Chereads / Healer Against Zombie Invasion / Chapter 31 - Next City

Chapter 31 - Next City

It was noon. Zayn and Angie went to several places to look for food and drink, but they couldn't find any food stock anywhere. Maybe someone had already looted the food supplies, or it was damaged by being contaminated with zombies' blood or fluids.

"This is very strange. Why is there no proper food around here. Even if we managed to survive the monster's lair, we could starve to death, right? Did the townspeople do it before evacuating or something?" Zayn stood on top of a tall building to inspect the surrounding area.

"!~" Angie sat near Zayn, enjoying the cool breeze.

"We seem to need to leave this zombie city to find food. However, the distance to other places is quite far. If there was a vehicle or something like a means of transportation. Wait, a vehicle?" Zayn raised his eyebrows. Some things felt foreign yet familiar enough to him, and it was feeling very strange.

He diagnosed himself with memory loss. Some things were fuzzy, yet he didn't fall too deep into the confusion. His remnant knowledge of several things truly saved him, but he had no recollection of experiences or events.

What surprised him the most was that some things just came out spontaneously, but he couldn't access his memories.

"Nevermind. This city has no hope and we can't last long here. Angie, we're out of here." Zayn rubbed his head and stood up.

*Swoosh*

The wind blew and brushed Angie's long golden hair aside, tickling Zayn's face.

"..." Angie held her hair to keep it from falling apart in the wind.

"Looks like we need to do something with your long hair first. Wouldn't it bother you to just let your long hair down? Shall we cut it a bit shorter?" Zayn pulled out a knife.

"!!!" Angie took a few steps away and hugged her precious long hair.

"All right, no one's going to cut your hair a little shorter then. Let me do something to your long hair so it doesn't bother you in action. We can tie it up with a little trick." Zayn beckoned to Angie to come close and sheathed his knife.

"..." Angie came over and grabbed the knife. She then calmed down and let Zayn do something for her.

"Well then." Zayn tied Angie's hair back in a ponytail, then curled it up so that the long hair was half shorter.

The wind once again blew a little stronger. It made Zayn and Angie close their eyes reflexively.

"The wind feels stronger at higher altitudes, huh..." Zayn looked around once and heaved a subtle sigh.

Angie then touched her hair and nodded in satisfaction. At that moment, she noticed a large blue cloth stuck on an iron pole. She then pointed in that direction and tugged at the hem of Zayn's sleeve for attention.

"Hm, what's wrong? What's with that big blue cloth over there? You want me to check it out because it looks suspicious?" Zayn tried to guess Angie's wishes.

Angie just nodded, and Zayn immediately checked the stuck big blue fabric.

He carefully tried to see if there was anything behind the big fabric, but he only found a lot of rope there.

He didn't find anything suspicious there, but maybe he could turn this big cloth into a big cloth bag to store and carry more food later?

With that idea in mind, Zayn tried to get the big snagged cloth off the iron pole. He was careful not to tear it.

It took a few minutes, but Zayn safely saved the large blue cloth without cutting or tearing anything.

"I thought you'd help me, but you're just watching." Zayn shook his head when he found Angie still sitting in her seat and just gave him a smile.

*Swoosh*

The strong wind once again blew. It made the big cloth bloom and was carried away by the wind.

"Whoa!" Zayn immediately grabbed hold of the ropes to save his big cloth, but he was dragged several meters before the strong wind calmed down.

"Phew, I almost fell because of this big cloth." Zayn wiped his sweat and sighed. He then glanced at the cloth, which fluttered by the wind and an idea suddenly came to his mind regarding the previous matter. "Wait, maybe we can use this to fly with the power of the wind? We can use these ropes by tying our bodies and flying in the wind! Yes, that's it!"

Zayn dropped his fist onto his open palm. It was brilliant because the wind was strong enough to drag him along.

Zayn then tried to figure out how to use the cloth like an object that would be carried by the wind and brought him to fly. He didn't know it was a parachute, but after some trial and error, he finally understood how to use it.

After tying several safety ropes around his body, Zayn felt that was enough to ensure he could fly with the strong winds. He then beckoned Angie to get closer because he would take her to fly.

"???" Angie had no idea why Zayn was tying his body like that, but she came over curiously.

"The wind will carry us flying with this. Please don't move, spread your arms a little." Zayn put some safety ropes around Angie's body.

"???" Angie just let Zayn tie her up. She was now tied so closely to him because of the ropes.

However, what happened next really surprised her. The strong wind blew once again, and Zayn suddenly threw the big cloth up. The wind made the cloth bloom, and they were carried away by the wind.

Zayn ensured their flight position was correct, and he jumped off the building. "Yeah. It's good!"

"!!!" Angie panicked as they were carried away by the wind. She had thought they had fallen from a height.

"Calm down. We're flying now. This will be our emergency transport to the next city." Zayn tried to pull some ropes, and he realized he could control the direction of their flight.

"..." Angie soon calmed down. She looked up at Zayn's calm face, then wrapped her arms around his neck to ensure she wouldn't fall alone. She turned her face to the side to watch the zombie city from above.

"Phew..." Zayn looked back once to bid farewell to the forest of monsters.

Due to the strong winds, Zayn and Angie managed to cover the distance a few kilometers north of City X. They had arrived at another city without walking.

They landed on an empty flyover. Zayn tried to fold his parachute, but it was still too big and heavy to carry away. He still had his backpack containing clothes and some useful items as well.

"..." Angie saw Zayn's confusion, but she had a perfect solution for it. She immediately took the bundle of cloth and threw it far away.

"Hey, what?" Zayn was shocked and tried to save the bundle of cloth. However, it had fallen down and was swept away by the current of the river below. "Why did you do that, Angie?"

Angie only responded by shaking her head. She didn't like flying like before because she felt they were helpless in the air. They were an easy target to attack. It wasn't a good situation, and she didn't want to use that way of flying again.

"You don't like it? All right, the cloth is gone now. Let's get out of here." Zayn sighed and walked away.

"..." Angie rushed to Zayn's side, then held out her hand.

Zayn was silent, but he still held Angie's hand. He was still annoyed that Angie threw away that flying cloth, but he couldn't be mad at her either.

Angie smiled faintly, but something suddenly alarmed her. She looked back and averted her gaze. A high-rank zombie was watching them from afar, but the monster didn't look like it was going to chase them.

*Bam* *Bam* *Bam*

The sound of gunshots could be heard from a distance. That immediately made Zayn surprised and wary. He didn't know what the noise was, but he chose to stay away from the source of the sound.

Zayn and Angie just kept walking north via the flyover.
