Chereads / Healer Against Zombie Invasion / Chapter 37 - Go to New Jersey Base

Chapter 37 - Go to New Jersey Base

After the dead were buried, Zayn went with Angie to leave the log warehouse to scout the surrounding areas and pick up some useful sharp weapons.

Everyone in the basement comprehended that, even though it was only half true. Zayn and Angie's primary goal was to stock up on cheese for Angie.

"Angie, we've packed twenty kilos of cheese. I think that's enough for the next month or two. You can't just eat cheese all that time, can you?" Zayn put the last of the cheese wraps in his backpack. It has become so fat now.

"!~" Angie just nodded with a smile. She was pretty satisfied with her supply of delicious food. It was her cheese, and she wouldn't share it with anyone, but Zayn was fine.

"Alright, the cheese is quite heavy to carry. However, now how do we carry these knives and swords now?" Zayn put on his backpack and stared at a bundle of sharp weapons.

It contained about thirty weapons, but the bundle looked big and heavy.

Angie suddenly tapped Zayn's shoulder from behind. She immediately pressed a yellow gem to his lips when he turned around.

"What is this? A candy?" Zayn was a bit surprised when Angie pressed a candy to his lips. He licked it, but it tasted a bit bitter. "Why does it taste bitter? Is this medicine?"

"..." Angie couldn't explain anything. She just pinched Zayn's cheek and immediately put that yellow gem into his mouth.

She then shoved the drinking water and forced Zayn to drink it.

"Ghak! Why are you being so pushy so suddenly, Angie? What medicine did you force me to take?" Zayn choked, but he swallowed the medicine along with the water.

"!~" Angie only replied by wrapping her arms around Zayn's neck, then rubbing her cheek to Zayn's. She was delighted because her human would become more potent with her soon.

"What's with your sudden behavior?" Zayn scratched his head. He ultimately couldn't understand what Angie was trying to say.

Even so, he didn't think Angie had any harmful intentions. If someone wanted to hurt him, Angie would be the last person on the list of suspicions.

Zayn put aside the mysterious medicine earlier because he didn't feel any harmful effects in his body. Maybe, it was just a supplement Angie found during their visit to the pharmacy before coming here?

Whatever it was, Zayn lifted the heavy load of weapons to the top floor, then used a trolley to carry the big bundle away. He relocked their secret hideout, of course.

Angie didn't want to help with the heavy luggage, but she took her part by protecting Zayn. She got rid of the zombies approaching at ease because only low-rank zombies roamed around randomly. No more scary zombies like last night.

"Boss, we're ready to go. But, wow. You brought quite a lot of luggage there." Tom waved his hand when he saw Zayn arrive at the log warehouse.

"Hm, these are the knives and swords we can use to eradicate zombies and evil humans. I also brought some medicine. How about everyone?" Zayn glanced left and right. He saw that everyone was ready to go but looked a bit gloomy.

"Well, as you can see. Last night was a tragedy and everyone was scared. However, we are ready to go now." Tom turned around and pointed his hand to what was clearly visible.

"Good. We're leaving now." Zayn nodded in understanding.

"Yo, boss. We were saved last night thanks to you. Our captain Rico is still alive, fortunately. Please sit in the front with me. We will lead the entourage up front in this armored truck." Someone tapped the truck next to him.

"Hmm, fine." Zayn looked at the truck in question. It was similar to the other two trucks, but only with the addition of a steel shield up front. Maybe, to protect the car from hitting the zombies blocking the road?

Zayn climbed into the co-pilot's seat to put his big backpack in the empty space behind the seat. Yet, he was surprised to find Rico lying there.

"Yo, Rico. Make some noise or something. I almost squashed you to death when I was about to put this heavy backpack in there." Zayn raised his hand to say hello.

"Uh, well... It's you, Zayn. My body is all sore, and I can't move much. Just put it in the corner, and I'll be fine." Rico muttered half-consciously. He pointed to the corner and went back to sleep.

"..." Zayn shrugged his shoulders and put his backpack in the corner. He also placed the big bundle of weapons there.

"Angie, come on up. We're leaving soon." Zayn extended his hand towards Angie.

"..." Angie felt a little doubtful. This big machine was scary and noisy, but Zayn was already inside. She then decided and got into the truck and sat beside Zayn.

"Err, you're Rick, right? It's just the four of us here? Did someone else get into the box truck?" Zayn looked in the rearview mirror and was people getting into the truck box.

"My name is Ricardo, but Rick sounds good too. That's fine for them. Inside there is just like a room with adequate ventilation." Rick gave a thumbs up, then changed gears. He slightly stepped on the gas pedal to signal everyone to hurry up and close the door tightly.

"Tom's here. Everyone's on board. We're ready to go." A sound came from a black object near the steering wheel.

"Rick here, we're leaving now." Rick pressed a button on the device before answering. He then drove his truck away.

"Wow, such a device is very helpful in communication. I thought it was a ghost voice earlier." Zayn laughed dryly.

"Haha, a device like this is the only one we can rely on for short-range communication. The telephone signal has completely disappeared, and only short-range radio waves remain." Rick laughed lightly.

"However, boss. You really are awesome. Captain Rico really doesn't turn into a zombie even though he's been exposed to the zombie virus. You're brilliant. Wait until the military or the government finds out. You're going to boom and become a famous and important person. They obviously want you to do further research to create the cure to save humanity from the zombie invasion!" Rick spread his arms as he conveyed his statement.

"Haha, let's just hope they don't let me down." Zayn shook his head. He might be able to take advantage of the opportunity to get facilities and resources. Still, he couldn't trust others to his invention formula just like that.

The sun was shining quite bright that day. Three trucks drove over the overpass, away from the edge of the danger zone and into Trenton territory. They took a detour to avoid City X, but their journey had been pretty safe.

"!!!" Zayn felt his body become hot and cold from within all of a sudden. Symptoms of a mysterious illness came for no apparent reason, and he felt cold chills.

He took the blanket and wrapped himself in it, but that didn't lessen the chill.

"What's wrong, boss? You're shivering in this scorching heat." Rick glanced sideways and was surprised.

"I don't know either, Rick. Maybe I have a fever?" Zayn also felt confused. He had been feeling well a few minutes ago, and this cold attack came so suddenly.

"You may need some rest. Get some sleep or take some fever medicine if you feel the need. We've had a pretty smooth ride too. I'll wake you up when I think it's necessary." Rick was worried. If the most reliable fighter got sick, it would not be good. Yet, he could only give advice.

"I think you're right. I'll sleep then." Zayn accepted the suggestion and took a comfortable position to sleep. He reclined his seat with Rick's help and then slept.

"???" Angie felt a bit surprised because Zayn's body became so cold. However, she loved it because she always felt hot every time she slept. She lay down and fell asleep while hugging Zayn.

"..." Zayn could feel a source of warmth clinging to him. He reflexively hugged Angie for comfort.

"This couple is really something..." Rick glanced to the side, slightly jealous of Zayn for having a gorgeous, caring girlfriend. Yet, he just scratched his head and focused on driving.
