Madison wasn't thinking straight as she made her way to the royal's kitchen.
What was kontas problem? Once he was all sexy and flirting and another time he was all commando.
He should learn to stick with one facial expression and stop confusing Madison and making her feel like she did something wrong.
"Wow, Madison, watch where you are going," Hezra said, holding her on her shoulders, so she won't bump into him. His voice sounded quite distanced for him to be holding her.
But Madison felt safe with the person holding her, and not caring whether she would be punished or not, she let her head fall on the person holding her chest.
"I want to kill that so-called master of mine! Can you imagine that he asked me to bring his food, that isn't the annoying part, he said I must test it before bringing it to him? Did he think I might poison him"
"Me too. Sometimes I also feel like killing him" the person holding her said.
Madison didn't recognize that voice. It wasn't Hezra's voice that she was sure of.
Lifting her head immediately, she gasped when she saw the person holding her.
It was no other person than the second prince, prince Nazim. And he was not the only one there, all the whole prince excluding Kontas with a pretty skinny lady was there. They were all watching her like she just grew two heads.
"Hezra, Tez, why didn't you tell me that she was such a smart mouth?" Prince khron asked with a smile on his face.
Stepping back a little, Madison awkwardly bows. She was so embarrassed at herself.
"Wow, so this is Kontas slave?" the lady asked no one particularly.
Madison's head was still bent until Hezra came before her and decided to introduce her to his brothers.
"Madison, meet my elder brother khron. And that's his wife, Basak. Brother meet Kontas slave, Madison" he introduced like she was an exceptional person.
" It's nice to see you, Madison. You don't know how long I have wanted to see you" Basak, khron's wife, grinned. Madison wasn't expecting the kind of welcome got from Basak. She was taken aback by her action.
" It's also pleasant to see you too" Madison replied. And she didn't lie, she was happy to see her.
" You have already met Tez, and he is Nazim my second brother" he grinned pointing at the guy who was still standing before her.
Madison awkwardly bowed because she didn't know what to do. And he was still staring at her like her presence was annoying him.
" If you guys aren't hungry, then tell me instead of wasting my time here" Nazim snarled.
Guess she was right.
" Don't mind him, Madison, he doesn't like anyone. Including me" Basak grinned which gained her a snarl.
Ignoring them totally, Nazim walked away, but not after he has glared out the remaining life Madison had left. Well, guess she has got herself another enemy.
" Well, this was interesting. We will also take our leave now" khron said as he and his wife went in the same direction Nazim took off without even looking back.
What was she expecting from them anyway?
"Don't mind what Nazim said, he had always been an ass" Tez encouraged before he left too.
It seemed like the more Madison tries to belong, the harder it becomes. Should she just choose death? No, she still wants to live.
" Do you want me to escort you to the kitchen?" Hezra asked, bringing her out of her thoughts.
"No, thanks"
"Do not hate my brother Kontas too much, he might look like a monster on the outside, but he is broken"Hezra said with so many emotions.
Madison didn't understand, how can someone with such evil facial expressions like Kontas be broken?
" What is Kontas's story?"
"It's not my story to tell Madison, but all you should know is that he is lonely, even though he doesn't show it". Now he is making her curious.
"What about his spirit beast?"
"I have never really seen his spirit beast before"
"What!" He can't be serious, right? It has been almost a week that she has been in Begtuok, and she has noticed how close the gods were with their spirit beast.
"Am I saying the truth. But I have heard from the elders that Kontas beast is not friendly, I heard that the beast hates people. I also heard it once burnt the whole of Begtuok. That's why it's hardly seen" he sighed.
Why is he only hearing things? She didn't even notice when he walked away, she was just consumed by her thoughts.
Madison suddenly had the urge to unravel him, she wanted to know his past.
She got back to kontas chamber to see him sleeping. That was her first time seeing him sleeping. He looked so vulnerable in that state. If a person didn't look at him very well, they might think he was taking a peaceful nap, and that's what Madison thought until she heard the soft whimper that came from him.
The sound was so low that she wondered how she heard it.
Madison went to the chair he was lying on to find him sweating all over. He looked like someone who was in pain.
" he might look like a monster on the outside, but he is broken"
What Hezra told her kept me thinking for a long time, that she wasn't even aware when she started tracing her hand across his face.
Madison suddenly felt the urge to take away what was causing him all this pain. He looked so disturbed and in a lot of pain.
She felt him move before he opened his eyes with a gasp. Madison was taken aback not by his sudden movement, but by the color of his eyes. It wasn't like the forest green she used to see, but it was red.
Something like purplish red, I can't be mistaken about that. And she was also sure that was the same color as a phoenix's eyes. What was he?
"What are you doing here?" He suddenly asked.
" Your food, I brought your food. And you don't have to worry about it being poisoned, I tasted it before bringing it"
Kontas didn't like the way he made her feel like he doesn't trust her with his life. Yes, he doesn't trust her, but he believes in his heart that she won't hurt him, which was weird because kontas trust no one.
He went to where the food was kept and started eating without a second thought, and that was so unlike him. He is always the type of person that is always weary of what he eats.
