folder from his desk and handed it to me.
"What's this?" I asked.
"It's a condition for you to have an extended leave."
Curious I opened the folder and read the contents that were inside. As I glossed over the pages my eyes got wider and wider. Til finally i asked.
"Someone is funding terrorists with guns, money, food everything they could ever need."
"That's right the only problem is, we have been having trouble finding out who exactly is funding them."
I closed the folder and looked up at the man.
"You want me to stay there and work on the case until its done."
The man smiled and nodded his head yes.
"I accept." I eagerly said, then walked out of his tent with the folder.
I quickly packed my bag, not that I even had many possesions. They all fit inside one small duffel bag.
Hitching a ride on one of our cargo planes I was in the air and headed home. Well home to where my wife is.
The plane had no sound isolation so the noise and hum of the engines throughout the entire cabin, making sleep nigh impossible.
It sounded like a gunfight in an enclosed metal container. With that being said I slept like a baby, not at all bothered by the noise.
To me it was music to my ears.
The plane ride flew by as I slept through most of it and before I knew it we had landed back home.
As I stepped of the plane I was hit with the fresh smell of clean air.
"Ahh refreshing."
For my entire stint so far in the military the smell of clean refreshing air was a luxury. Blood and rotten corpses was the only thing that passed my nose. It was so bad that i got completly used to it.
After my reverie I swiftly moved down the tarmack and outside the gate to the military airport. I was still on base, just outside of the airport area.
It took me ten minuites of walking to finally make it to the front gate of the military base. I could have asked one of the privates for a ride but i wanted to enjoy the fresh clean air some more.
Another two minutes to get through the checkpoint after showing them my I.D. It was a relatively quick trip as I was off base in a total of twelve minutes.
I was surprised to see a man dressed in a black suit as he stood next to an all black rolls royce sedan. However I smiled and walked over to him.
'Grandfather probably sent him.' I thought.
"Greetings Sir I have been sent to drive you back to the estate." The guards said as he did a slight bow and then opened the door for me ton get in.
I smiled and didnt say anything and got in the car. I ad to admit I was feeling a little nervous to be seing my wife again after basically never talking to her for years after we got married.
We were only married in name only as we never even consumated our marriage. Despite the nerves I was excited to reach the house and see her again.
