"Hello...I'm Max " the young boy said half way through the class. He has been thinking of various ways to start a conversation since the beginning of class but all he could say was 'hello..I'm Max'
He was very disappointed in himself as this is the first time he found it difficult to communicate.
"Hi" Monica replied in a neutral tone. That was how the conversation he has been anticipating came to an end.
1st period...
2nd period...
3rd period...
4th period...
The fifth period and Max still couldn't concentrate.
"Okay so the group project should be done in group of two's" their science teacher said towards the end of the class.
Roughly 5 minutes after she spoke, Monica, Kiarra, Max, Cynthia and a boy named Jake were the only ones not in a group.
"Why aren't the five of you paired up yet...you could just form a group if your choices group is filled and the last one will be placed in a random group" the teacher said to Monica and the rest.
"Um...Monica can we be in a group" Max said as he approached Monica.
"Maxi...I was wondering if we could be in the same group" Kiarra approached in Max's direction in a hurry.
"You know how we always do our projects together,so I was wondering..." Kiarra said in a tone that stated Max was closest to her and will always be for as long as she remains.
Monica by now was already aware of the envy Kiarra had for her. She clearly understood her standing so she decided not to be the third wheel as she replied to Max
"If you are his partner, then I don't mind teaming with Jack." Monica said.
" I'm sorry Kiarra but I want to be Monica's partner, after all she is new so she needs a stable support".
Max immediately cut in when he saw Monica backing away. He then notified the teacher and she was in full support of his choice because she knew Max was capable.
At the end, Monica and Max were paired while Kiarra and Jack were later paired with Cynthia as the final group.
'Ding ding ding'
"So you all have two weeks to prepare your projects before submission, do your best and try not to disappointment me" the teacher said as they all went out for lunch.
"If don't mind let me show you to the cafeteria " Max proposed to Monica.
"Thank you" Monica replied as she was escorted out by Max.
"This girl has to leave..." Kiarra who has been silent ever since finally said through gritted teeth.
She then approached an accomplice of hers and gave some instructions before heading over to the cafeteria for a good show.
Who doesn't know who Kiarra is. The rich and arrogant heiress, the daughter of the CEO of Henry Corporation and the major contributor of the school.
She has always been treated as a princess her whole life. All her peers and seniors and even teachers don't dare act irresponsible when dealing with her.
So who does Monica think she is to come take something that belongs to her, in her territory at that. She certainly won't let her off.
At the cafeteria...
Monica took a seat while Max went to get their lunch. She received some questioning and ridicule gaze but she brushed them off and responded to some messages she received during class.
Max came to their table a few minutes later and set her lunch in front of her. While they were eating, Max couldn't help the awkward atmosphere so he tried to start a conversation.
"So..."
"Am I scary" Monica suddenly interrupted him with a pained look on her face.
"No its just that...um...I really don't know why I'm so short of words" Max said feeling a little nervous.
"Its normal...I can relate " Monica said with a beautiful smile that left Max in a daze.
"You...you look really beautiful today" Max said with a red face.
"Thank you..." Monica replied with red cheeks.
"So can I have you phone number...I mean to get in touch for the project " Max said the last part of his sentence in a hurry afraid she would misunderstand him.
"Sure...but you don't have to be so nervous when talking to me, you make me feel like I'm scary or something " Monica said as they exchanged contacts.
