"Wait, for real? You're also a scientist, young man? Have you tested it on real humans!?" The old scientist exclaimed loudly in surprise. His hands trembled slightly as he was about to ask for that vial from this young man.
"That's of course. I'm going to apply as a scientist here. I hope you still have a vacancy for the scientist position." Zayn pushed his precious anti-zombifying serum away from the old man's shaking hands.
The old scientist felt a little lost when the vial of anti-zombification serum moved away from his hand. Yet, he immediately cleared his throat and explained a little to the new recruit. "Oh, that's, of course. All the talented people are a great welcome! We'll even set up an exclusive laboratory room for you if your formula proves to be as effective as you claim. Is that right, Prime Minister Hendrix?"
"Yes, we will give you special privileges and great rewards if you are a talented scientist. However, your recruitment and discovery formula is something different. We need to test the effectiveness of your serum first." Hendrix gulped his saliva.
He didn't expect that the one who was talking with him the last few minutes was a scientist who came up with a shocking finding... That was the product they needed in the zombie era, like now!
"Then let's go to the frontline to test it. I want to have my exclusive lab soon to do some follow-up research." Zayn raised his hand and invited everyone to go with him.
"Eh, what? You want to test that by person? We can send some soldiers to meet the zombie extermination squad on duty. We can find one or two soldiers who might be injured by zombies." Hendrix was surprised by Zayn's enthusiasm.
"It's okay. Who will come with me? We have two squads of elite soldiers here and that will be fine, right?" Zayn looked back.
"Holy shit. You are the bravest scientist I've ever met. Ordinary scientists wouldn't dare to go out to meet the real zombies outside. We're just testing only the one caught in a testing isolation room like this. Alright, I'll go with you to see the fruits of your labor. Hendrix, please send us one of your best squads." The old scientist slapped his thigh with renewed passion. He was fond of a passionate, talented young spirit.
"Alright, the third zombie extermination squad will go with you for field testing." Hendrix used his phone to contact the captain of squad three in question.
"What, the third squad will be sent just for this test?" Jacob gasped.
"Our precious scientists go with our future scientists. They are too valuable." Hendrix went out of the lab with him, following Zayn and the others.
"Young man, I'm Professor Tyler Lloyd. I'd like to hear more about you. What's your name?" Professor Tyler held out his hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you Professor Tyler. I am Zayn. It is an honor for me to exchange thoughts and ideas with a genius scientist like you. She is Angie, my best assistant." Zayn shook Tyler's hand and introduced himself.
"Hehe, you have a beautiful assistant. I assume she is a talented assistant. Let's go. We will look for a subject infected with the zombie virus. If there is none around here, we will go to the city." Professor Tyler takes Zayn out of the building.
"Professor, are you going out? It's very dangerous to go to a city full of zombies." A young man with big round glasses came running after his boss.
"Oh, it's you, Quinn. We just need to find survivors infected with the zombie virus around the base. Otherwise, we'll go to city with the third squad. Nothing dangerous. Sometimes we take risks to see new breakthroughs and miracles." Tyler raised his hand to his assistant.
"But-" Quinn wanted to say a few other things. Yet, Professor Tyler ignored him and continued walking out of the laboratory. He could only stare at the newcomer's back with a strange glint in his eyes.
A group of elite soldiers in full armor were waiting outside the building. They seemed ready to kill some powerful zombies.
"We have come at your request, prime minister." A soldier clad in black protective, military armor came over and gave a salute.
"Good. Captain Archibald, please escort Professor Tyler and young scientist Zayn to conduct field experiments.
They need a test subject infected with the zombie virus. Find one if it's around, or go into the city to find one. You can also make one if you need to." Hendrix returned the military salute before delivering his order.
"Affirmative. However, there aren't any humans infected with the zombie virus around. We're going to the city to catch up with the tenth and sixteenth squads." Captain Archibald nodded in understanding.
"Do it." Hendrix nodded slightly.
"Roger." Captain Archibald immediately got into his jeep and gestured for everyone to enter their vehicles.
"I need to go. You can wait here until I get back. It won't be long." Zayn raised his hand in farewell to Rico and co.
"Haha, we'll wait around then." Rico laughed lightly.
Professor Tyler got into the jeep in the backseat with Zayn and Angie. After that, the third squad left the base area.
On the way to the red zone area, Professor Tyler talked about medical science to Zayn. They exchange ideas and ideas about several things.
Professor Tyler tested Zayn's knowledge and insight. At the same time, Zayn only tried to extract information and learn a few things from the professor.
"I see, you are a young doctor and scientist who thrives in a dangerous zone. You are brilliant even though you don't have much experience, but I can see you can grow to be a genius like me, hahaha!" Professor Tyler burst out laughing.
"Yes, yes. You can understand me more than I do. As expected of a genius professor." Zayn nodded in agreement and complimented the professor again. He doesn't know why but this old professor is eccentric and loves to be praised.
"..." Angie rolled her eyes. She knew that Zayn only played along, but she didn't expect Zayn to converse with this annoying old man for so long.
Angie tugged the hem of Zayn's sleeve and looked into his eyes. She wanted to know what he got from the conversation just now.
"Everything is good." Zayn patted Angie's hand and nodded.
Seeing that, Angie just nodded slightly.
A few minutes later, they arrived at a northern urban area. A group of people in black army uniforms were fighting against a swarm of fire ants.
The fire ants looked ordinary but were the size of an adult's fist. They numbered in the thousands and kept coming out of the waterhole by the side of the road.
The tenth squad struggled to eradicate the large fire ants storming onto the streets. They used various insect-repellent weapons and even burned those ants with lots of fire.
"Burn them out! Spray them with acute pesticide poisoning! Kill them out! Hanz, get the flamethrower!" The captain shouted loudly to his subordinates.
A soldier threw away his empty pesticide thrower and then checked their stockpile of firearms, but it was empty. He then shouted as he ran to a tank in the back row. "We don't have any more flamethrowers in stock, sir. However, we do have a flame panzer!"
"Burn those ants with the flamepanzer!" The captain shouted back loudly.
"Sir, there's a swarm of zombies coming from the north!"
Yet, a long-legged zombie suddenly came from above and knocked down a soldier. It instantly bit the soldier's shoulder. "Argh!"
"Long-legged zombies!? Beware of attacks from above!" The captain stared in shock and pulled out his rifle. He wielded two weapons in both hands, the one to burn the ants and the other to shoot the long-legged zombies from above.
*Vroom!*
*Bang, bang, bang!*
An entourage of heavyweight vehicles came over and shot the zombies that jumped from the top of the building.
"Eradicate them out, boys. Leave none of the zombies and monsters alive." Captain Archibald gave his orders.
The third squad soon joined the battle to help the tenth squad eradicate the long-legged zombies and a swarm of large fire ants.
