Chereads / Healer Against Zombie Invasion / Chapter 40 - Come to Base as the Valuable Forces

Chapter 40 - Come to Base as the Valuable Forces

The zombified bear was nearly twice its average size, but it was equipped with thick, hard and explosion-proof skin. The monster aimed to pounce on the heads of the soldiers so that its prey could die instantly.

"Retreat!" The captain climbed into his jeep bag and aimed his anti-tank rifle at the monster.

*Bam* *Bam* *Bam*

A barrage of high-penetrating fire was aimed at the monster to give the surrounding soldiers time to retreat.

"Grr!" The bear monster moved sideways and climbed up the building's wall using its large claws to dodge.

"Hey!" One of the soldiers fired his rocket grenade launcher in fear and panic at the bear monster on the wall of the building.

*Boom!*

The rocket exploded but did not hit the target. A large hole opened in the wall, and the bear monster entered.

"Man, your accuracy is terrible. You have good explosive weapons, but you have a serious skill issue. At least make that monster head explode and you'll be a hero." Zayn walked over and made his comment.

"Huh? Wait, who are you? Where did you come from and what are you doing here?" The captain was surprised to notice a group of people approaching from behind.

"We were trying to find a safe place to take shelter and happened to hear fighting here. Oh, we're from Trenton and just got here. Give me that cool explosive weapon. I'll help you guys beat that monster." Zayn extended his hand to the scared soldier.

"..." The scared soldier stared at his captain.

"What can a civilian like you do? If you want to fight and are ready to die, then don't regret your choice. Give him the rocket launcher." The captain gave his confirmation.

"Captain, the zombie bear is out with debris! Watch out!" A soldier called out to warn.

The bear monster came close to the big hole in the wall and threw a lump of debris at the ani-tank car.

"!?" The captain gasped and immediately jumped down from his jeep.

*Bam!*

The considerable debris hit the jeep and flattened it with the road.

"That monster is aiming for our anti-tank rifle!?" The captain exclaimed in surprise.

"Roar!" The bear monster roared loudly. It jumped down from the third floor and landed on the road with a thud.

The most dangerous threat had been destroyed, and now it could hunt down the remaining humans one by one. Yet, it suddenly realized another kind of threat.

It was like a defiant aura of superiority, and the feeling was very uncomfortable to feel. The bear monster glanced at a particular long blonde golden-haired girl and stared into her bright golden feline eyes. It was indeed a formidable and intimidating aura.

The bear monster was annoyed to be challenged and belittled by a human. Therefore, it immediately targeted that human girl to pounce on.

"Roar!" The bear monster pounced towards Angie.

"Next time, don't open your vunureble mouth too wide, big one." Zayn pulled the trigger of the rocker grenade launcher right at the monster's bear mouth.

*Boom!*

The grenade exploded inside the bear monster's mouth, shattering its skull and burning its brain to mush. The troublesome tough skin couldn't protect the bear monster when the damage came from within.

"Phew, we did it! Rico's technique is effective enough to defeat a troublesome monster like this. This cool weapon is also incredibly powerful. It's also very easy to use. I can use it with just one look." Zayn wiped his sweat.

"Yo, boss. Please check the people behind you before shooting with the RPG-7. We'll almost be blown away if we're too late to dodge." Rick voiced his protest.

"Oh, is it like that? My apologies, I saw those soldiers didn't even look back before firing, so I think that's the right way." Zayn scratched his head. He invited Angie to stay away from the headless zombie bear's body.

"That's because they're trained soldiers. It's a general rule not to stand behind the one with a rocket propelled grenade." Rico rolled his eyes.

"Phew, thank you for your participation in our monster elimination operation, random civilian. I am Steven, Captain of the fifteenth zombie extermination squad. I can see that you are quite experienced in dealing with zombies." Captain Steven came closer and glanced at the swords and knives carried by the civilians.

"That's of course. Otherwise, we might have become food for the zombies. We have to know how to kill them and survive. Anyway, did you come from a New Jersey underground city base?" Tom cleared his throat and explained the situation as if he was a veteran.

"Yeah, we're from there. Could it be that you came from Trenton all the way here to come to the underground city base?" Captain Steven could guess the purpose of this group of people.

"Precisely! However, we got lost when we entered New Jersey because we don't know the location of the underground city base. Can you take us there?" Rick gave a thumbs up.

"That's fine with us. However, are you willing to fight zombies for everyone in the base? Or, are you just hoping to find shelter?" Captain Steven didn't mind, but he wanted to recruit these random experienced civilians to join his squad. He recently lost six members in this complex operation and had to find new ones.

"Is there a difference in treatment?" Zayn raised his eyebrows.

"It's obvious. Skilled people such as soldiers, fighters, scientists, doctors, and so on will be valued more valuable than just random civilians without special skills.

The higher-ups will give special privileges and treatment to those values for a broader purpose." Captain Steven raised his hand in an invitation. "So, how? You've made it here from Trenton, and it's not an easy feat for the civilians. You can save a lot of people with us."

"So, how?" Zayn looked back. He didn't know what to say because he couldn't represent everyone for this sudden invitation.

"Hmm, that actually sounds good, boss. We'll follow your decision. Isn't that right, everyone?" Rick looked at everyone behind him and received everyone's approval.

"It seems like everyone is willing, but after looking at the terms and conditions. We don't even know much about the underground city base yet." Zayn rubbed his head as he replied to the captain.

"Good, we're taking you to base and I want to hear your definitive answer after seeing our base. I hope you join us in the fifteenth squad, remember." Captain Steven gestured to his subordinate to burn the dead bodies.

After that, everyone left the vicinity in three cars.

"Why did you burn the dead bodies?" Zayn looked back.

"We can't possibly bring them to base. By burning the dead, the surrounding zombies won't swarm there. Zombies will never eat burnt meat. Let the dead bodies rot into bones." Captain Steven sighed and looked back too. He found it hard to lose valuable subordinates. His quad was crippled because of this loss.

"Hmm?" Captain Steven just realized the beautiful girl next to Zayn. She possessed a gorgeous face, clean body, smooth white skin, long shiny golden hair, and a sexy body.

He couldn't believe this group of civilians could take care of a high-class girl like this all the way here. Either this group was strong enough to protect her, or they just got lucky.

However, it was likely the former since this group of civilians seemed to be trained sworders. These people were even able to bring a disabled friend here safely. This gorgeous girl was clingy to this group boss. A vixen who sold her beauty to the strong.

Captain Steven already hated this golden-haired beauty just because of that assumption. He never had a good experience with girls. The more beautiful a girl was, the more troublesome she was.

"Hey, Captain Steven. What kind of treatment will the government and military give to soldiers, fighters, scientists, or doctors? How are the ordinary citizens there? Do the higher-ups only treat them as burdens?" Rico raised his hand and asked.

"Hm, Sid, please tell them the situation for me." Captain Steven glanced at his men next to him.

"Affirmative." Sid then explained the situation at their underground city base. Still, the information was sprinkled with spices to convince these swordsmen to join their squad.
