Chereads / Healer Against Zombie Invasion / Chapter 33 - First Encounter with Humans

Chapter 33 - First Encounter with Humans

Rather than a long knife, Zayn refers to his current main weapon as a long sword. He can only use his greatsword as his secondary weapon and shield because of its large size and heavy enough to swing around.

"I thought this greatsword would be useful against tough zombies, but it actually slowed me down. Your suggestion is indeed the best for me." Zayn wiped his longsword with a cloth to clean it from the zombie's blood.

"!~" Angie knew well what was best for her human. She just nodded happily to accept the appreciation.

It was already dusk, and they had only gotten six half-litre water bottles. Zayn feels that is enough and invites Angie to return to their hideout. However, the sound of gunshots could be heard in the next block.

"This noise again? It was like an unusual little explosion. Do you want to find out the source?" Zayn raised his eyebrows and looked towards the source of the voice.

Angie also looked in the same direction and nodded slightly. She only felt a little curious about the origin of the small explosion.

Zayn pulled his greatsword off the ground and rushed towards where the voice came from.

"Damn, this path is supposed to be clean of zombies, but why are so many of them coming here?"

"Shoot the head, damn it! You're wasting bullets!"

"Damn, I know that! They just keep moving. Don't get hurt by that filthy creature, my comrades!"

"Damn, they really are undead, huh. They can still move even though they only have half of their body left."

"That's obviously stupid! Their heads are their only weakness!"

The group of people continued to retreat while shooting at the zombies surrounding them. It was supposed to be their secret hidden gang to come and go to their base, but somehow zombies came to this place to ambush them.

"Retreat, retreat! We are only fighting a futile fight! Save your bullets." Someone shouted and ran backwards, but he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

"That can't be, sir! We're surrounded from the front and the back." The fat man reloaded his rifle with a pale face.

"Shit, so break out or die here, huh. We don't have a lot of bullets, and close range combat is very risky."

"We hunt for food outside, but we are also being hunted by zombies as prey? Mommy, I want to come back alive. She must be feeling hungry by now."

Some people muttered in exasperation. They were in a narrow alley, and dozens of zombies surrounded them from both directions. There was no way out unless they could open one for them.

At that moment, two people were observing the events below from the top of the building. They felt a bit complicated because it was their first encounter with other humans.

"They are human. We have to help them. Are you going with me, Angie?" Zayn muttered and glanced at Angie. He still would go to help that group of people from zombies' encirclement even though Angie didn't want to help them.

Angie only answered with a nod. She then stood up and spread her arms slightly.

"Good." Zayn raised his greatsword and threw it at a crowd of zombies for a surprise attack. He then hugged Angie and grabbed a cable before plunging down.

*Bam!*

A heavy greatsword fell from above, splitting the two zombies in half with sheer force. The surrounding zombies were taken aback by the sudden attack and looked up.

"Focus in one direction to make a way out! Follow me!" Zayn unsheathed his longsword and decapitated several zombies. He pulled his greatsword from the ground and opened a path for those people to follow.

"!" Angie slashed at several zombie heads that tried to ambush her human, creating a blooming blood effect. She protected Zayn's back with her daggers in an elegant and fast movement. Not the slightest stain, dirt, or blood could be splashed onto her body.

"Follow him! We will get out of this zombie siege alive!" A team leader called out and rushed to follow in their savior's footsteps.

"Uwwogh!" Everyone saw an opportunity and hope. They immediately rushed away from there.

"Ha!" Zayn decapitated another zombie's head and made his way out of the alley. He then beckoned everyone to follow him to the nearby safe place.

"Phew, you saved our lives, big bro. Really, you look like a hero." The team leader sighed and wiped his sweat. He looked at the zombies rushing out of the alley, then glanced at his savior.

"It's okay. It's not the right choice to choose such a narrow path." Zayn put his greatsword to the ground. He then checked on Angie's condition.

Angie moved so agile and fast in helping him open a path from the siege of zombies. Yet, there wasn't the slightest bit of blood on her, just a fair bit of dust.

As for him, well... He also didn't get bloodstained, except on his shoes, because he only slashed right and left to avoid zombie blood splashes.

"Wow, your sword is really fierce, big bro. Are you a survivor of this city?" Someone asked in awe.

"No, we came from next town. We are looking for a place to take shelter, but the situation is not favorable." Zayn shook his head.

"Yeah, zombies are everywhere. If you're looking for shelter, how about you join us to our temporary base? It would be very helpful to have a great fighter like you, and this big sis- wow..." The team leader tilted his body slightly to peek at the girl behind his savior. He was momentarily stunned when he realized how beautiful she was.

She was like a pure angel. A holy girl clean from the sin and filth of the world!

"Your base?" Zayn thought it was like a fortress to defend against zombies.

"Ahem, anyway, I'm Rico, and they're my comrades. We came from Harrisburg and were heading to New Jersey." Rico reached out his hand for a handshake.

"I'm Zayn. But, what's with your city? And why would you want to go to New Jersey? Was that a long journey?" Zayn accepted the handshake and tried to dig up some useful information.

"You didn't know? Hmm, that's a journey of roughly one hundred and sixty miles. We're halfway there now. However, we have to get out of here tomorrow morning. We took a shortcut and are currently pretty close to that damned city, after all. Welcome, Zayn. Let's head back to our temporary base and I'll tell you about New Jersey's base. Uhm, you're invited too, big sis." Rico rubbed his head awkwardly because the beautiful angel didn't even want to look at him, let alone talk.

"She is my girl, Angie. She is unable to speak and shy. She is not used to meeting strangers." Zayn pointed his thumb to his back while introducing the girl standing behind him.

"Angie, hmm. Really suits your angelic face. You have a wonderful girl, big bro." Rico patted Zayn's shoulder with a relaxed laugh.

Zayn then asked Angie to go to these people's base. She gave neither denial nor approval, but she would follow just because Zayn wanted to go there to dig up information.

Because of that, they all went as a group somewhere. Zayn asked a few questions to dig deeper into important information. Rico and everyone else happily answered all the questions.

A few moments later, they arrived at a log shed and entered a hidden room through a secret entrance.

The mentioned temporary base was a basement in the corner of the warehouse. Almost a hundred survivors were waiting for Rico's team to return.

"Thank goodness you came back safely, my son. I just had a bad feeling, and was really worried." A middle-aged woman came over and hugged her son.

"Well, I'm back, mommy. We might have become food for zombies if it wasn't for big bro's help." The chubby man hugged his mother back.

All the survivors then turned their attention to the charismatic masculine man with a greatsword.

"!!!" Angie felt uncomfortable with all the stares. She also felt a bit uneasy because there were too many humans.

An urge to do something was there, but Zayn came to her mind for consideration. She then just hid behind Zayn's back to escape all the stares.

"Hello. I'm Zayn. We happened to run into Rico's team while exploring for food and drink while looking for a nice shelter." Zayn raised his hand in greeting.

"Yeah, yeah, welcome to our temporary base, Zayn. Thanks for saving my son and his team from trouble." The middle-aged woman expressed her gratitude.

"Hey, Rico, did you manage to bring back the food and drink? We've fought like we agreed, but what about you? We have almost a hundred mouths to feed." An old man put a machete on his shoulder. A group of people then stood behind him.
